hope everyone had a nice easter break. DH's nanna died on Friday, funeral tomorrow and we can't make it. Him and his sis are the only grandkids, so a bit sad but will be there in 2 weeks. She was very ill for a long time and in her 90s but it's stil sad when a life comes to an end.
anyhoo should go to bed. tired, even though i had a 2-hr nap today (sorry saph should have probably put a warning on that) ox

I have a question for everyone. We are going away for 2 weeks and at both destinations they have somewhere for xavier to sleep. But I really want to take his Bassinet so he has something familiar to sleep in. Should I just stop being silly and use the other cots.
hey saph - we are doing the same in 2 weeks' time. I'm taking one of his blankets and a set of sheets so he has those in his bed and it smells like home.
i've also used a wrap since he's gone into his cot first along the side of the cot so it didn't seem so open and then he started grabbing it... now i've cut it into small squares and he uses it to go to sleep (it's so cute, he tells it all his problems lol) :) so will be taking his blanket/comforter. do you have time to also create a comforter?
off to my mum's group this morn but didn't find out about it til 9pm last night!!! email went awry! so have to try and scrounge up a plate to share! brh.
well that's easter 2010, so back to life :)

AFU - Thank you all for your birthday wishes - we had a wonderful day. It truly was a very special moment for us. Jazzy is pretty much over her virus, bar the odd cough here and there, but finally I think we are able to get back into the swing of nursery etc. I thought it was about time I gave you all a little look at my sweet angel. I have put a little photo in my ticker - not sure if I will keep in there permanently - I'm a bit funny about having photos up on the internet... I know PARANOID! But I'd rather err on the side of caution. To me she is the most beautiful thing I have ever laid eyes on, but then I am just a little bit biased ;)

Saph :hug: the lactation nurse at Child and Youth Health Marion was talking about bottles with teets like nipples (for fussy bubs) have you tried finger feeding him the meds? Upsidedown finger (clean, no nails) in mounth then suringe meds down the side. I had to do this with link when i was in hosp now he's a pig loves all things I feed him.
Smithy did Charlie ever settle on her own in bed? I get linc sleepy then put him down, so there's no "oh were's mum" cry. took a little while but it's working (most of the time) he'll go down it's just the waking up bit. Smithy how much was Charlie sleeping at night before?

ATM loved the rain today, had a big mummy snuggle in bed for an hour this morning Linc was restless but it was nice still. I got one big sleep out of him last night 10.30-2am! then up at 4.30 and again at 6.20 :wall: I think it's not burping too, but when I try at night he falls asleep on my sholder, I'm not going to wake him. Bloody WIND! Today I watch two DVD :o it took all day :lol: but I did it, DH got home cranky and made a sooky face when I said I wanted to go to the gym, So I pulled out a bigger one and I'm off when he get's back from the bank.
I went for a walk with Linc today and he fell asleep in the pram for the first time in ages but it's not enough movement for me. A walk is just for fun not for fat burning.
Any burping tips would be great.

Not sure how much I can get on here as I have a really slow internet connection (dongle) and it has already taken about five minutes just to load this reply page and my little man may not lie happily for much longer while I type. This ladies is the reason I have been MIA for ages.
Green - I read somewhere to keep them upright for at least ten minutes after every feed throughout the day as the wind accumulates and makes them fussy with excess wind in the evening. I used to have big probs with wind in my little man but it seems to be calming down now. I have never had to burp him at night though when he is sleeping. I just used to have hours and hours of burping and screaming before bed. He does though fart alot in his sleep. He sort of thrashes and grizzles then farts but doesn't wake up. However since he is in bed with me it does wake me sometimes!!!! LOL

Murph - congrats on successful move and GL with those backward Southern docs and their backward administrative ways!!!! Speaking as a Queenslander here!!! LOL! Seriously though I hope Jazz can get her implants at the right time.
Neptune - hope things work out for you. I second you seeing someone to talk it through as we cannot change others behaviour but we have control over our own attitude about their behaviour until they do! Not that I am saying that you have the wrong attitude (no way!!!!) but that as he is not going to change tomorrow without some help you need help and support in coping with it in the meantime IYKWIM.
Smithy - hope the sleep settles back down again...sounds like it could be a Wonder Week...

