How long does ur cervix stay soft before dilating?

    Hey girls

Just a question i've been wondering for the past week, how long does your cervix stay soft until it start to dilate? Mine was soft last Wednesday night when I went into hospital for a false alarm...and the past few days I've had like constant dull pain like period pain...and one of my friends said I could be dilating or something... Is it a matter of weeks that your cervix can stay soft?

Thanks for your help I just get impatient some days and want to know when bub will be here and then other times I'm happy to just wait

I was about to ask the same question
Mine has been soft for 2 weeks now and I've been getting the period-type pains for most of that time as well. Hopeully someone else can give us all a better idea.

You're probably not going to like my answer ladies.... But how long is a piece of string?

It's one of those things that tell you that your body is getting ready to birth, but it can be that way for weeks (especially in someone who's had a baby before) or just a few days.

Hang in there I hope you all don't have to wait too much longer!

Thanks for your help Tobily, I sort of thought that would be it... and I spose cos this is my 2nd pregnancy everything is getting ready earlier lol... Oh I'll be right, I feel more for the girls who are actually overdue!! I know how u feel since my DD was 12 days late...I'm just hoping this time around this lil guy comes on time or a lil early cos the heat is getting to me!!

I'm glad someone asked this question!

My cervix was measuring at 39mm at my ultrasound when i was in hosp last week and I am constantly getting really bad period like cramps and really tight tummy so was thinking could this be the start!

Just reading your post and realise that most of you would have had your bubs by now? How long after did you go into labour? I am 33 weeks with bub#1 and I went into hospital at 31 weeks and told I had a soft Cervix after having an internal.
I am assuming that I could go early, so if you could tell me how long it took for you I would appreciate it. Thanks
