In midwifery terms, we say if the heart rate is between 110 - 160 all is fine. Just remember that bubs is just like you and me. When he is active his hb will accelerate (can go up to 180 bpm without worry, so long as it is variable - that is it goes up and down and doesn't stay on the same rate for a long time) and when he is sleeping (which they do in 20 minute cycles for up to forty minutes), his heart rate declines. 156bpm is perfect for an active baby.
Also, the younger the baby the faster the hb. This is because the nervous system is immature and the heart fires off alot faster in the first 28 weeks than after, when the baby is alot more mature all around.
Hugs girl, your gp is kind to offer to have you in everyday but she needs to have her info right so that you are not a ball of stress by the end of it all.
