I was chatting to a friend today (who is also pregnant) and she said one of her friends who had been through IVF told her that an IVF pregnancy will be induced at around 39 weeks as a routine. This was news to me, and I replied that I thought it depended on the situation. Now it has me thinking - and I will ask my OB next time I see her... But I thought I'd ask what people's experiences are?
Did you have or know of an IVF pregnancy and was the birth induced as a matter of course?
i would think that after conception, the IVF factor is completely unrelated to the progression of the pregnancy! perhaps your friend knows of people who've been through IVF that have had other related high risk factors, but i have never heard of an IVF pg being told they have to deliver at 39weeks SOLELY due to the method of conception!
That's not true AFAIK. Conception by IVF does not necessarily equate to a high risk pregnancy, and no, you aren't routinely induced just for the hell of it (which in essence, is what inducing just because it's an IVF pregnancy sounds like). I know I would have kicked up a huge stink if my ob had told me that.
My ob was in fact happy for me to go 41+3 weeks before we 'talked about it some more'.