BOC - welcome and congratulations on the birth of Jagger!
I am so behind I am sorry I have to leave people out! Little man is starting to grumble so must be quick.
AFM - sleeping is still a nightmare but Breastfeeding is easy now!!! I love doing it! I swear it was the hardest thing I have done in my life. Seriously everything else I have ever done I have been able to fudge it or fake it, School, Uni, jobs etc but this I had to do it properly and I had to perservere and I got through in the end. He is spacing out the feeds now (which is meaning a little less sleep at night because the evening tanking up cluster feeds are gone) so life is a little easier now but he still won't sleep!!!!! Although he is getting a few more naps into the day. I feed him to sleep and he sleeps from 20 mins to an hour by himself on my bed. He still gets a sleep in the sling now and again when I am out and about but he is more alert now so likes to look about!!! Yesterday he barely slept at all but that meant I got a four hour stretch of sleep last night so swings and roundabouts I guess!!! The screaming has settled down now too. Our witching hour at night which used to be about three hours is now only half an hour! I think nd hope we are meeting our three months turnaround that everyone was promising me would happen!!! LOL

we got her ears pierced when she was 12 weeks old - i wanted it done while she was young and wouldn't pull at them at all. i'll admit she screamed like a banshee for a few minutes, and i had a minute of mummy guilt, but given she has had no dramas with them at all, i know i did the right thing getting them done:

OMG thnak goodness that day is over. I am shattered. Xavier has had all of about an hours sleep today and he is only happy when he is upright and I mean completely unright not lying in the bouncer.
Quick question has anyone used a bumbo. thinking of getting one to see if that helps the reflux. Back to the doctor tomorrow maybe they will have some other suggestions.
For some reason I haven't been getting updates, so didn't realise you were all here cheering for me while I had my back turned!
I love you girls, thanks so much for the kind words and support from every corner of OZ. I'm feeling a bit better.
I keep wavering from decision to decision. I have NO desire to leave despite living in a shambles, so at the moment my decision is to stay until I am forced to do something for Adam's sake. In the meantime, I will try and get some counselling for myself organised because I do need someone to just hear me out. I am still in the middle of composing my letter, trying to balance it is the key with him, he will jsut block out everything that I say if I am too harsh! Have to give him some good stuff too.
I'm in Sydney and my parents are in Melbourne which is hard. However, they go away every winter to QLD, and they have offered for me to move down there while they are gone (or for however long I want) to save me the hassle of getting a lease etc.......it is nice to have that as a backup, but I would hate for Adam and DH to be so far apart. Anyway, at least it is an option if all else fails. And a comforting one, because it would stop me feeling so incredibly awful at leaving because it is kind of 'home' and I grew up there. Also, I thought I could tell DH that I could stay there to give him some space to clean up without him having to worry about Adam's safety ie he could do his worst!
Yesterday, we had a break through with one aspect of the house, so this MAY get things moving a bit better. So I'm happy at the moment to stop thinking about it so much and just get on with it. And keep writing my letter (novel!).
I have read everyone's posts and thinking about all of you lovely mummies. To those not getting much sleep, hang in there and take each day as it comes.
Thanks again for listening....it REALLY helps. I have a couple of paths to walk, and I do feel better.:D
saph, i use a hugabub when Ash is particularly feral either through over tiredness or reflux. i love it, it's very good on my back, which has caused me problems for many years. i can walk around and potter about in it but i don't do a lot of house work cos he gets int he way ie can't reach the stink to wash up lol. hope the doc helps.
neptune - that's great about having an out of your parents place. it might embarrass him into doing something if he knows that everyone else knows. you could not do it as "i'm leaving you'' but "i'm going away, I need a break and i need things to change dramatically while i'm away or we'll have to consider different living arrangments permanently''. If you went for just a week or two it might jostle him into action? maybe? Is there someone else who may get through to him. Have a little chat mano e mano.
oh dear have a tired bub all his squealing and chatting must be wearing him out lol.

