Cost for NT Scan with blood test

My Doctor suggested to get an 12 week NT(Nuchal Translucency with blood test). We want to go for it and make sure every thing is ok with my Bub. The place where my OB referred is charging 390$ for this test. Is this price normal?

We stay in Sydney city and dont have medicare. Appreciate if any once can suggest a cheaper but good place to go on with the test. Thank you.

I paid over $300 but that was for a 3D scan. My understanding was that the 2D scans were less expensive.
In QLD we have QDI, not sure what the equivalent is in Sydney. Hopefully someone can help you with a specific location.

That is expensive. I think my scan was about $125 and I got back $70 from medicare and my blood test was $90.

Cant suggest much as im no where near sydney but good luck!

my nt scan was $80 and i got $40 or something back from medicare.. mine was done at the local hospital.
my blood test was free (at the local pathology) but i got the bill for the lab work after (for the combined screening).. and that was $100 odd and i got some money back from medicare for that too.

EDIT: whoops i noticed you dont have medicare... can i ask why? its seriously saved my life!!

We made sure we got referred to a bulk billing imaging centre, we didn't pay anything, in fact we haven't payed for any scans or tests at all

I know you aren't covered by medicare so bulk billing places and cheap local hossies are out, but I would pop into a Medicare Office and ask them what the listed price for the tests are, then you can get an idea of whether you are being ripped off or not. From memory (and it is a seriously long time ago for me) that sounds about right, but it wouldn't hurt to find out the true cost so you can weigh it up.

i have never paid for blood tests or ultrasounds in my life & then all of a sudden got a bill for this same blood test.. was $100 and i only got $40 back from medicare... yet half the people i know didnt pay anything and they have working partners or are working themselves! makes no sence at all that some people have to pay and some dont!

I didnt have to open my wallet my whole pg. Went public hospy, had midwifery lead care but ended up having emergency c-section. Can't imagine what it must be like without medicare.
I had 10 week 'dating' scan, 12 week nuchal scan + bloods, 18 week scan for an asthma study I volunteered for, 20 week morphology scan, 32 week scan and 36 week scan (for asthma study).... and didnt pay anything!

I have never paid for a scan or blood test related to pregnancy either. Public health system and midwifery based care. We figure, we pay our taxes and a whole heap of them too so may aswell benefit

Only ever paid for a 3d/4d scan we had done with DD late pregnancy as it's a non-medical scan.

very weird! i went to a private hospital for all my scans (5 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 18 weeks and 20 weeks) and didnt pay for any of them, JUST the blood test, which i had done at a public hospital.. seems very weird to me! im sending them the medicare cheque and a photocopy of my centrelink card, and thats it!
