I got a baby.
And I bought myself a new ring with my middle class welfare (aka the baby bonus)![]()
Not sure if this is the right spot for this post....
"Push" Gifts. Did anyone receive one? What was it? If you didnt were you upset?
Also, did you get DH/DP etc one? I am thinking of getting DH one...and thinking of jewellery for him. Any suggestions??

I called mine a push present jokingly with DD1, but it was more a belated mothers day present. DD1 was born on 20th of May so I just missed out and I had told DH that if she came before there was a little swarovski rocking horse I loved. I said I would happily wait till next year for it when DD1 had not arrived before mothers day. He went and bought it and gave it to me the day after DD1 was born.
DD2 I wanted something to mark her birth too so we went shopping after she was born and we bought a gold dragonfly with purple stone pandent for my necklace.
Dd1 I was single - bought myself a ring. Dd2 I'm now married and got a 18carat solid gold bracelet![]()
Never heard of it
It is a present for pushing your baby out, for me a tongue in check thing. I first heard about it from reading trashy magazines.
Nothing for either of them, i didn't even get flowers from DP.
I don't mind at all really, i mean the birth is about he baby and meeting the new baby to me, the presents are for bub and mum sometimes gets flowers (i did get flowers off friends etc).
Never really heard of a push present though... hell after DD1 DP owes me a huge present i think![]()
Hadn't heard of it so nope lol.
Did anyone receive one? What was it? No If you didnt were you upset? Not in the slightest. I had a baby
Also, did you get DH/DP etc one? No. DS did give him the gift of meconium nappies though.
I am thinking of getting DH one...and thinking of jewellery for him. Any suggestions?? I personally wouldn't bother. I don't really like jewellery on men apart from wedding rings either sorry. If he likes those dog tag style necklaces though, you could get one made with your baby's name & dob on it.

Yes! A beautiful diamond and sapphire ring. With next bub I want diamond earrings. DH is fine with that! Yay!!
Did anyone receive one? What was it? No If you didnt were you upset? I have never heard of it, but I guess you could say the baby is the gift
Also, did you get DH/DP etc one? He can share the baby with me, it is a joint pressent![]()
I am thinking of getting DH one...and thinking of jewellery for him. Any suggestions?? I like Rowellen's suggestion, but if I was going to choose anything for my DH I would pay for a tattoo he wants to get of Bubba's name and DOB. I will probably do this for his fathers day pressie instead though.
When DD1 was born my DH gave me a beautiful gold and diamond pendant he had designed and had made for me in the shape of a mother, father and child which resembled the way a lot of sculpture from Africa is done. Symbolised obviously our new family of 3, but also was that style because DH and my first holiday together had been to Africa.
DD2 nothing except for a beautiful healthy baby. Didn't expect anything (was shocked at my present when DD1 was born) and was not in the least upset about not having anything.
Don't expect anything this time either.
I honestly don't see why you should get something - for me the whole idea of a healthy baby in my arms is the best present. Just more commercialism gone nuts IMO. I have joked to DH though that if he feels the need to buy me a push present this time no jewellery for me - I would much prefer a stokke and a thermomix.
Personally I find the whole concept a bit tacky and distasteful.
Why on earth would you expect to be given a material reward for bringing a little soul into the world.
Carrying a child and giving birth isn't a job which requires reward or payment. It is a blessing and a privilege. Surely it is reward enough in itself.
I think it is more a celebrity inspired expectation. I know for me my gifts were not a reward, they were something I wanted as a celebration of both my daughters joining my family. Yes having my babies was the reward and everytime I look at them I am reminded of this, when I look at the 'gifts' it is just another reminder for me.
Wasn't intending to offend anyone by asking. I was just curious because my SIL got them both times from my Brother, My Mum had never heard of the idea.
I am not personally fussed either way if he was to give me one, but i would like to give him a gift as a thank you for all he has done to help out and his support for me. I think its a special occasion for him and sometimes the dad's get forgotten.
I feel any gift given out of obligation is a load of rubbish. But its nice to hear how everyone is different![]()
If a DH wants to give his wife something for bringing his child into the world i think thats nice too.
I also have to say I'm slightly jealous of all these spunky gifts
DH is getting me an eternity ring, but I think that's different. He has always planned on getting one for me and since he missed the first wedding anniversary, which is the traditional time to give an eternity ring, he's going to wait until we have stopped having kids, which is the other traditional time I think. Don't think that really counts..? Dunno.
The eternity ring is either first anniversary or first baby. This being that in the 'old' days, most had a baby in their first year of marriage and it was a guess/race as to which came firstThat's my understanding.
I have never heard of a push gift. No gifts exchanged at the birth of our babies, didn't bother me one bit.
