OMG girls you will not believe this...
That friend of mine that had a baby girl yesterday, she has totally gone and given her daughter the same name we had chosen for a girl!
Granted it's spelt differently and a different middle name, and I never told her what we'd picked so it is PURELY coincidence but man I am soooo disappointed! I picked the name becasue it was rare and I didn't know ANYONE with it! I have loved this name for about 10 years and we decided on it the first week we found out I was pg!
I know it's not a huge deal, and I probably should be worried about more important things, but it's just a real shock. All this time safe and about 12 weeks off it's taken! Sooo frustrating! We'll still use the name but I just really HATE the thought that people will think we copied it! :wall:
Ok rant over... I just had to get that out... sorry
-
That's a bugger when that happens BOC. We had both a boys and a girls name picked out the first time we fell preggas six years ago... Ethan for a boy and georgia for a girl. With all the intervening years before we have finally got to this point, my niece has had a boy called Ethans and Geoffs BFF had a girl (his goddaughter no less) and called her Georgia.....grrr...so we had to go back to the drawing board for names.
Saph, it is good to have an end date. We saw our obstetrician on Wednesday after a growth scan on the Tuesday and we are officially breeding an elephant! The scan at just under 32 weeks estimates his size to be 2.4kg or about 5lbs 5ozs already, putting him above the 95th percentile. So much for the growth restriction we were told to expect because of the low papp-a we had at our nuchal scan...LOL.
Anyways after much discussion with our OB we have jointly decided it would be best for both me and the baby healthwise to have a scheduled C- section so barring any complications in the meantime baby C will be making his entrance via the sunroof early in the AM of Feb 12th...spot on 38 weeks.
If anything arises in the meantime of course he will be out earlier...it all hinges on how my type 1 Diabetes behaves itself over the nex few weeks and if my BP goes up etc etc...so far so good, so fingers crossed all goes well. But boy it does feel good to now that there is a precise end date to plan towards, at least now Hubby can plan his long service leave more precisely and give his work appropriate notice and all that jazz.
And it has made me pull my finger and work through the list of things to buy and prepare that much faster so everything is ready for his arrival. Onbly have a small handful of small items to get now..mainly lotions and potions and am having trouble deciding on a good organic brand to go with for all that stuff.
-
Yeah it's a bugger, especially since we were so careful not to tell anyone our choices! So the poor thing has no idea and I can't even yell or get mad at her! I think that's the most frustrating part would be much better if I could LOL
-
Saph my mum's a teacher but so many of my friends are but on contract meaning no holiday pay etc. raw deal but you scored well done. Belly braces are hot and feel weird but very helpful :D
Paula, not sure re referal but GP can always fax it to your OB. (mine almost did due to me loosing mine)
BOC that really sux, especially since you didn't even share your names :shakehead:
Melbel I love your term "sunroof" would be so great to know the day. I bet that's a load off.
Sammy that sounds nice.
ATM little restless, pain is less but mind is still on full bore. I had my hair done today which was nice and my friend is coming down from NT tomorrow to spend my birthday. :) but I still have so much "guilt" rattleing around in my head. I want a brain vacume!
-
Hello all. I hope you are well. BOC - how bloody irritating! That is truly exasperating. I'd never even thought of that... I suppose there is one benefit to having a baby later than all my friends!
Long q for your all. My DH is here on a project setting up a aus division for a UK company. Our time is sadly I think coming to an end - which I'm sad about even though I knew it would always happen - and the initial date was July, which so is not happening! Maybe September or something. Anyway, it looks like the next place we'll be sent to is India, which is both scary and exciting. However, I have very firmly said that it's not a place I would consider moving to unless I'd seen it, as travellers seem to either love it or hate it, and it's quite a big gamble. So I need to go for a week, and my conditions are business class flights and a five star hotel that doesn't serve up food poisioning, and a number of an english speaking (and western trained if I'm honest, sorry if this sounds imperialistic or worse) doctor/ hospital on speed dial. I would not go in the first trimester, cannot go in the third, so have plumped for end of month 5 when I figured this "exhilaration" all the books talk about would keep me ok.
My flight to Perth demonstrated that loose trousers are essential. I had the worst trapped wind (sorry, tmi) and wondered if anyone knew can you take those windeze (or similar brand) tablets? Also, any other advice, bearing in mind that I need to go, and will be as careful as possible? It won't be too hot then, and I'll have a driver with aircon, so I won't be going on any metros or anything. My stomach is well adapted to curry so no problems there (......hopefully). Any advice from those who have done international travel at this stage would be gratefully recieved. Thanks.
and have a lovely sunday. Scan tomorrow, but then worse, back to work. :shakehead:

