MIL made me a salad last night (which by the way was delicious ) and afterwoods mentioned that it was made from hydroponic lettuce (you know, the one with the roots still attached.) She had washed it when she bought it, but had then put it back in the same plastic bag she bought it in - and didnt rewash before serving it to me.... If I hadnt of known, I wouldnt be worried - but now that I know.....
SHould I be worried about exposure to listeria??
Thanks in advance.... I swear I am not a nutcase - this eating business is just doing my head in!! *chants to herself* "6 weeks to go, 6 weeks to go"....
I hear ya...I worry about that too....but I think you'll be fine. Lysteria is mainly on soft cheeses and meats.....I think you would have to be one very very very unlucky person to get lysteria from salad. Especially if it was washed.
Noodle, i wouldn't be too worried. Lysteria can form on the lettuce but as you mentioned, it was previously washed. I know what you mean about the food thing but I am sure all will be well. In regards to the roots still being attached, I am sure that most of the dirt on those would have been washed off prior to shipping it to the shop. To be honest, there are so many 'rules' that if we looked at everything we wouldn't eat anything and that would be bad too! Good luck for the next 6 weeks.
i don't think there is any reason for worry!!
i am very relaxed about all of the food "rules". i haven't been eating cold meats, or drinking alcohol, but that's about it.
i try to eat fresh where possible, but as long as you're sensible and don't eat at any dodgy lunchbars, then your chances of getting food poisoning are VERY VERY low, and not worth your while worrying about!! there are plenty of better things to spend your thoughts on - especially with only 6 weeks to go - i'm jealous - i've still got 7 months!!! aaaggghhh!!!
