Yes, it is hot and I'm pregnant

So any of you in Adelaide will know that we are suffering through a heatwave. It is in the high 30s and has been since.... oh, so long I can't remember. (maybe a week? 6 days?)

I'm coping as best as I can. I'm blowing out my carbon footprint running the aircon. The washing is being hung out at night time and I'm actually dressed and out of the house early to do shopping or other essential outings.

Of course polite conversations with people at the shops are all about how hot it is. But then they look at my bump and say "oh, it must be so much worse for you!"

Um, I don't know? I can't remove the bump and see if it is cooler without it. This drove me nuts last time I was pregnant. This baby is due a week before DD was and with DD I got so many comments about how hot I would be because my third trimester coincided with summer.

So great things about being pregnant during summer....

I don't need to buy lots of maternity clothes, esp jumpers, jackets.
I'm wearing much more revealing, tight clothes. Cos I have a reason for my stomach sticking out.
Swimming is such relief when you are big and uncomfortable.
My leg hair pretty much stops growing when I'm pregnant. Very convenient for summer.
I don't have to worry about christmas weight gain and january diets.


And the main thing is that I'm growing a baby. That is more important.

I have a lot of summer clothes that I've always complained "make me look pregnant" - now I actually am pregnant, I look fantastic in them! And the blue maternity dress I'm wearing to my brother's year 12 graduation tonight? GORGEOUS! Who'd want to be pregnant in winter?

HollyC I'm hearing ya babe! After the 14+ day heatwaves we've had in Adelaide over the last two years, this one at the moment is a breeze!

I was only half way through my pregnancy in January this year, but I loved being preggo in the heat, especially cos I could get away with the clothes - dresses, singlets etc. I really got to show off my bump and I was so comfortable.

The leg hair thing is the same for me - GOLD!

when bub is born you dont have to worry about how cold it is and wrap him/her up....you can just cuddle your beautiful nuddie baby

i told people i would rather have bubs still in tummy than be feeding and holding a hot baby!, i only had me to keep cool and comfy, not a newborn

I know exactly where you're coming from!!! DS was due at the end of Feb this year and it's all I heard all summer....."you'll be so hot" "you're gunna die in this heat" "how will you cope?" etc etc. People just need something to SAY to pg women, they don't seem to care how banal or irrelevant it might be. I actually like the heat and it didn't worry me too much. I wasn't going around complaining about it to everyone I met and I'm assuming you're not either.

I used to openly (politely of course!) disagree with people that it was worse for me by pointing out that everyone is uncomfortable on really hot days, they had started the discussion after all, they were complaining to me, not the other way around! I would gently point that out then change the subject and it usually shut them up. If it didn't I would either get a bit more assertive that pg was something to celebrate, not whinge about or roll my eyes and jokingly tell 'em they were the 283rd person to make that comment to me today.

February is a GREAT time to have a baby!

My sister had her bub in June and always said how she'd never plan to be pregnant and due during summer because of how hot she would get.

When I was about 8wks pg (and she knew) she made a comment to someone else "You'd have to be stupid to get pg and be due in summer!" Hello! I was standing right there!

The funniest thing is that now she is pg with number 2 - due at the end of Jan!!

But as for the heat, i can understand, i was week and a bit over with my DS and in that week and abit we had 3 days of 43 and when DS came earth side - it was 47.something. (black saterday) but feb is a good time to have a baby!

Maybe people are just trying to be nice and compassionate -you know, they are most likely not just trying to say banal things to irritate you.

I suppose some people just feel the need to say something. Like asking when you are due or what you are having. But people do have a tendency not to be very tactful! Be careful what you say to a pregnant woman people!!

I forgot about getting up in the night to feed a newborn. Much nicer when it isn't cold.