Had to :lol: at the little boy discussion, I have a little wizzer on my hands too. He's recently discovered that he hates even a droplet of wet in his nappy & cries instantly. Night before last we went through 3 nappies in the space of 10mins at he 2am feed! And somehow he keeps managing to pee out the side or back of the nappies, (I have absolutely no idea how!) he goes through 3-4 clothing changes a day too. And this morning I put him in bed with me for the first time ever. Picked him up an hour later and there's a big puddle in my bed! :doh: But I can't complain, that's the worst of what I'm dealing with, for now. He's so easygoing, eats sleeps. But I'm waiting for the axe to fall in these wonder weeks! It's starting to freak me out at the thought!
Oh and my little guzzle-guts has gained 320g this week! 630g in just under 3 weeks total! I think he's gonna be a hunka chunka LOL.

Well doc said just hang in there and see her when we get back. We could also see Nagala which helps parents with sleep issues. Although Woo hoo I got 5 hours sleep last night in a row. And he has slept today so lets see what happens from here.

Boc just a thought (don't worry) does your little man get upset when he wees too? Linc had a a UTI when he was small and I missed it just thinking he was fussy antibiotics cleared it up. If he is unhappy when passing urine I'd get a pee sample to the GP and get it checked can be serious in little ones and it's not comfortable. if only crying post pee how bout a bigger nappie? Linc grew out of newborns like overnight (ebay the 1/2 box left)

Poppyfairy Linc is the same when in bed with me, I do the upright for 10mins guess he'll grow out of it. I'm glad the BF is easier now :) Linc still sleeps in the sling every time, but he's HEAVY now. and so glad less screaming for you.

ATM in shock Lincoln slept 8pm-3.30am DH woke me at 2am "should we wake him" NO! DH had already checked on him at Midnight such a cute DH sometimes. So up STARVING and screaming at 3.30am then back down to 6.50! Lucky me, although I still was a zombie for half an hour, I have no idea how I'm going to get going in the mornings when work starts in a couple of months. Linc is still sleeping an hour up 90ish minutes during the day most of them happy but the 9am up time seams to be grizzly.
have any of you ladies put your little ones in child care? I'm so scared they wont look after him when he's grizzly? I think I'm being silly but I can't get it out of my head.
hi green, it's a sling/baby carrier thing, it's just a really long piece of material that you tie around yourself and pop bub into. Ash loves it, he had a good kip this morn for an hour or so while i did the shopping.
oh i would have killed Dh if he'd woken me! lol.
We had a very good day with ash yesterday. he went down for all his sleeps very well. 2 mins of grizzle then pass out! he did exactly what he is 'supposed' to. lol. And slept from 7pm to 4.45am! (with a dreamfeed at 9.30pm). then from 5.15am to 7am (well he falls asleep about 2 seconds into his night feed lol.
he's feeding really well atm. so relieved. still up chucking heaps but at least he's feeding better! so happy. sure it'll change but amm really trying to get less stressed about things as i think it rubs off.

poppy - not sure if i say HELLO LADY back! so true about can't fake or fudge this. there's no shortcuts in caring for bub cos it'll be your undoing - as i learnt the other night. i was soo tired i couldn't stay awake the extra hour to dream feed ash before bed... so he woke at 11pm rather than 2 or 4am like usual!!! and i only got a few hours sleep so felt awful awful awful.

Well... I'm home again after a few days away staying with my parents. I was reading, but didn't really have time to post anything...
Anyway, there's news on this front - after all my thinking that I could sit around and wait for ages before we tried for number two, DH has informed me that he doesn't want to be too old (he just turned 40 last month) and would prefer to go sooner rather than later. :o We still have the issue of needing to stop my arthritis meds and waiting 3-6 months before we can go back for another FET, so it won't be incredibly soon, but... :o I guess I need to start seriously thinking about a doctor and a clinic - as I seriously do NOT want to go back to my old doctor, and he's at a different clinic now, anyway.
I'm not sure whether it's because we went away or just down to teething, but Sam's sleeping has been crap and after an apparently good start, he's so far from being adjusted to the end of daylight savings that it's just not funny! Hopefully things will be better now that we are back at home.