London Miss...the best thing I have found for the wind, which will get worse as the pregnancy proegresses is fruit tingles. They seem to have the right amount of bicarb or whatever in them to get the burps happening without bloating you up like fizzy drink can...also wheat packs on the area where the wind is trapped if it gets in the kidneys type thing.....so my advice woule be to get some of those self heating heat packs to go in your cabinbag as planes dont have microwaves...you know the ones where you click the disc and they heat up and try the fruit tingles before you go...see if they work for you, if so....pack a truckload of them!! But dont eat more than one pack at a sitting cos it will defeat the purpose and give you more wind than you started with.....LOL.
oh and at 5 months on a plane you may need to think of compression socks but ask your doc about that one for sure....
-
Melbel- i have to laugh we are having a growth scan because of low pappa results as well. Saw my Ob on Wed so at 32.5 weeks and she estimated that he is about the size of 36 weeks. Hence why I am being induced early.

Hey girls,
Hows everyone doing? I've been MIA again and have missed heaps (damn useless internet) anyway hopefully i'm back for good this time!
Hope everyone is doing well not long left now cant wait to be belly free with baby!!!
Everyon take care, am looking forward to all the new arrivals popping out!

Hello all. Just broken my own no googling rule, and have been googling "what to expect at a 12 week scan" and have just read a site where it says that if they have new kit, they can tell you 70-80% certainty what gender it is. Surely this is nonsense? I'm panicking now cos I'm going with a friend, DH has some important yet boring meeting and can't come. I'd hate to find out without him. any thoughts?
ps, thanks for the tingles tip. I'm going on a hunt for them tomorrow! Eating sweets again is one of the best things about pregnancy. It seems a chupa choops (sp?) was one of the easiest ways to stop my MS... it's stopped now, but no need to point this fact out to DH as I'm still eating the lollies :)
-
It is easy just tell them you dont want to know gender and they wont tell you.

Afternoon ladies,
I have to admit to some serious lurking :hide: during the last few weeks for a number of reasons, though I have been reading and keeping up with what everyone is doing.
Number one and two lurking reasons - we were living at my parents until our new rental property was available, and without a computer and we moved the week of Christmas! A busy time but we're all settled in now and so relieved to be out of a shoebox apartment and back into a house. I still can't convince DH we need to buy a new computer so we've borrowed an old laptop of my parents'. Only trouble we've had so far is TERRIBLE internet connection! It drops out all the time so we basically haven't been able to use the net at home.
Number three lurking reason, and probably the biggest - we had our nuchal scan 16 December at 12w2d, and our first OB appointment 2 days later. She didn't have our full results, but she was concerned about our measurement, though she said my bloods were fine. She talked about risks of heart defects etc., and rang another specialist imaging clinic who said they wouldn't want to see us based on our results, but she still said our measurement (2.7mm calculated at 13w0d - don't know how that happens - we know our dates from IVF so i'm guessing it's a big fat baby in there!) was in the grey area. So basically i've been calling since then to get our results and they just haven't been available and so since then i've been worried and scared that something is wrong and just haven't been able to relax. Finally got our results back today and everything is fine. I felt so relieved that I promptly burst into tears!!!
Anyway, so that's been me over the last few weeks. As I said, I have been keeping up with everyone but i'm so so so far behind that i'm not going to do any personals today, you'll have to make do with my good wishes for all.
I do have a question for you, and I know i'm getting way ahead of myself but thought i'd ask anyway: DH's brother is getting married in Canada on 1 October so we'll be heading over in September. Is it okay/madness/something else entirely to travel with a (maximum of) 10 week old baby? I must admit i've been thinking about capsules and prams etc., but not about if it's actually okay to take a baby that small on a plane! Has anyone else done it or know someone who has?
Hope you're all well and I haven't bored you with my last few weeks :)

Lise - we are flying when our baby will be exactly 10 weeks old. We first took DS on a plane when he was 4 months old. It is so much easier when they are little they dont know anything. One suggestion is to either feed baby (Can be difficult because they are strapped to you) or give them a bottle of water with the smallest teat as it makes them suck hard and helps pop their ears. DS was 2.5 the last time we flew and we still gave him a bottle. Hope this helps.
-
Hey Lise. Was wondering where you had got to! So glad to hear your scan was ok - although how rubbish not to have someone available to put your mind at rest. I had the 12 week scan today and everything was wonderful too. Everything just right, although the leg measurement came up a little small, but the lady assures me this was because it was kicking so much that she couldn't get a good measurement! (I'm very short)
Every single flight I've taken to and from the UK, I've been sat near a person with a baby and from my experience, babies are fine on flights, it's when they are about 1 year old they are a pain... too young to understand that seatbelts are a requirement not of evil parents but the law, too young to distract with tv and so on. But babies, they've all been just fine in my experience. As Saph says, they've woken up and cried but only till they got some milk. I've sat next to far more disruptive and noisy adults on flights....

