WW, the fact that you're already worried or questioning whether you are going to be a good mum to your bub already makes you a good mum as far as I'm concerned. I've done the same; worrying if I am going to be a good mum to two, but at the end of the day as long as we try our best that is all we can do. You will be a great mum, don't worry. Glad to hear your 12-week scan went well.

Glad I wasn't the only one having problems with BB. One day I wrote a big long one then lost it, don't you hate it when that happens.

Brunette - those naughtly babies! Do you think it is aimed at you or are they actually arguing with each other? Maybe they are trying to assert their dominance on each other before they come out. I am imagining them in the car in a few years time... 'Mum, so and so hit me!' I hope they settle down soon, but it is probably unlikely you poor thing. When do you go back to the OB? Hoping the next US is more reassuring for you with the PP. And what is an 'avvy' I haven't figured it out yet.

Worry wart, I get you with the gender thing. I always imagined myself having lots of girls. With #2 I was pretty certain that I was having a girl, and when HE came out I was quite surprised. It took me a few minutes to digest but seriously, when that bub comes out the feelings you have for them they could be an alien and you would still love them instantly. You will bond with your little girl and when you see her you will probably wonder what you were worried about. This time is tricky for us, as we have one of each we are happy either way, but DD really wants a little sister and is convinced the baby is a girl. So for her sake I am hoping its a girl, but then I feel very guilty thinking that. So you are not alone worrying about this..

As for the parenting thing, believe me if you are worried about whether you will be a good parent or not - you will be. People who are 'bad' parents don't think about things like that. Just do what you can, and be forgiving to yourself as no one is perfect. You will be great, have faith.

AFM - we are going to the coast this weekend, the in laws are having the kids for two whole nights and we are staying at a hotel. Only the second time since having kids we have been away from them, and the first time was one night for an engagement party so didn't have time to ourselves. I am planning on sleeping in, and just doing nothing!

Brunette - maybe the plus side to having to put up with the double kicks is that they'll be so crowded in there soon, they won't be able to "pack a punch", so to speak?! Fingers crossed at any rate.

Jaki - yay for the 12 week scan! My DH sat there through the whole thing saying "holy sh*t!" repeatedly (how classy, who knows what the sonographer thought of us :redface:) because it just blows you away, all the detail.

Worrywart - sweetie, its no wonder you are feeling anxious about a girl, with how you grew up. Its mainly a matter of what you're used to, though, you haven't spent much time around girls by the sounds. As everyone else says too, you're going to be a fantastic mum because a) you are conscious of your role as a parent, and b) you've fought damn hard for this baby! When and if the time comes that you have a daughter, you'll find your way. Don't forget there are lots of resources out there to help us new mums too - books, classes, people to talk to etc.

AFM - all good here, I'm listening to the neighbour across the road with her 6 kids (the youngest 2 are twins) playing/fighting/screaming in their front yard, and just enjoying the peace and quiet in my house! :lol: I've really popped out over the last couple of weeks, but strangely its on one side more than the other? :o Went to a party on Saturday night, and EVERYONE patted my tummy, it seemed. I took great delight in telling them they were just patting my stomach/dinner, and that the baby was further down... I'm so mean! :D

Lol, I'm the same! I've only had a couple of people put their hands on my belly, but both of them did it up high so I told them it was just my flab they were patting... ;)

Leabie, my stomach feels so tight that already with all the growing and stretching that has been going on. Hopefully (but also scarily) there are plenty more weeks yet to go. I am going to be huge! I feel like I am carrying low, which is kind of good because I haven't been getting too much indigestion and only recently been getting kicking under the ribs. Love how you observe the madness and chaos of your neighbour's 6 children from the solitude of your home! Why do people keep touching pregnant women's stomachs? I havent' had it happen too many times to me thank god.

Maggie, as Leabie said, an avvy is an avatar. Enjoy your weekend with your DH. You deserve it as you two haven't been alone for ages!

Leabie - I get it constantly at school all day from many grubby little hands, i even had a mother the other day come straight up and rub my stomach who then said God it hated it when people did that to me!! Well you didn't give me a chance to say hands off lady!!!

Brunette - I hear you on the low kicks but not the high ones yet, I guess one has to go up and one has to go down!! Very cute:D

Maggiepie - Have a great weekend away just you and DH. Enjoy the "alone time"!!

WW - You will be a fabulous mum, like the others have said just by thinking that already shows that you are more than ready. Many people have a preference as to what sex they would like, but at the end of the day when your baby arrives you won't even care about that fact and just be overjoyed he/she has come into your life. Sorry that was very Dr Phil.

Jaki - Yay on 12 wk scan. My 12 wk 3D pics were better than the 20 wk ones cause b8ub can fit on the entire screen and we got some great ones. 20 wk ones were just of the head and not as clear.

Glad to be back on BB, thought i was going crazy for awhile. Bub is going nuts lately and i think i am starting to get cankles come the end of the day especially after work.

LOL Leabie, thats funny. My DH kept repeating, 'is he ok, so everything is there, its all normal?' I was like, give her a chance!!!!

On the touching tummy thing, i am showing very early and i am very big! So all the people i work with are constantly touching it! And i kind of dont mind but im like, your touching a layer of fat, even tho it nice and round ;)

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments! The feeling has passed thank goodness, and I'm just excited again. Last night we were going over names for boys and girls and I suddenly felt that anxiety lift and was just so happy to be having a new person coming along!

