the statistics of reactions are very interesting aswell.
the largest statistic was 25.8% of people trialed with this vaccine got a head ache. that was the biggest percentage of all.

also those ingredients arent the same as the ones listed on teh product disclosure statement we got at work with a listing of the ingredients and amounts etc.
also there is no thimerosol in teh single dose syringe. its only used in teh multi dose vial becuas eit needs to maintain equality of distribution of ingredients in teh multidose vial.

so if your concerned about it they can order in 10 single dose syringes, it is not totally out of teh question.

this vaccine shouldnt be given to people with an allergy to egg as it is made on a product which is based on chicken protein or has had an anaphylactic hypersensitivity to previous vaccine.

I'd always heard you shouldn't have it if you had egg allergies, this is the kind of conflicting info that makes me wonder...who do we believe??...If the experts can't agree how are we supposed to make our decisions with the conflicting information? Very frustrating.

The pamphlet (read propaganda) I got from the doctors office yesterday makes mention that is is NOT safe for people with egg allergies

When you have the vaccine, you have to fill out a form and one of the items on the declaration is that you don't have an egg allergy. This form has to be completed and signed before they will give you the vaccine. If I read literature stating otherwise, I would seriously question the validity and creibility of the literature and the author.

ETA: Just had quick read of the article and there are a number of 'myths' listed there that are on the form to sign to say that you have been informed of the risk including the one about paralysis.

Yes but cake is dangerous for some people with egg allergies I don't get why people are more suspicious of a vaccine than the foods they buy off the supermarket shelf. I really don't think there is a hidden agenda here. I also don't get the comparison with Thalydimide... sure medical professionals will never know how everything affects everyone but I do believe them when they say they have seen more deaths (due to contracting the virus) than birth defects from the H1N1 vaccine. At one stage there were half a dozen pregnant women on life support (due to having contracted H1N1) in one Sydney hospital alone the last time it swept through. BUT I still believe that all of us need to weight up our individual intuitive response to this. I agree it is not for everyone. But I suspect it is safe for the majority.

the reason eggs are listed is because the vaccine is made and produced in a chricken embryo. it is infected with H1N1 and then the antibodies produced are used so it has quite a high egg content.

it is just one precaution listed, as the implications if someone had an allergic reaction cant then come back and say i wasnt informed.

when someone has a reaction it get reported and it is all reported what we suspect the allergic reagent was eg the eggs or a sulphuric product or unknown cause..

In 1976 a swine flu vaccine in the USA caused paralysis (Guillian-Barre Syndrome) and it could do again.

FACT:

It was a one-off. The original effect was only an additional one case of GBS per 100,000 people vaccinated. The modern vaccine is very different, and no subsequent vaccines have been linked to GBS. In fact, research suggests vaccination may REDUCE the likelihood of getting GBS, which can be caused by an infection.

I developed GBS in 1992 when I was 10 following my annual flu vax, and both my GP and the specialist who treated me in Sydney said it was probably brought on by the immunisation. I haven't been vax'ed against the flu since despite being a chronic asthmatic on their recommendations. They also said be careful of MMR (can't remember why) and to just get straight rubella if I plan on becoming pregnant.

So in short, I'm not getting it, but that's because my GP has advised against it due to my history. I don't think I would want to get an immunisation whilst pregnant anyway, but that's just me.

I am 11weeks pregnant and had the swine flu vacine.
They have seen so many pregnant women become so sick with the actual swine flu itself, and new mums have actually died from it.
THis is my 3rd child and i know that when ur pregnant and get the flu its 10x worst then a normal flu.
My hubby also got the vacine as they are trying to immunise fathers to be also, incase a parent contracts the actual virus while they have a newborn. Imagine your newborn contracting the virus.

When my eldest child (now 8) was around 2 meningococcal and meningitis was a big thing and they came out with the vacine, i was torn on whether or not to get her vacinated as it was a new thing, i got her vacinated against it and all was fine.

I think this is the same thing, I will be getting my 2 kids vacinated against swine flu when it becomes available, there has already been far to many deaths with the swine flu virus but yet no deaths with the vacine.

My sister is a public servant for the government, they were already vacinated over 3months ago. she had pregnant women in her sector vacinated and yet there has been no proplems.[/FONT]

It really is one of those things that is a personal descion.

I got the vax and i know there are pro's and cons with everything but i feel comfortable with my decision.

I've just signed up on here as I was looking for info on the swine flu vaccination. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and avoided having the jab last year as I had the same concerns listed here - no clue what the potential long-term side effects are for the baby.

However, I'm now getting ready to head back to school in 2 weeks (I'm a high school teacher) and have heard that they're expecting the swine flu to come back around Feb/March. (Just as it came back in the US in Aug/Sept as autumn began and kids were going back to school.) As a teacher and an asthmatic, I know I'm at higher risk... but still very nervous about this vaccine. However, I do always get the seasonal flu shot every year, and I suppose I'm not really sure why the long-term side effects for the swine flu vac would be any different to those of the seasonal flu vac?? So with that part of my brain, I'm thinking I should go ahead and get it... Also, nearly ALL of my American friends who are pregnant, as well as my sister who is a nurse, were recommended by their OB's to get the jab.

BUT, I called 2 different sources today in Sydney to get their recommendations, and got 2 very different answers... Mothersafe wholeheartedly recommended it, while the midwife at my hospital said she wouldn't get it and that the current jab won't necessarily provide any protection about the swine flu that may or may not arrive here in Feb/March... She suggested waiting for a month or so to see if there is another outbreak, and getting the shot then if it happens...

So I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any recent recommendations from their doctors?? I know a lot of these posts were from October when the jab was very new, so just wondering if anyone has done anything about it recently?

My understanding is that, like the annual flu vax, the swine flu vax is based on the virus that has already been around and it will only provide limited (if any) protection against the new strains that develop. I am not an immunologist (or any kind of octor ) however, so please don't take my words as gospel!

I can't get the flu vax (due to developing Guillain Barre Syndrome after getting the shot when I was 10) and I'm a brittle asthmatic, and I've only had the flu once in 17 years of not getting vaccinated. It really is a personal decision with the swine flu shot. I'm not going to get it due to the before-mentioned reason, but I know pregnant women who have had it and they (and their babies) are fine

If you want good information, see if you can Google some peer-reviewed articles maybe?

Hi Ladies,

First time user here so not really sure how the ropes work, but thought I'd share my story. I was just over 6 weeks pregnant with my first baby. At two doctors strong recommendations I got the swine flu shot. After 4 days of getting it done my baby stopped developing. I had to have a D&C. My instincts were screaming at me not to get the shot but I decided to trust the doctors. I wish I had turned to these forums before I made that decision. It's a hard lesson to learn. To all, please reconsider getting the shot.

I've come to the conclusion that if I get the jab it will be in March sometime. Maybe there will be a revised vacc to treat the new strain? I've been meaning to look in to that....

Personally I'm over the whole conspiracy theory view of the swine flu and vacc. Maybe I'm too trusting, but I just can't see how the Government would take the risk of okaying a vacc for pregnant women and children if it weren't safe.

What Kelly said. I'm neither pro or anti vac, but in the case of H1N1, it all comes back to money and corporations. I think the power share between governments and corporations is incredible. The average politician / public servant knows bugger all about the science of disease, and takes advice from the corporate sector and privatised bodies. Capitalism is becoming an obese cow.

I wouldn't put it in my body, no way.
