    3rd centile??

    Hey,

Was looking back at my last ultrasound (4 days before bubby was born) and it says that she was on the 3rd centile.

    What does that mean, exactly?

    DD did have IUGR.

    Thanks!

It means that if all the babies of that age/gestation were lined up, your bub was in the smallest 3%. So if there was 100 babies, yours would be 3rd smallest.

    Cool, thanks!

She was pretty tiny. 34+1 weeks and 1698 grams.

    :yeahthat:
And IUGR bubs are at the 10%ile or less Or where there is significant inconsistent growth across the three measurements, BPD, HC and Femur Length.

She was on the 9th for a long time. Then the 7th. Then the 5th. Then the 3rd.

What Beema said They take a few different measurements, and average them out to give an overall size to work out where bub is on the chart. For instance, my bubby had his head as 10th centile, but his abdominal and femur measurements were not on the charts, which brought his 'overall' size to about 5th centile (I think? It was almost a year ago LOL). Obviously there is way more to it than that, but that is a lay person's way of looking at it

I'm guessing they elected to birth her at that point? A drop from 5th to 3rd would be concerning. Glad to hear she's here safe and sound

They had planned to do a C/S and were just doing the final growth scan a few days before it.

I'm so glad that they did the C/S because I'm not sure if it was just nerves or if it was real, but DD barely moved the day before the C/S. They morning of the C/S i think I only felt her once or twice.

She's perfect. 7 and half weeks and 2.5 kilos. :-)

Sounds like it was good timing. So glad she's perfect. Of course, we would never wish it on them, but IUGR babies are soooooooo cute

Do they know why she was IUGR?

Oligohydramnios (low fluid) and placental insufficiency.

Had a couple rounds of steriods because of the placenta.

Sounds like your little girl is doing really well now Charlotte. I had the several u/s's too measuring my bubs growth. They were looking at bringing bub on at 35wks but due to the placenta was still working ok by the dopplers they didnt and just kepy monitoring. Yet I also wasnt able to go past the 38wks (well 38wks 4days) when Chloe was delivered by c/s. Chloe was at the 6th percentile, then upto the 7-8th percentile then around the 12th percentile by the end. So they had her weighing approx 2.9kgs 2wks before having her. When born though she was only 2.375kgs at 38wks 4days. So I can only imagine how little she would have been if she was delivered earlier.

At 6wks now, she is doing really well and weighing in at 2.92kg, yet my Little V at the same age was had only just hit her BW of 2.38kgs. The same happened with her they had her weighing in at 37wks and a few days 2.9kg, yet as I mentioned she only ended up weighing 2.38kgs at 38wks and a few days. Still only now she is 8.3kg at the age of 2yrs 2mths.

Both my girls arent on the chart yet, however V has taken on a chart all of her own.

Congratualtions hun on your little girl. hugs
