My birthdays 3 days before xmas, it has its ups and downs. I dont know but for some reason it felt like eternity waiting for my birthday to come round so my grandmother came up with the idea for me to have a half birthday with her in June. So as a child it was fine having a birthday so close to xmas, its trying to organise a night out now on my birthday that I find hard because everyones so busy organising xmas.

I'm due in December too. DH's first response when I told him the due date was "Gee, that late". I think he was hoping for a birthday pressie for his 30th in November LOL. But in the end, we'll just be grateful for a healthy bub. And the heat doesn't get too bad until late January, so I'm glad I won't be pregnant by then.
Oh its so annoying isn't it. DS was due on christmas eve but decided to make an appearance on the 10th of dec. First thing everyone said when i told them i was pregnant was poor child!!! Huh??? Then when he came early they all said well thats good, not so close to christmas. Grrr... My birthday is on the 10th of june so i like the idea of a half birthday with mummy so that his birthday and christmas aren't so close together but at the end of the day who cares when they are born, they wont know any different.
OMG, this one does my head in!! There is nothing wrong with a December baby!! I feel for you being questioned about this - it's madness!!
I'm sure it's frustrating for those born in December who have their birthday close to Xmas / New Years, during school holidays, etc but at the end of the day there is a beautiful baby being brought into the world so who cares what month it's born! Some women have a hard enough time falling pregnant that the EDD month is the furtherest thing from their mind!
Hold your head high hon just because you're pregnant and you can. ;)
Pffft! My first baby was born on December the 23rd and it's been great! When she was young her birthday parties were all well attended because we used birthday venues near large shopping centres. The parents all used to drop off their children to our party and go and do some last minute Christmas shopping. And now that she is older and more selective about who she invites she has found that less people get offended they they didn't get an invite because more people are on holidays and it doesn't "get around" as fast that there was a party (girls can be so gossipy etc) Plus there were a few years that money was tight and we couldn't afford a big party... and DD felt under less pressure to "keep up" with others in the party stakes because her birthday was in late December and kinda more "hidden".
And schooling??? Nah, like Liz said: nice and tidy to start school a few months after turning 5... what's the isue there?
I dont think it really matters what month your baby is born in.
I'm sure each month has its good and bad things. I was a June baby, and when my mum went to enrol me in school when I was 4.5, the school said you have to be 5 by the end of May, and so they didnt want to take me and told my mum to come back next year. But, Mum made a special application and they took me. Apparently I was a clever kid and preschool couldnt see any reason for me to stay back a whole nother year.
I think its just because December is one of those crazy months where so much happens and people always reckin it would suck to have your birthday on Christmas day.. but really, what is more important? A healthy baby or the birthday being in a certain month? I honestly woldnt care if I had a baby due on Christmas or a few days later. My sister has her birthday a few days before Christmas and she hates it. But she is a bit of an attention seeker so maybe thats why (her birthday seems to just get stuck in the middle of Xmas craziness some years).
Claire was born in March which I think is a fab month. The only annoyance so far has been trying to get her into preschool for next year when she will be turning 3. The preschool year start in January, children have to be 3 by the time they start, so because she is 3 just after it starts, she probably wont get in fo next year unless other children drop out of the centre. But thats no big deal, I cant change that.
Seriously, dont worry about it. You'll have a beautiful baby so who cares about the birthdate?

i dont acre, it was meant to be, tehy will have a great birthday and an even greater x mass.
and loving teh diea of puting toys and stuff on teh xmass lay buy we do that with DS and he is in march lol
December babies also are either Sagitarrius (very friendly/popular people) or Capricorn (very good students who tend to have good career prospects) so what's there to complain about astrologically????
I got all those comments when I announced our pregnancy with DD2. I could care less what month I have a baby due, as they are all precious. Loren has only had birthday so far and I haven't had any issues yet!!! Her sister's birthday is in November so DH and I decided to treat the girls to a mid year outing when they are older!!!
BTW - If family/friends ask what to get my girls as gifts I request buying them things that are 6months too old for them. I them put the gifts away and bring them out when they are ready to play with them:)

How sad for you that your family didn't congratulate you. There is always something that people can find negatives in isn't there. When i was pregnant with dd3 , i was so sick of people saying that i bet i wished i was having a boy. (we knew she was a girl) I hadn't even given birth yet and people were asking if we would try again for a boy. (makes me angry just thinking of it again!!)
I think you should get a shirt printed saying that you're having a December baby and you're proud of it!!

