    suggestions for a gift

My aunt has asked my mum what she can buy for the baby (I'm guessing as a surprise for me) and I honestly don't know what to suggest for her to get... any suggestions? Also there are other rellies who want to get some stuff for us and I'm trying to think of a list to send to my parents so that they can tell them what we need. Basically I don't want the baby to have too much plasticky stuff or loads of stuffed toys - we're going to be moving towards the end of the year, and the less junk we have the better!

What I want to know is: what did you find really useful or nice to have once your baby came along? We have quite a lot of clothes we've either bought or got second hand from friends, and I know we'll need things like a sterilisng kit but thought I'd probably get that myself. I'd like to have a list that starts pretty cheap and goes up to about $100, I know some friends and relatives would like to spend quite a bit, but want to give them the choice, you know?

I think that some of the baby shops like babies galore let you do a registry...

a toy box (probably over $100 but maybe less on ebay or they could get a joint present)
    a sling
will you do cloth nappies? you can set up wish lists at some of the nappy sites
    wraps
    a cordless phone
    a first years photo album/book
    cot sheet sets
    towels & washers
    nappy stacker
    night light
some books (Yasin's early favourites were the maisy books)
    baby massage oil
    lotions and potions
    gro-bags
baby lullabys CD or baby mozart (or whatever you fancy)
    a daiper bag

A baby sling (either Baby Bjorn or HugaBub seem to be the ones you should ask for!)
    Baby monitor
A nice rug for their bedroom
    A (tasteful) lamp
Some books - children's classic treasury
    Some good quality cot linen
You could specify "handmade toys only" (to avoid the plastic)
    A baby gym
    a rocker
A good pure wool blanket (embroidered or not)

Also baby photo albums and time capsules are good. Baby record books. Ummm a nice growth chart - we were given one in silver with blue satin as the actual recording growth part. Sooo nice and it has a place to get the bubbas name engraved. Photo frames!

a handsfree kit for your home phone - goes over your head and has a little microphone like a receptionist. BRILLIANT - you can talk while breastfeeding!

gift vouchers are great like to target so if you have forgotton something you can get it later when bub is born..not real personal but they come in handy.
