I'm waiting on blood tests to see if I go back on the heparin - resisting at the moment as I figure that if this little one is strong enought to stick, then fingers crossed it's strong enough to stay put for 9mths with only minimal help (aspirin)! Its all exciting but a little bit scary as well...

Albi and Farmgirl - congratulations and welcome to the thread.
I too will be eagerly awaiting to hear Kelly's good news today. I can't believe how well she has done to keep those bubs inside so long when they are both such a good size. I can't imagine how difficult these last few weeks must have been for her with being so huge and still having a toddler to look after as well.
Anyone on here who has had a caesarian I was wondering if you could tell me:
1) how long off work did your partner have afterwards to help you? or did you have other family come and help?
2) how long before you were "allowed" to pick the baby up after your surgery?
3) how long did it take for you to start feeling "normal" again?
The reason I ask is because a family friend is having her c-section late June and she has told her MIL (who is our friend) that she won't be able to pick the baby up for "weeks and weeks" after the surgery so that is why her parents are coming to stay for a few months. She has claimed she won't be able to do "anything" for a "long time" after the surgery (no fixed timeline given). Our friend has offered to help out but her daughter-in-law has said no.
Anyway I don't personally (in real life) know any one who had a c-section. I know one woman via the Internet who had an emergency C-section with her son and she is a single mum. I told my mum as far as I remember (as her son is now 3yrs old) she did move home with her mum for a week after surgery but was then on her on again doing everything herself... but maybe that is unusual? The only side-effect if you can call it that, is that she did suffer very bad PND for a long time. I might email her and confirm that my memories are correct.
The mother-to-be does not have any other kids and has no other health problems and it is a single baby. She is 38yrs old - if that makes a difference.

Bub due 28th Aug. I have my new heater installed now so bub will have a warm home.
lori, i'm pretty sure the 'rule' is to not lift anything heavier than your bub but i didn't have a c sect with ds. I have had a large tumour removed from my ovary so had a c-sect-like operation and it took me a full 8 weeks to recover properly.. but i don't do well wth anasethtic and that was part of it. I know after a csect you are not allowed to drive for 6 weeks, hang the washing out (stretching) and that sort of thing. You just need to take it easy but everyone heals differently.

My OB said do not lift anything heavier than the baby. First day after Csection you can't move much, but I was on my feet and moving around well by day 2. I didn't really feel like I couldn't do anything by the time I left hospital. Though I did on purpose not lift wet laundry in the laundry basket, didn't do the vacuming for a few week etc. I found by about week 6 I had pain again as I think I had overdone it and jumped up out of bed too quickly a few times. All I have to say is your poor friend who thinks she won't be able to pick her baby up. I think she will learn quick smart, and also wonder how long her parents will last in her house, I know I really wanted a break and time to myself with my girls.

Hi girls just a quick one for me a bit under the weather at the moment.

Lori - I had an elective c-section with DS. My DH took the day of the c-section off and then was back at work. I spent 6 nights in hospi then was at home on my own. Unfortunately it was all the time DH could get off. My mum came occasionally to hang out with me but mostly I was on my own. I coped.
I could drive after 2 weeks. The 6 weeks is what most docs say but my doc said 2 - as long as I could lift and move my feet quickly - ie react properly then I was fine to drive. This was sufficient for insurance.
I think I was picking up DS by maybe day 2? You kind of have to to be able to feed it etc. Certainly by the time I left hospital I was completely mobile and had no probs lifting him comfortably.
I reckon I felt normal again after say two weeks. Sure, it's major surgery but I was surprised how well I recovered. I guess it depends on your pain threshhold (I have a pretty high tolerance to pain) and also I believe emergency c-sections dont recover as well as elective, so that could explain why some women have a really hard time.
I dont think c-sections would typically cause PND, well not for me anyway - I think the bigger thing is the support that you have around you. I suffered because my DH was working ridiulous hours, I had a reflux baby and was completely isolated. The c-section had very little to do with it. I have told DH he just has to take more time off with this one as while I'll be able to cope with new bub I will struggle for the first week or so with a new bub and a crazy 2 year old!

