    Baby Beds Query

    Hi Everyone

I've read a few threads re getting furniture on the cheap - however my question is bassinette vs hammock.

I love the idea of a hammock for a newborn - as per their sales line 'imitates the rocking sensation of the mothers womb and help prevent/ cure colic'... however my partner is not keen at all - thinks unsafe/ unstable. but i think it's GREAT.

Has anyone used them and have an opinion for or against? would really love to hear.

Also - have heard from a few ppl that baby bath not necessary as do in kitchen (!!) or bath - what are all your thoughts?

You could hire a hammock from somewhere like Hire for Baby and see if it suits you?? As far as a baby bath goes - we use ours all the time. It is a moulded one that was about $40 and was great as she was supported as a newborn, and we would put it on the dining room table with wipes, lotion towel, nappies etc all next to it and now as a toddler - yep it's a bit squishy but she's happy enough in it and we save water. Now with number 2 on the way it will get even more use! I know some people are happy to use the ktichen sink/laundry sink but I don't like the thought of the yuckies in the sink with bubs! $40 ish is not a huge investment if you ask me! HtH!

We loved our hammock and used it for both our babies.
There is a massive thread about them somewhere. I'll dig it out when I get a moment.

As for the baby bath - I found it a total PITA. I ditched it when DS1 was about a month old in favour of showers together or a very shallow bath and never regretted it for a moment. I used it to soak clothes in for a while then freecycled it to a single mum-to-be. It was a waste of money and resources.

I have to say a baby bath was about one thing that we did use. I found it great for when bub was tiny, DH would put it up on a table , and then it was great just to use in the bath. I got a cheap one at Ikea, but it was a really nice blue.
As for beds, we just used a snuggle bed in the cot until DD got a bit bigger. xo