well i just wanted to pop in and say a big hello to you all whilst i have a second,still packing and trying to manage everything :o in between charlies feeds,so i really hope your all well and know im thinking of you all .charlie had her very first taste of farex yesterday and again this morning,dont think she got much though she spits it all out lol..so i went and got her a baby plastic spoon today and will see how she goes tomorrow with that,she seems to love it though and OMG SHES SLEEPING AGAIN WOOHOO i think her little tummy is full :D.the only other thing is i feel sorry for her its like she knows were movving or something ,shes always looking round the house and its like shes thinking "were has that thing gone ' poor chicken lol.

Smithy, we moved house when Sam was 8 weeks old... he knew things were up then and got very unsettled as well. That was the point in time he completely stopped being able to self-settle and we've cuddled/rocked him to sleep ever since. Can I just ask why you are starting solids so early? I think the fact that she's spitting it out means she's just not ready.

;)BW as this is my 5th child i dont believe that charlie is not ready ,at first most babies spit it out as there just not use to it ,and after 5 babies i do believe i have some idea.all my kids have always started farex a bit ealier as they have all been very hungry kids,it has never hurt any of them,infact all my kids are highly intelligent,do very well at school, and are all state rep swimmers.
so as for charlie not being ready i beg to differ.its not like im forse feeding her i just gave her a TASTE.
smithy, no one passing judgement on you, just asking a question. as most of us are first time mum's, we're introducing solids based on WHO guidelines etc - 11 weeks just seems very early - i'm sure BW was asking the question out of genuine interest. i know i was recommended to start farex at 4.5 months only if DD's reflux didn't settle. prior to that, it was frowned upon. i guess a lot of us have gone the BLS route as well - and a baby pushing food from their mouth is part of the gag reflex that indicates they're not ready for something. how you choose to parent is your choice obviously. i'm sure there was no implication that feeding your child early would impair their intelligence as you seem to imply was being said from your further comments...
not having a good day here - DD has a serious belly ache if her behaviour is anything to go by. she rarely gets upset to the point of distressed - i've been spending all day settling her (or thats how it feels). so i'm off to do some reading and try again to get her to settle. not likely

ok, so i said gagging rather than "tongue thrust" reflex - it's part of the same process though - if they're not ready they push food out. i apologise for using the wrong term! as to your question - no, my DD has not pushed food out with her tongue - we use baby led solids. i have never spoon fed her anything - if something requires a spoon, she feed herself. she holds her own food, she guides it herself - she eats what she wants when she wants it. this is the decision i have made in how to feed my child. but quite honestly, what difference does it make if she did? i wasn't drawing a comparison of my daughter to yours, was simply commenting on the gag/tongue thrust reflex and what i have learned both through my research since becoming a parent, but also through several years of medical science study at uni.:

yes, we have made different decisions. everyone respects your right to decide on what is right for your child - we simply commented that it seemed early to be introducing solids. especially if Charlie is pushing it out. i don't know about BW, but i won't comment again as apparently it isn't welcome.
to everyone else - i have refrained from posting in here much of late as you mostly have younger bubs. it's becoming more and more apparent that what i have to offer may not be relevant to you all. i will continue to read, and if anyone asks something that i feel i can offer advice on, i will post, but i won't post as much anymore as i have in the past. if you particularly want my input, maybe put my name in your post. i will mostly skim from now on. you guys all have a bond from having shared your pregnancies and can probably offer each other more support than i can give at this point in time. i need to focus on my DD and my family.
well BG I'd still love your input as while my bub is a bit younger than yours, i value your advice on what has worked for you. I really like hearing from the girls with older kids as they have experience that i am still to get!! It's like sending you girls into the tigers cage first and then asking you "what should i do/not do" lol. anyway BG i'm sad that you don't feel relevant to this thread - you're a mum after LTCC! and by the looks of E, a good one! you are very relevant. And there are others here with other and older kids too.
Smithy - i'm sure BW did not mean to offend you in anyway. the posts didn't sound like your usual self either love. So big hugs, i can't imagine moving with such a young bubba! we fortunately get our place all cleaned by contractors when we leave, thankfully cos moving out of private rentals is HELL lol. How far away is the new place? Lots of ute load fulls or removalist truck job? Remember, no heavy lifting for you missy! lol.
bw - wow that is exciting news re trying again! so when do you think you'd start? Hope you had a good trip... as for daylight savings, it has worked well for us cos Ash would go to bed at 8/9pm so now it's 7/8pm :)
am cooking rice pud with sultanas to use some milk about to go out of date! yummo! and good practice for when Ash is ready to munch... i can just see me making a nice batch of rice pud for him and DH and I stealing it all. I went through the baby food book i bought at a garage sale and am loving those recipes! we are big health/low fat diet people, why didn't i think to look in a baby recipe book before! it's all so healthy and is all the good fats etc!!
anyway, this is usually such a supportive and friendly thread and that's why I love it. I hope it continues to be so... for everyone.