My bro and SIL found out that they are having a little girl. So if we do have a little girl, it will 100 per cent girls on both sides of the family (on the grandchild level).

WW, that's sweet that your little bub might have a female cousin around the same age to play with. My first cousin's wife is pregnant with their first child. They're overseas ATM so not sure exactly how far along she is, but I was thinking it will be nice at Xmas and family gatherings to have another relative with a child of similar age for our twins to play with. Glad to hear you're feeling less anxious about being a mum. Totally understandable, esp for first-time mums and I'm sure we've all been there. I know I have :)

Renee, damn those cankles. I'm getting used to the sore feet and slight swelling in my ankles, but it's this godawful pins and needles I've been getting since a week ago in my right hand only that is doing my head in. It's numb during the night and wakes me up and I have to move position, and even during the day it's horrible tingling - even now as I type it's tingling away. I just hate it. It's carpet tunnel according to a physio who did a cameo appearance at our antenatal class today. How's that woman's form putting her hand on your stomach when she hated others doing it to her when PG. Honestly, some people!

I will be MIA for a week or so as my grandfather passed away over the weekend. I will be in Sydney for the rest of the week.
Good Luck to everyone who is having scans or tests done this week. Hopefully i will be able to catch up on the goss when i get back.

Renee, so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I hope the week goes as well as it possibly can. Try and get some rest, it will probably be really busy and obviously emotionally draining.


Brunette and Leabie - thats for the avvy translation! Brunette, did the physio mention that wrist splints can help the carpal tunnel? They will help to keep the wrists straight at night and prevent flexion which makes it worse. Any physio practice will have them and they are usually quite successful.

On the tummy thing, I am a bit funny about people touching me at the moment as I am only 14 weeks so not really that big in the scheme of things and have lots more fat than I did for #1 & #2. So I just feel like they're grabbing fat! Luckily it's only my sister etc who have done that so it doesn't really matter. I hate it when randoms go for a grab though, this time I am determined that I will just rub their tummies back and see how they like it. I mean, what is it about a pregnant belly that means open slather??? With #1 I remember having this random lady in the shopping queue just come up and rub my belly.

Our weekend away was such bliss. Although couldn't sleep in, was nice to lay in bed, sit around reading, go for slow walks on the beach etc. And we had some great food each day (eg Indian and Spanish which we would never take the kids to). Two nights was enough though, was missing kids by then and happy to pick them up. Now just have to unpack everything... Would highly recommend to everyone with kids that they get away at least once a year to have some couple time. We have a strong relationship but felt like the weekend has sent us back to honeymoon mode!!! Have booked the in laws in again for next year, will obviously take bub as will still be breastfeeding but am sure it will be just as good.

Just wanted to quickly pop in and say how sorry I am to hear about your grandfather, Renee. Our grandparents are such an important part of our lives, it's such a sad loss, but he will always be with you :)

Hi to all you lovely ladies - I'm laying low yet again because I have cold number #5 for this pregnancy......hopefully (she says!) I will be back on track by the beginning of next week and back into the marital bed because my coughing keeps my poor DH awake (he offered to sleep on the couch but I actually enjoy sleeping on our couches as they are so comfy!).

Am feeling so ill and tired today. To boot I have a terrible backache which had me on the verge of thinking I had 'flu symptoms' and needing to rush to emergency in case of listeria. So all in all its been a bit crap. Sorry for the stuck out bottom lip.

Maggie, yes the physio mentioned splints for carpal tunnel and I picked one up on Saturday straight after antenatal. I only need one because it's only my right hand/wrist that is affected. It has really made a difference. I've also heard acupuncture helps so I might see if I can get in this week. I had a good laugh at you rubbing random strangers' tummies in return for just touching yours without asking! Classic - I love it and I think it will work :) It is nice to get away with just your partner, isn't it? While these babies will be my first, my partner has three children from his first marriage and I know how much I appreciate our time together. No doubt that will be harder in a couple of months time! So must plan to rope in my mum for some alone time, even if it's just one night for dinner to start with while the babies are little.

Gosh Lairdoz, you have had a bad run with colds this PG. Take it easy, drink plenty of fluids, get some vitamin C and zinc into you ... no doubt all the things you know about and are doing :) I find that taking Berocca Performance a couple of times a day is really beneficial.

Question for those who have had heartburn/indigestion before: what is safe to take and what is effective? I have only had a mild case a few times, usually after eating, but I got it this morning in bed before having breakfast and I figure it will be a regular occurrence now that the twins are pushing my internal organs upwards!

Brunette, on the heartburn thing, I know that Rennie's and Quickease are ok. Not sure about other brands but there are some which aren't ok so maybe ask the pharmacist when you get them.

Lairdoz, hope the cold settles soon. I am just starting to get over my sinus infection which has hung around for 14 weeks so I feel your frustration. Just try and take it easy.

Melly Belly, hope you are feeling better soon too, rest up.

I went for my Dr's appointment today, got to hear the heartbeat on the dopper, all good. Risk of downs syndrome etc was very low 1/15000 for scan and 1/50000 when combined with blood test. These are lower risk than for my other kids (not that they were high) so feeling really good about that. Well must get to work, lots booked in this afternoon...
