I am sure the Pram topic has been done to death, but i just need some real advice, as its alot of money to spend! We have been researching prams and have gone to have a look and are torn between the steelcraft strider plus and the baby valco rebel Q...
We liked how the seat is reversable so i can see bubs while walking. the valco seemed alot lighter compared to the strider, and the strider was a bit wider. but the strider also had really good suspension and more room below.. If any of you ladies can shed some light, or give me some other options for prams would be much appreciated.
We had the same dilemma when looking at prams, and ended up buying the Strider...
I wanted a pram with pump up wheels that could take two bubs for when we expanded our family. Hubby was dead keen on the facing us option plus he is tall and wanted a high pram.
I compromised on the pump uo wheels because the strider seemed to meet so many of our other criteria, most importantly the facing us option.....
Although I have not owned the Valco, I actually think that would've been the pram for us.
The strider is okay, but these are the things that drive me crazy:
-when you fold it up with the seat on, it scrapes the hub thingo above the front wheel (we contacted Britax about this and they suggested that we fold it as per the brochure, but I don't think that it is that easy to fold it like that);
- The wheels are hard plastic and we have some really rough footpaths around here.... it really jolted the baby around and I found she would never sleep over certain routes, so I ended doing a lot of walking on the smoother back roads around here ;
- we recenlty left the strider folded up for a while (while I have been using a stroller), and when we used it last weekend, it seems that the way it was folded has put a pressure point on the wheel. The wheel now has a flat spot on that section and the pram has a noticeable "bump" when walking due to this
- the strider is one big unit, hard to lift, and hard to get around confined spaces, and takes up a lot of room in the boot (yay for the stationwagon)...... but I haven't owned another pram so maybe a lot of them are like this????
Hope this helps......
Another pram to look at is the baby jogger city select - I love mine. Google it and check out all the seat configurations! It is not as wide as the strider but I think its comparable in weight, I'm really not too sure.
The downside to this pram is that everything is sold separately - second seat, bassinette, wind/rain/sun covers, snack tray etc.
The upsides are - able to have 1 or both kids facing in or out, can use a car capsule, huuuge basket underneath, easy to manouvere, smart looking pram, soo many other pluses I can't think of them. Definetely have a look, there are some great deals on eBay for new ones too!
I was looking are Rebel Q because the strider was too wide and heavy for me. But then I saw the Quinny buzz and fell in love ;D The upsides are the same as ubba82, and it has hydrolic lifts so you only have to one touch unfold. down sides is are it is pricey, however I only paid $499 for it because Baby Kingdom have a special on a package deal at the moment
I have the Strider plus & love it! It's so easy & versatile. I don't find it heavy at all and it's quick & easy to fold. Press a button, remove the seat, open a latch and use your foot to compact the base, too easy. I haven't had a problem yet with it being too wide and i can easily maneuver it, it's great. We got it because of the fact you can have two toddler seats. I don't like the prams that have a little seat that attaches on the front, toddlers can't sleep in them & they look like they would unbalance the pram. We also didn't like how alot of the prams seem flimsy & low to the ground like there is no support for babys back.
