I think my spotting is due to shoving so many progesterone drugs in my vagina Twice each day but am looking for any experience from LTers.
After 11 wks of no problems last night I experienced red light spotting but kind of textured or fibrous with a little blood caught up. Only when I go to the loo not from lying down. I am finding it more difficult to find room to put 3 pessaries & 1 crinone up there and I think the crinone is scraping my vagina to get up next my cervix. I'm also constipated which is probably putting pressure on everything.
Anyway I'm not panicing just wondering if anyone else found this. I hope to wean off the drugs from next week.
Xx
Hi Dusty, i was told to stop my P4 at 4 weeks so i was lucky, i dont think i could have copped, my nurse did tell me to insert them up my bottom as they are also absorbed better but would only try that with the pessaries not the crinone! (yuck)
I had no idea that you were having spotting? many women say that theirs is due to the P4 support that they are taking irratating the cervix, when do you get your P4 levels checked again, maybe if they are high enough you could reduce or come off a little early, or try the bottom method!
Thanks Lou, you are up early too
Spotting only started during the night. I too did the pessaries rectally but my body couldn't cope after 8-9 weeks & I definitely had no problems with constipation during that time! Quite the opposite.
My P4 is pretty good altho it fluctuates wildly which is why I'm still on support after a donor cycle (ie no corpus luteum to produce p4).
I've had the occasional normal brown discharge from the crinone irritating my cervix but this is now fresh red albeit just spotting.
I get my P4 next tested on Monday. But Im sure it's fine.
I'm pretty sure this spotting is irritation, from bumping scraping of a pretty raw area.

Hi hun. Sorry you're up so early - I guess the 4am shuffle is still happening?
I don't know if my experience of Crinone/pessaries will help, but on each time that I used them (2 times using Crinone, once using pessaries), I would have a trace amount of spotting (both brown and red) starting after about 4 or 5 days of using them. But I've never been on them long term, so I don't know what it would be like other than in the TWW.
I think it wouldn't be considered abnormal at all for progesterone supplements to to cause some red spotting, as one of the things it does is help increase the blood supply to your cervix, also makes it softer, which means it's more sensitive to trauma causing little blood vessels to rupture and bleed. If you had to be putting that many pessaries and crinone in, I'm sure it would be causing some irritation at some point.
I think some women are more sensitive/prone to spotting than others on the supplements. Can you speak to your FS about what he thinks?
As to not having as much room up there, that may be because of the weight of your uterus with growing bub is starting to change your pelvic floor now - which will in turn start restricting your bladder, vagina and rectum somewhat. It will get worse before it gets better, I'm afraid!
I had awful constipation during much of my pregnancy and I found what really helped me was Lactulose solution. I think it's sold under the brand name Lac Dol in Australia. Maybe worth a look into? One positive I took from the constipation was that at least I knew that progesterone was doing it's thing in my pregnancy - it's definitely a side effect of progesterone!
Thinking of you, and hope that the spotting disappears and that the weaning off the supps goes okay (I mean emotionally and mentally). I'm here all the time

You have given me a lot more ideas/reasons which all make sense. LOL about my vagina only going to have more pressure in months to come. Just as well DH and I aren't interested in DTD right now with me feeling ucky and he with glandular fever
I agree about the constipation being a positive (emotional) sign that P4 is in good levels. I took some natural fruit laxative last night and it is starting to get things moving.
I may ring my Ob or FS later today but I am sure they will just confirm what I am thinking, so I will keep an eye on it today. Trying to keep quiet and calm at work.
I was wondering if anyone knows how you can bleed in pg if there is a mucus plug blocking up the cervix? Does this indicate that it is just coming from the cervix/vagina?
Hi Dusty,
When i was on the crinnone, i would get clumps of white when i went to the toilet, sometimes it was pink and othertimes it was a bit of brown in there too. I was worried, but the doctor said it was normal. I have just changed to the pessaries now and the first day or so there was some tiny brown dots coming out, but that is gone now.
Just wanted to second what the other girls have said in regards to irritation... there's a whole lot of P4 going on in there, & chances are your body is probably just a little over it
What Acacia has said in regards to everything moving around etc is something I was going to mention as well!
As far as other types of bleeding goes - you can get spotting or even heavier bleeding if the placenta is lying low... they'll look at that next scan (you would have your nuchal coming up in the next week or two) & be able to tell you if that would be a factor.
Otherwise though, I'm thinking its just a little irritation... a massive amount of p4 almost 12 weeks into the pregnancy is a lot hun xxxx