Re post Caesarian care.. I'm a midwife so know abut but not from personal experience :)
Most hubby's try to be home first week post caesarian. You can pick up your baby the day after your surgery. You will be up and about day 1. We recommend no heavy lifting and no house work for 4-6 weeks that includes picking up older children. Also no driving for 6 weeks. Most women are feeling relatively normal by going home, 5 days after caesarian. You will usually only need to go home on panadol and voltaren.

afm: well had flu shot this morn. ouch !?:protest: but they said on radio it is really important for preg women to get flu shot.
also gave bloods for the thousands of tests i need now i am preggers. 4 vials and i have low bp so it takes ages. lol

Huge congratluations to our friend Kelly her DH and little one, Tara on the arrival of their newest family members. The girls are outnumbered now!!!
She's done such an amazing job to carry these two most special babies to great healthy weights, and I've been sssooo in awe of her this whole time and wish Kelly and her family a cruisy journey from now on!!!!

AFM bloods came back , 372 so over doubled, yay! Yay! So officially pregnant!!! Early pregnancy scan booked for 27 may so will still be nervous until I see HB :)

afm - not feeling great, had a bit of spotting this morning :crying: Rang the clinic in tears, had a blood test, and now waiting... Really hoping it's nothing, but I'm 8 weeks today, haven't had any symptoms so far, and the last couple of days I've had heaps of pimples appear - I normally get one or two just before af, so that's adding to my worry. Anyone else had similar? :pray: let it be nothing

Kass, I've been told spotting is quite common so hopefully it's all okay. I had a major bleed at 7.5weeks (lost 2 measuring cups of blood - 2 bleeds of around a cup each 12 hours apart). I was told then that spotting was common but losing that much blood was a major concern. In fact I was told the baby was dead... however a scan 24 hours later showed bub was still alive. though I was told it was still a high risk of losing it over the next few days due to the amount of blood I had lost. Luckily this little one is a fighter and has hung in there.
Fingers crossed all is okay.
AFM: I had a job interview today and start a new job on Friday. I will be looking after a young boy with Aspergers. It will be 3 days a week to start with (for 2 weeks) and might then reduce depending on the mother's work. She knows I'm pregnant and will be leaving mid to late July (depending on how healthy I am). Atleast this will give me a chance to get a bit more money saved for bub and the boy seems ok. He is quite high functioning and I will be assisting with his homeschooling.

Thanks JBM, Bugsmum and dreamrise. I'm feeling a bit better now. It was pretty mild really, more pinkish crinone than anything else - dr your experience certainly puts it into perspective! Test came back all ok. Progesterone is still really high (over 500) so I don't know what caused it. I'm going to have another scan on Fri, hopefully no more scares between now and then!

Kass I also had spotting for about a week when i was 5 or 6 weeks preg, really light and only came out with the crinone then when i swapped too pessaries it stopped?? so think it was the crinone just irritating things?

Thanks for your support Ladies, Grub DS sounds cute! My 2 girls are desperate for a baby brother or sister and it broke my heart when they kept asking for one when we were on ivf and having miscarriages (not that they knew). But now DH is worried if I tell them they won't understand how far away it is and ask about it every day/minute. DD2 is like a broken record at the moment (a very cute broken record) but am hoping to tell them at the end of May.
Marcellus - Thankyou, I checked dr google (has asked my midwives and FS and OB before but they never say much) and apparently PCOS can affect breastmilk, either normal production, way too much, or way too little. I guess I can't help if it happens again, but often felt like other mummies thought I just wasn't trying hard enough or persevering enough. Have seen the lacation consultant several times, she was so lovely and helpful. I think I've tried everything drugs, herbs, expressing often, heat packs, feeding often, skin to skin while feeding, drinking heaps of water, but couldn't build up a big enough supply! My breasts are quite small and didn't change much during pregnancy and it says lack of breast tissue dev effects it too.
DR - I think everyone gave really good post c-section advice, I have had 2 so far. Goodluck with your new job.

Had my ob appointment. Ob is please with bubs growth and fluid etc. He asked when do you think this one will come. He thinks 38 weeks, well thats his bet. He said you will give eviction orders after all you have been through. I will see him in 2 weeks time I have to have the GD test on the Monday and then see him on the Thursday to get my anti D injection.