Londonmiss if there are foods that make you more gassy I'd avoid them and the stretchy pants sound good to me.
Melbel, will have to try fruit tingles
Hi Ella'sMum all pg here how bout you?
lise my brother traveled with a 9 month old from canada. I think the smaller the baby the easier and at 10 weeks you should have an idea of what keeps bubba happy and not. Also with breast/bottle you should feed when taking off and landing, this helps with ear pressure for bubba. Hope you're doing ok.
Bit quiet in here, hope all MIA's are ok. My Birthday is over for another year and this year it was just exhausting.
My belly pain is now really strong and couple that with very bad period type pain I am finding it hard to be comfortable. I drove tot he airport today and could hardly get out of the car. DH came to help with my stuff and I was a little abrupt but I'm no good at this helpless female stuff.
I rang my boss and now will finish work this week. :D I feel like a big load is off. My assistant called today for some non interesting reason and I found myself really not caring at all. "who calls their boss on the birthday and their RDO" really. I think that and the pain were the big signs for me. My time is up.
Didn't want to use my sick leave but better to use it now and have money.
So only 3 days of work to go ladies  (with old lady noises) :D

Paula - if you can't get to your GP, ask your FS to write one just to get you through your first couple of appointments. Specialist referrals only last for 3 months whereas GP referrals last for 12 months. But at least it would mean that they would see you for your first appointment and then you can sort out the GP referral in your own time.
Hello and happy new year to all you lovely mummies to be - do you all realise that this is the year that you will be holding your precious bundles in your arms?
Hope you are all well - I have to run as Jasmine is waking, but I am always lurking checking how you are all going.

Hi girls.Hope everyone had a great new years.I went out to a restaurant and managed to stay awake til 1 am.I sipped on orange juice all night and was very picky with all of the foods that were being brought around. Most were with soft cheese, raw salmon etc but i managed to get hubby to grab a few handuls of things i could eat before they were all gone! Hehehe.
Yesterday,my son was having a devon sandwich with tomato sauce and it looked so good,so you know what i had?.... a tomato sauce sandwich! I just pretended the meat was on it.Wasnt too bad either. :)
I am now just waiting for my first antenatal appointment now.I too, need to go and get a referral. Its strange that i need one when my fertility specialist is who i have been seeing, will be the ob/gyn too,yet i have to see my gp? Ah well.I better get my bum into gear and go and get one.
Well not much else to report from me.I will be 10 weeks tomorrow and and find that the tiredness has eased slightly.I have had a few days recently where i have been very nauseated.Food just makes me lose any tiny appetite that i did have.I can only eat fruit, cereal and then maybe dinner.Lastnight i had a chocolate nut sundae....mmmmmm.Now THAT,went down nicely.:)
Hoping all is well with everyone.I have been popping in,reading everyones updates but by the time i get typing,i have forgotten who wrote what! I forgot my pin the other day and ive had the same one for 16 years! Im getting really forgetful and stupid. So im sorry there are no personals.Hopefully next time.
Love Alicia.x

LondonMiss thats wonderful that all was well at your scan. I cant wait for my next scan.
Thanks Janie, my GP ended up opening up yesterday after all. Although it wasnt my GP, they had a fill in, i still got the referral and feel very relieved today. My FS is off till the 11th of Jan too so i would have been stuck as i didnt want to go to a random Dr.
Really excited for my appointment today. Mainly because not sure what to expect plus the fact that ive never seen my Ob. Ive heard a million and one wonderful things and have had lots and lots of people i know use him but havent actually ever met or even seen what he looks like. Hope all goes well. I have been warned that he doesnt have much of a personality, that he is an older man, but he is wonderful at what he does which is the main thing i guess.
This thread has been rather quiet. I wonder how everyone that is getting close to their due date is going?

Green i am so glad you have finally pulled the pin on work. You deserve some rest.