It is a bit of a PITA with presents(only 2days between xmas and bday). Ive found some of the family(DF's side) only buy for xmas and skip on the bday present yet my other child gets a bday and xmas gift so thats abit unfair.
We've never had a bday party with xmas and time being difficult with everyone having their xmas parties etc. Going to change that this year by having one late november/early december.
As far as schooling the school year is based on July - June birthdays. i would have started the following year anyway(if it didnt change to the above) as i went to school with a girl born in december and she couldnt go into high school(year 8) because her bday was after the school year finished. It was pretty hard for her having to stay back and repeat year 7.
We have also done a Xmas in july for our kids by collecting money in a money tin each through out the year. In the July toy sales they get to open their tins and buy whatever they like. Dont know if we'll continue with that now i have one due in july or not.
Phooey on them. I have a beautiful december baby. School was no issue - she started when she was 5. Just like I did as a January baby. Xmas is no issue - get her presents in the same layby we put on for xmas. The only thing we always make sure is it has birthday wrapping and there is a birthday cake. Just so everyone establishes the difference. Yes - xmas is a week away - but this is LYTAS DAY! No one in the family does the birthday/xmas present convenience. So I don't see it as an issue.
Besides - January is hotter than December! I had the next baby at the end of January and wanted him out weeks earlier it was so hot and sticky.
The only thing we make sure of is that when travelling to QLD for xmas - it is done before or after her bday. We once did the trip on her birthday because my bestie was over for 2 weeks - and the second was to be spent in QLD, which meant travelling on Lytas birthday. She didn't mind so much but I found having her unwrap her presents in the car on the road wasn't my idea of a special day. Mummy already has her own traumas to deal with on that date - and we have had some birthdays that are forever tainted by badness. She will be allowed to enjoy her birthday for as long as I can ensure it.

Anila you're in brissy too, which means the bub will be one of the eldest in their class at school. (now that we've got prep!) Babies born in the beginning half of the year will be the youngest (which means they get their license last, their 18th last, their birthdays last etc etc)
As far as i'm concerned, a december baby is great timing!
My DD is the end of November - and i'm excited for her for these reasons (she'll always be one of the first). My birthday is in september and growing up i was ALWAYS last at everything, it was VERY annoying and i hated it soo much.
Next bub is due late nov too - totally pumped! :p

How ridiculous! A beautiful baby is coming into the world - who care's when it comes! Elly was born in December and it's a great time of year weather wise to have a baby - you don't have to carry in the hot, hot, hot months, and you don't have to have a newborn in the freezing cold.
Can't say I really got those comments much anyway, except from people who don't know us - we don't celebrate Xmas and Birthdays for religious reasons so when I was a kid we had our family days, kids parties and present days at various times of the year anyway without having to worry about that sort of thing and we'll do the same for our kids.

I actually have a few tears, i had a bit of a scare this afternoon, i had started spotting a little, and although it has stopped now, it made me appreaciate my december baby even more, and who cares what other people in my life think about december babies, i am so grateful to be having one!
this is the only reason i think a lot of people have negativity about December babies - the laziness of OTHER people in making sure the birthday is celebrated seperately! it annoys me when i hear people saying "oh, we bought something a little bit bigger for both birthday and Christmas" - as a younger child, i find this appalling cos they DO remember that their siblings got treated special and i'm sure they'd rather have two smaller gifts... i also know of people who do the same with birthdays close to Easter (or for people who are mothers and have birthdays near mothers day!) - it does't take much to make a big deal of the individual on the day of their birthday!:

i have a friend who has twins that are now at school - to make sure their birthday was celebrated, they used to have a party late november - kinda an end of year get together for their birthday before everyone got too busy. the twins always had a family thing ON their birthday, but their friends had a party with them late November or early December. their bro had his birthday in Sept, sis in November (early) so they made the big deal of it - it's not like the kids owuld forget how spesh their siblings birthdays were.
the whole "year til their birthday comes around" thing is such a crock - we ALL wait. yes, some of us get a middle year celebration - but we're not on school holidays (mostly), we're not having lots of extra time with family - pfft! i think people need to take a good long look at themselves - every baby is precious, they arrive when they arrive - and if people don't want to have THEIR baby in December - well, keep your knees together in April!
