What can I take for hayfever?

I am going crazy My nose is constantly blocked but with a slight trickle and I always have to blow it but to no relief. I'm starting to get headaches from it. My sinuses are all blocked and stuffy and I'm so irritated. All I've tried is Lemsip and it did nothing. I have some Dimetapp but it's categorised as a Class B drug so I shouldn't take it

Please help me!! Does anyone know what is safe and effective to take?

    TIA xox

If you need something stronger, polaramine is category A and safe in pregnancy. I only take it when I desperately need it, but it does give me enough relief that I can carry on with sanity intact. At this time of year, I generally find that my hayfever is so bad that herbal/homeopathic remedies just don't cut it.

When i was one holiday in the UK a few years ago, they ahd a pollen cloud and therefore loads of people were suffering terribly.
They did a tv segment on how to assist with the symptoms and what can you do for relief, aside from the medication, they said that if you found LOCAL honey, as in honey made from bees in your local area, it will contain parts of the pollen that you are allergic to, by eating it once a day it help build up an immunity to it and the hayfever symptoms decrease.
There were loads of people that swore by it.

If you go to the local yellowpages and look up apiarists (bee keepers), see if there are any in your area, give them a call and maybe they will sell you a jar or too.
Its not going to solve the problem immediately, but it may help control symptoms

Given that your hayfever is mostly nosey, the corticosteroid sprays (eg. rhinocort) are safe to use when pregnant. Talk to the drug info line people at Monash Med - (03) 9594 2361.

Before using any drugs, you might like to try some 'old fashioned' non-drug remedies - like a Neti pot or the modern equivalent, Fess Spray. Basically this is about flushing the sinus cavity with either lukewarm water or saline - which flushes out the irritants and relieves pressure.

Another thing you could try is a (very) warm facewasher over your eyes and nose. This is magic when you're having sinusy type pain and pressure. You'll be addicted to this in no time LOL.

Finally, don't forget that hayfever is about total load of allergens - so drink lots of water (to flush them out of your system), keep your house as dust-free as possible and stay indoors on high-pollen days. HTH, I hope you get some relief soon.
