    Singlets

this is really dumb question but im gonna ask anyways,

with my daughter i always used singlets from day one,
    why do we need them

my friend has a newborn and she wont use them, and i never thought to myself why do we need them.

i am due to have my second and i thoguht i would ask this question

is it because of things rubbing, or their skin or to help keep them warm

I guess because littlies aren't so good at regulating their own temperature so having an extra layer just makes sure they stay snug and warm.

I'll be getting some for our 'May' babies....but doubt I'll need them when I get back up here to Singas!

thats a good question- i have some singlets here ready and now im thinking why they need them

But i guess it is just an extra layer for hot days maybe?

They can't keep their body temps up very well so an extra layer close to the skin makes a big difference, it also helps avoid them getting a chill when their tops ride up (I found with DD I was forever pulling down her top or dress!).

i hate singlets on my bubs!!
they constantly ride up and i always have to pull tem down.
i use the singlet suit things with a tshirt with buttons ontop, works much better than a regular singlet!

I find th e bodysuits better under bubs clothes....no riding encountered. I used singlets for #1 and #2, but with the latter 2 i saw the light.....

They are so used to being super warm, singlets are used for that. I didn't really use they for bub 1 as she was a summer bub but I will put her in them for winter. This bub is due May so will use them from day 1

I like using singlets on my son just because it gives him an extra layer during the colder days and nights but also because some of his t-shirts or bodysuits have embroidered logos or pictures on the front with a piece of scratchy fabric on the inside. I have tried using no singlet with the t-shirt but he ends up getting irritated and has red marks on his skin.
Since he is only 13mths old I'll prob wait til he is maybe 2 or so and stop using them.

I laughed when I read this because I'm American, where they don't use singlets, and my husband's Australian. We had our first baby boy in Australia and everyone was giving me these singlets and I thought they were for girls because they look like they have a lace edge. I remember giving a blue one back to someone and suggesting they give it to another student who was expecting a girl. Lol! So I ended up using them with just a nappy for my January baby boy, though I found it annoying how they ride up. The snap bottom ones are so much better.

My MIL told me they are to provide extra warmth with our October girl and so I used them religiously. They don't ride much when under sleeper suits and I grew to like them a bit more .