i've got a robyn barker baby and toddler meals and a Family Cirlce baby and toddler food. I picked both up from garage sales and didn't look at them til the other day. Give a really good outline of good foods for bubs, how much, and recipes for as they get older. did you knwo you can make your own farex with brownn rice! so guess what i'll be doing lol.
BG - i just pmed you my rice pud recipe ... okay it's actually the women's weekly recipe but it's been grubbied lol.

I got a baby recipe book when I was pregnant. Some of teh recipes are pretty nice! I've never really bothered cooking different meals for A though - barely motivated to cook one meal. We used rice flakes as a base for mush (it cooks up like porridge).

A started at a new daycare today. Didn't do too badly, considering. I only had a small knot of anxiety in my tummy - last time I felt absolutely awful.
I *think* we may have turned some sort of developmental corner in regard to sleep - A is actually happy to go to bed now and doesn't fight sleep. Yes, that's right, he wants to go to sleep. Amazing. And.... sometimes he even goes to sleep on his own. :o So if you're busy rocking, feeding or otherwise mothering your baby to sleep, take heart - one day (hopefully not 2 years down the track, but anyway) your little one will figure it out.

Adam is a llittle cherub, a little unsettled at the moment....maybe teething?.....one day he's fussy and rubbing at his jaw, the next day he is fine. So I'm just rolling with it LOL. He has only just started to roll at 6 months, but I really think it's because he is so heavy! Started solids in earnest and he loves it. I've also got the Robyn Barker baby food book which is very straightforward. He is still vomiting all the time so now we just have technicolor everywhere! Oh the joy. He is trying very hard to crawl, and he's getting very frustrated! Almost sitting up. Love my little boy :lol:

I'm enjoying a lovely cuddle with jazzy so just one hand typing and not sure how long it will last.
I was a bit surprised in catching up with recent posts about the early feeding debate and I can understand what smithy is feeling. I guess i had a similar experience when I gave jazz solids before 4 months. we all take well meaning comments as a personal attack because we live with all this mother guilt no matter what we do, but when it comes from people who don't usually comment, it feels a bit harsh and confronting. My reaction to comments directed at me was to stew in private and say nothing until it all washed over, because I felt a bit defensive and a tad p'd off despite being told not to take it that way. I believe in my own common sense and the fact that no one knows my baby as well as I do and i know that's true of smithy, just as we all do the best we can. It can get a bit over the top adhering to every bit of research and some apply it to the letter of the law, while others (like me), dance around the edges, feeling it out as we go but never endangering our babies with our choices.
BG you have so much to offer all of us here and your comments are always welcome so I hope you don't feel this is no longer your home. In fact, I have come to know which comments will spark an answer from you and janie and i love it when you pop up with your advice based on "been, there, done that" and we hear what lies ahead. :)
I hope the bad vibes blow over quickly as this is a fantastic source of hope, fun, wisdom and love between all of us brought together on our extraordinary journey.
Neptune, so sorry to hear things are in a bad way for you. I have to admit, I think about it constantly and wonder how things are going? You are taking on so much with your study, your home problems and a new baby. Can you reorganise your psychology study (if only to make me feel less slack for not resuming mine post-baby):redface:. Seriously, I'm a big believer in the "Women can do anything" line, but just not all at once. You know that hoarding is not a rational thing and it's just the other end of the spectrum from "clean freaks".. Just that one is more acceptable because it's not as messy. You try stopping obsessive cleaners from cleaning and they will self-destruct. the same will happen with your DH if you don't have the resources in place to support the habit and replace the behaviour...well that's what I think anyway. If he won't go to a counsellor, you can try what I did with DHs post -traumatic stress and go to one on his behalf and start things moving without him being there, at least to talk to someone. Alternatively, like Grub said, maybe a mate, parent, brother or someone who is not just the "whingeing, neurotic, over-reacting wife" (his words, not mine) could have a word? It's such a big thing you are entering into with the thought of leaving him. I'm really feeling for you and wish you all the luck you need.
Oh dear, where do I start? I want to keep coming here but life is getting so totally overwhelming and all about chasing these implants for Jasmine. It's so not easy. I am in the process of lobbying to get funding if my health fund won't support the operation or pay for them. I have a fantastic new support team down here but nothing is like is was back in QLD and its all piece meal and so slow getting anything done. I've got this hospital paying for this ear and this charity paying for that ear and this theatre expense covered by this one and blah blah blah,,,I said I wouldn't whinge, but some days, I get so frustrated I want to cry. Not going to cry!! Hmm, getting dusty in here...better change subject.
Ahh, my little gem is a hefty 5.48 kilos now and 64cm. She is just outrageously cheeky now and charms the pants off everyone who meets her. Mum had a great time here and I plan to take Jazz to Melbourne as soon as I can and with the implants being done in Melb, that's even better. Err, implants...there's that word again!

Neptune - good luck with your uni assignment - I so respect people that study as well as raise children - I don't know where you find the time! Adam sounds gorgeous - they all start moving at different stages, but they all catch up to each other eventually. Hope everything is going ok with your DH.
Marcellus - hope the new daycare continues to go well - I so know that knot in your stomach. And way to go with the sleep!
BG - I love to hear how you and E are going - I think E and Jasmine are pretty close in age so it is nice for me to have updates as to how she is going.
Smithy - I hope the move is going okay honey. I HATE moving... but once you are in your nice new place it will all be worth it. Hope Miss Charlie is well.

BW - Oh how EXCITING! I'm jealous - I would love to start again soon too, but it will depend on a few different factors as to exactly when we can start.
Green - Jasmine's daycare are always great with comforting upset babies. As soon as one starts getting grizzly they are there giving them a cuddle.
Hi to everyone else - hope you are all well.
AFU - well we are home again - SICK! Just when Jasmine has started back at daycare this week. She went in Wed and Thurs, then late last night started vomitting and vomitted all through the night poor love. She seems much better now and is keeping breast milk down and is certainly asking for lots. Took her to doc and he says that she is well hydrated and it looks like yet another virus. Those of you that are going to use daycare the one thing I would say is in those early days be prepared for the virus'. I don't think I was fully prepared for how often she was going to get sick. Hopefully for any of the rest of you, it won't be as constant as what it has been for us. I just can't wait for Jazzy's immunity to get fully built up so that she isn't catching everything going around.

Just wanting to jump in to say I agree with the girls, lets support each other in the decisions we make. We are all playing this mummy game by ear and there is just too much negativity out there already about what we "shouldn't do".
As for the baby recipe books, I was given a book before Tara was born. It call the Complete Baby & Toddler Meal Planner by Annabel Karmel. It has some fantastic recipes up to the toddler years which will probably become part of our family meal planner when Tara is a little bigger.
Well we have been a little sick here as well, just a cold I think for all of us so making sure Tara stays warm and well hydrated and getting lots of rest. Luckily for me Tara is happy to take water from a sippy cup, just 10ml-20ml's but still enough to keep up her fluids. Still getting lots of wet & dirty nappies so hopefully soemthing that will pass pretty quickly as next week all things begin.
It is hard to come to terms with the fact that Tara will be 6 months old on Monday and starts swimming lessons (that's if her cold is gone away) and then immunisations on Wednesday and her MCHN visit on Thursday for weigh in. I'm guessing she now weighs between 7.5kg-8kg's :dance:. We are also doing the car seat change this weekend as well to forward facing and I've even just bought another cheaper car seat for our little car and also a stroller so I don't have to take the big car out all the time.
Anyway, better get little miss into bed for another nap and then lunch. Oh, also daylight savings worked out well for us... bed by 6.30pm and awake 8.30am... I am so lucky to have a baby that loves her sleep.

