    what do you say?

When you goto get your pregnancy confirmed what do you ask? Like if you've done a HPT at home and its positive do you say, 'well i think im pregnant' or 'i'd like to get a pregnany confirmed' or 'i'd like to have a pregnancy test done'? It kinda baffles me as to what to say because i know i am but you cant tell a doctor that until they see proof.

I just tell my Dr, that I have had a HPT come back positive... he asks the usual questions (LMP etc) and then asks if I would like to have it confirmed via a urine test or a blood... and if the urine test comes back positive, he books me a dating scan.

Yeah i just rocked up and said, "i'm pregnant" and he asked why i thought so and i said no AF, +ve HPT, sore BB's, feel sick, blah blah blah. Then he was like "Oh, i'll test and see then", did a urine test, called me a few days later "Congratulations, you're pregnant!" as if he was responsible! LOL. I was like "Well DUH!", then he booked me for my scan.

Tegan it depends on your age, I had a nuchal translucency scan with all of my pgs.

With my first pg, the doc said a positive hpt was all the proof she needed. With DD I don't think I even saw a doc - phoned the birth centre first thing and booked my first appointment with them.

    Hi Tegan

I got my first +ve HPT on Wednesday, went to the doctors on Thursday and told her that I got a +ve HPT and she gave me a referral for an early scan straight away (because high risk ectopic due to endo). I had the scan on Friday but they could not date it yet but could see the sac. Going by my LMP I'm about 5ish weeks.

So my +ve HPT (I did 4 of them!) was good enough for her, no blood tests, but I think I might ask her about blood tests when I see her next week.

I said, 'I think I'm pregnant, a test came back positive...well all of them did actually.' She said 'how many did you do?' I said 'ummm 4 or 5?' And she said 'You're definitely pregnant, which hospital should I send the routine blood test results to?'

So, I didn't actually get the pregnancy confirmed, she just checked my rubella/iron/blood type...you know, all those usual things.

I took my test in with me, but then I have known my Dr for years and he knew I was trying so I went in to get my 7 dpo blood work results and said "I have a little suprise for you" and showed him to which he said 'Well I guess you know your blood work was perfect then" with a big smile on his face.
I would not recommend this approach if you don't have a regular dr LOL they might get the men in white coats to take you away

When I got a positive HPT, I called my GP and asked him if I needed to have a bloood test to confirm it.. and he told me not to bother! I just told him I had tested a few times and they all came back positive, and do I need a BT at all.. He asked me how many tests I did (i did 4) and he said "oh its ok. That many wouldnt lie"... So, I never had any BT to confirm it.
I did hve to go back about 5 weeks later to have a BT when the hospital told me they wanted to know my rublella immunity, blood type and all those routine things.

My GP didn't bother testing either time, even though I had only got one BFP. He said the tests were reliable enough now that it was good enough for him. He just wrote me a referral to my ob and left it at that. I remember the first time thinking how foolish I would look if I had got it all wrong LOL!

My GP has never bothered confirming my tests. I just make an appointment, go in and tell them I've had a postive HPT and we go from there.
The tests are so accurate now that unless there's uncertainty with the result it's not necessary to run blood tests any more.

I took my tests in this time as I had had a neg BT two days earlier. I told him I think I'm pg. He said u can't be, U just had a neg BT, I showed him two faintly +ve HPT's and he could def see them and said well, ur likely right, but we'll do a BT again next week and make sure. That BT came back def +ve and I was sent off for all the other BT's. I was spotting too so dr sent me for early pg u/s (6wks by that stage and could see the bean and HB so was happy). Goodluck honey and I am so happy u got ur BFP so quickly this time!

Just ask to have a blood test done to confirm that you are pregnant. Getting a urine test done in the surgery wont tell you anything different to what the one at home does.
