hi everyone,
just out of curiousity, how approx how long is the umbilical cord.
and how do babies get tangled in it? is it just the way the baby moves around or is it something that the mother does unknowingly?
thanks

Cords are all sorts of lengths, and yup, those babies play skippy in thereIt's very rare that a baby will run into trouble with the cord being tight around it's neck, around 30% of babies do have the cord around the neck and midwives always check for a cord as soon as the head has been born. Usually this can just be looped over it's head.

Hey Michelle
the umibilical cord can vary in length, anywhere from 20cm to 50cms
a baby can wrap themselves in a longer cord, with all the moving and grooving that they do...but mummy is not a factor in this
