    Second trimester ultrasound- a confusion

    Hello

I hope I get my confusion solved regarding my 19th week ultrasound.
At the moment I am 14 weeks pregnant. yesterday my GP gave me referral for 19th week ultrasound.
I read on several pregnancy forums it should be combined blood screening.
My GP told me Midwife would guide me when I rang my Mid wife she said you have already doneblood screening at 10th week you don't need at 15th week.
does this mean its ok to have 19th week ultrasound without blood screening?

    I appreciate your advice.
    Thanks Nim

    Hi Nim

You do not need bloods talen for your 19 weeks scan. The scan is to check the baby's development - they will check fingers and toes, length of limbs, head circumference, etc.

    Hope this helps!

19wk scan is a normal routine scan not combined with blood screening which is done earlier in the prengnancy.

There is second trimester screening that is done from a blood test: it gives you your risk figure for T21, T13/18 and neural tube defects (like spina bifida). The blood is collected between 15 and 18 weeks of pregnancy.

Most people in Australia are now having screening during first trimester (blood test and ultrasound), and therefore don't need screening at 2nd trimester.

You only have one lot of screening using blood test, either 1st or 2nd trimester screening but not both.

The 20 week ultrasound (that can be done from the 19th week) looks at the bub's organs and limbs and checks that everything looks ok.

Can you remember having a blood test at around 10 weeks, and an ultrasound at 12 weeks? Were you given the results of screening?

    Hi Kate07
yes I did my blood test exact at 10th week and ultrasound at 12th week and got the low risk results.i exactly don't remember the place tested my blood.
After reading all post I am relieved there is not need for 15th work blood work.