BW - eeek, exciting!
I love all the recipes in those baby books, but to be honest I usually end up making everything up myself. I did use them to make lots of different fruit/vegetable mini muffins. DS1 still loves anything that comes in the shape of a mini muffin. And vegetable fritters/pikelets too. Picky eaters are a bit frustrating, but they force you to get creative!
DS2 is 3 months old now - wow, time flies. I can't believe he will be my last baby. Maybe just one more?!

murph :clap: to your one handed post! i can't even play facebook scrabble with ash asleep on me! lol. i'm sad you are having such a battle. don't these people know you and jazzy have enough challenges ahead without them adding to your stress levels? and no don't cry -focus that frustration into determination. I agree.. women can do anything and i also agree they need to take one or two battles/challenges at a time! do you like KI?
kelly - i was just thinking about you and tara. Did her modelling shots come out good? any work ?? oh i can''t wait for the seat change. I find it so hard to get the little man out of his... he's sooo long and grabs onto the straps then mummy dongs his head on the seats or ceiling because she was negotiating legs and hands and forgot about the head. then she dongs hers.. and now the car roof material is falling down. DOH!
janie -that sucks about getting sick so much. poor little bubba! especially being BFed, i thought that was supposed to really help a lot but i suppose nothing is 100% against viruses. big hugs to you both!

What do you girls with bubs on solids use to keep the mess contained? do you find one of those 'drop cloths/plastic sheets' helpful?
oh marcellus -that talk of sleep is like porn for a mother lol. congrats tho, do you find you are still waking up for him even if he's not? so cute putting himself to bed!
I agree with murph about the huge individual differnces. just got back from an ABA meet up. one of the mum's first child was a piggy on solids at 5mths and standing and climbing at 7months... her 2nd bub is nearly 8 mths and not interested in solids and only just starting to crawl! Horses for courses.
am sersiously considering talking dh into a camp trip this weekend... hmm.

Still waiting to get Tara's shots back and for her to all be set up to do some work, they reckon it takes 4-6 weeks to get organised and it has just hit 4 weeks now.
As for the solids mess, I find that the following are essential for us:
1. Highchair
2. Normal Bib
3. Plastic Backed Bib
4. Spew Rag (or cloth nappy if you prefer... that's what I use)
5. Fast Reflexes...haha
I basically layer Tara up, normal bib then a plastic backed bib on top and then the spew rag draped over her. I have found the plastic backed bibs a godsend for solids (got mine from Big W pack of 10) as it collect all the spills, they do stain with most foods but I would rather have them stained than her clothes. The normal bib underneath is to catch all the saliva and dribble bits from her chin and the spew rag to clean up the mess around her face, hair, ears and wherever else food ends up... especially up the nose.
And trust me they are fast moving little creatures and if you are not fast enough to get that loaded spoon out of the way a little hand can swipe it before you know it and food is everywhere. Anyway that's what I do...
Grub - i had a very chucky baby - we didn't start solids til later (6 months) and started with normal food rather than purees. i found she rarely bought anything up at all after we started solids. i honestly can't remember her bringing up much in the way of her solids at all. she's been a bit sickly the last week or so, but is teething, and that seems to make it a bit worse - but with her normal everyday chucky habits, it's pretty much stopped altogether since we started on the solids. before solids, she would brining up milk every feed, up to 8 or 10 times. it was so frustrating! i now only have one puke rag in the nappy bag "just in case" as opposed to having to carry 4 if we went out anywhere!
kinda feel a little sorry for you guys starting solids in the coming months. i guess we got the messiest phase out of the way in the middle of summer - we'd strip E to her nappy and feed her like that!