Ladies how far along were you when you felt your babies move or kick? Iv had a few moments where iv thought the baby just kicked me but not 100% sure, i know some ppl dont feel it till 20 weeks but im starting to worry (i know silly) its just some of my friends at work felt it as early as 15 or 17 weeks?
oneday with my dd I would say I didnt realise until about 20 weeks this time it was earlier but thats because I was more aware of what it felt like.
Kicks... well I'm 25 weeks on Monday and still haven't felt any actual kicks (I'm pretty sure I had by this stage with my daughter). I've felt some movement... like flutteriing down low but so light that I can't feel it on the outside and I only started feeling that about 2 weeks ago. I can't remember with my daughter what stage I felt it on the outside but I'm pretty sure by around 28 weeks you could physically see it (see my stomach moving) as she was constantly kicking me - especially during some of my boring lectures (I was a fulltime postgrad student when I was pregnant with her).

oneday with ds it was 17 weeks. with this one, despite assertions i'd feel it earlier, it wasn't til about 21 weeks :)
it also depends on where the placenta has attached and which way bub is facing.
maybe something like a doppler might help allay your fears so you can listen to the hb anytime you want to 'check' iykwim.

Thanks ladies :) wierdly enough that very day i posted i was just sitting around all day as iv got the cold, i had my hand on my belly and i felt bub kick right where my hand was and alot that day after but today iv only felt that same movement down ther once? but i did read in up the duff that when we are walking around it puts bub to sleep and bub moves most at night when we are asleep, and today i was out and about with DH so maybe thats why i havnt noticed it much today? but it was the best ever yesterday and there was no mistaking thats what it was! i really want a doppler i just know i will stress if i cant find the hb??

oneday - I've only just started getting regular, definite kicks. As you might remember I was always in here stressing that I hadn't felt anything for ages. I think my little one liked to sit down really low, facing the back and kick where I coulldn't feel it. Just saying so that you might not stress as much as me if you don't feel it very regularly for a while. Even now, this baby doesn't move anywhere near as much as DS did. This one just ain't a mover and a shaker.
Possums - you're not still on holidays are you? Getting very jealous now!
New pregnancy symptom - well, maybe not - I've got this kind of rash on the right side of my belly - not the bit that's getting stretched, it's kind of the love-handle side bit IYKWIM. Anyone heard of this? Don't think it's anything serious because I don't feel sick in any way (other than sick of having so much to do - I need a rest!). S'pose I'd better go ask the doc anyway - I hate being a paranoid preggy though - going there for something that's not even anything worth worrying about. Anyway, rambling now. DS is alseep and DH is at work, I think now might be MY time to chill. Goodnight ladies, xoxo

dh is away this week, so that doesn't help with the tiredness and runnign after a very active 17month old.
only 2.5 weeks and i'm 37 weeks and good to safely have my bubba!!!! I sooo hope i go early as i'm over it. but trying to cherish this feeling of being preg cos DH reckons he's done :( even though we have one embie left which i'd like to use.... in 3 yrs time tho lol.
ugh off to put my fat swollen feet up and eat some icecream.

I'm zonked. Read all the post but like grub I have a date, mines with chocolate. I have been busy cleaning and weeding this weekend. I think now my HG finally has settled I have the new lease on life to get things done. Only problem is I feel like I have been in squat competition my legs are killing me.
Hi everyone, just hanging on the lounge, have worked my way through half a block of chocolate :). And DH says 'is that good for the baby?'. Big grin! We had our scan today, after a full minute freaking out after OB measures sac at 5 weeks, and I can see nothing inside thinking another blighted ovum, he pokes around a bit more and finds the fetal pole measuring 5w5d (I think I am 5w6d so close enough) and a little heart beating away!! So YAY so far so good. We have another scan on the 26 the we are off to Europe for 4 weeks, so hopefully I won't have much to to think/dwell/stress too much.
Sorry for the me post, will do persies when not on my phone. Xx

dh is away atm and DS knows it so is being a bit of a toad, and exhausting me :( home on thursday arvo and he'll be on full on toddler duty that night. My belly is so big now (120cm round! which is what it was at full term with DS aarrgghh) that its uncomfy to have DS on my lap.
