Hi Everyone,
Trishy, I haven't done my tax return yet. I'm hoping I'll get a bit back as I had 2 full cycles and 1 frozen cycle in this financial year. My income also changed alot and with having my rental property I'm hoping that I'll get a bit back. It would be great to get enough back to pay off the last of my IVF loan (I think I owe around $3000 still).
Everytime I have tried to use the Centrelink online estimator to work out whether paid parental leave or the baby bonus would be better for me, it kicks me off half way through. I think the baby bonus will end up being better (I think parental leave will end up only be around $1000 in total more due to it being taxable and not being able to get family tax benefit etc) and then if the perfect job comes up before bub is 18 weeks old I will be free to apply for it. But it would be nice if Centrelink could actually make it clearer how much I could get.
My daughter (who turns 15 in Dec) asked me how old she was when I went back to work (I worked up until 3 weeks before her first due date - though she came late) and when I told her I went back to work (only 2 x 4 hour shifts a week) when she was 5 weeks old, she told me she felt "ripped off". I had explained that babies can't go into paid childcare until they are 6 weeks old but my parents looked after her while I was at work. My daughter asked me how long I was going to stay home with this baby and when I said it depends on what jobs become availabe she told me that she thinks to be fair I need to go back to work when it is 5 weeks old! Isn't it funny how sibling rivalry can kick in already (even before the sibling has been born and even with such a big age gap!) I tried to explain to her that it is different now as I can't get my parents to look after the baby for a few hours (since they live nearly 2 hours drive away) and I don't have a job waiting for me, but she didn't care. I'm not so bothered about when I actually go back to work so long as it's not many hours. I'd rather start earlier with a job with limited hours then be off work completely for a longer period of time but then have to go back to long hours again.
Anyway the conversation has reminded me how important it will be to make sure that everything appears "fair" between my daughter and the new baby! LOL

DR - that's pretty funny! I was just talking with a friend who is having her first child and I remembered how many more issues there were to deal with and how difficult it is when it's your first, but you've made me realise that it will probably be just as tricky this time - only the problems we encounter will be different. Bring it on!!!!
Possums - how are you going girl? Hanging in there still I hope!
Trishy - thanks for the tax reminder - would be nice to have that sorted before baby comes - oh well, I'll put it on the list and see how far I get. Did you feel ok when you were breastfeeding your DD? If so, can you just kind of make sure you are eating more than enough to make up for any you might lose? Maybe it's not that simple. I was connected to drips during my last labour - which is another reason I would so love to not be induced this time around. I mean, It's no big deal really, but every time you have to pee or move you have to take this damn thing with you. But, in the long run it's no biggy.
Oneday - so glad you are enjoying your pregnancy. Past the horrible fears of the first trimester.
Hi to everyone else - kass, JBM and everyone else!
AFM - not much happening. Still enjoying things, but think I am pretty ready and willing to go anytime now. I really don't think anything will happen for at least a couple of weeks. I am doing weekly acupuncture now to hopefully get things started before the hospital can attack me with induction drugs! I really have to try to remember to keep an open mind about things. I am thinking of taking up a friend's offer of being an extra or alternative support person for labour and birth. Who are you guys having with you?
-
kaybee: not long to go now. yeah for the acu, i hope it helps, i love acu it is so so good. it's prob good to have as much support as you think you need during the birth as men aka DH's sometimes are watching Tv, falling asleep, and sometimes generally not really helping much. lol....... my DH learnt after baby one to NOT do those things. ha ha ha. good luck to you. hope all goes well.
dreamrise: lol for the sibling rivalry..... I will have the opposite for me as I stopped work during preg of DS1 due to sickness and didn't go back to work til DS 3 was 3 years old. so i had a pretty big break but this time i will have to work most of the way thru, even if it is work from home. and i will prob have to go back to work within 6 weeks after baby, prob work from home after that a couple of days a week. :-(
good luck to you and i am sure your daughter will be fine once baby comes. x
oneday": yeha for counting down the final weeks before you finish work. not long to go.
trishy: I wish my weight would be like that, I just feel so so fat and since i got preg on a fresh cycle i still had the extra weight from egg collection on top of my weight. I am 4 kg heavier since pregnant and feel so so yuk about how i am looking. I don't know much about the tax stuff but i am sure i will get it organised eventually. lol. good luck toy ou
kass: counting down to friday for your scan, good luck to you. it'll be great to see baby again, they are so big at this scan and you can see so much but the full bladder thing after 45 minutes of pushing on your bladder is not good. lol. ha ha. hope all goes well. x
hi to you who i forgot >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
afm: well i finally have a date for my scan and it is exactly on the day i will be 20 weeks. fri 19 aug. so not lont to go. 3 weeks and 3 days but i am not counting down. ha ha ha.
i have a cold and have not been sleeping well. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. i have the day off at home today just to recover. i think i need it and DH said i needed it too, lol, so cute.
i have been so tired because of not good sleeping cause of blocked or runny nose. so i think i am going to go to bed very early tonight.
chat soon to all

JBM - hope you're feeling better soon! Yay for getting a date for your scan - not that you're counting down :) Do you really have to hold it in the whole time? Uncomfortable!
Kaybee - hope you're enjoying the acupuncture, and that it helps!
DR - lol! I'm sure your daughter will be fine once bubs arrives. Good luck getting the tax done - I haven't even attempted to start mine yet.
Oneday - Enjoy those last days of work :) Not long to go now!
Hi Trishy, possums, and everyone I've missed!
Still nothing new here, just waiting for my scan...
-
hi everyone, sorry for no personals, but just wanted to let you know that we are hanging in there and hoping our precious little boy can keep growing inside me a bit longer before he needs to arrive. I am having CTG monitoring twice a week to check his heartbeat/movements; had steroid injections this weekend to boost his lungs just in case he needs to arrive very soon; and another scan tomorrow... a call will then be made whether we keep going as is, or whether I need to be induced.
DH and I are doing all we can to be prepared and I am doing my best to stay calm and take things step at a time.
We know we are past the worst danger zone etc, it is still stressful though, because he won't just be an early baby, he will be smaller than usual and probably not as strong, due to the restricted growth (technically now we are classified as Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) - so different to just a bub who arrives a bit early). We aren't sure how much longer he'll need in hospital, how long he will need help feeding etc. So those things we do wonder about and have been told he could need to be in hospital for some weeks (hate the thought of having to go home without my baby, but it's good knowing medical care is so good now). And there is always the hope that he will be stronger than that too.
I also so hope the induction progresses and isn't too much for our little baby to handle...otherwise it will be a c-section. Anyway, day at a time!
Trying to do my meditations and still enjoy this last stretch of being pregnant, which has been such a beautiful journey.
sending you all the best and belly rubs
-
Hi girls just a quick one from me, Possums im glad things are still going ok and just taking it at one step at a time i think thats the best you can do! I have everything crossed for you that it all works out for the best in the end xxxx
DH and I started birthing classes last night :) we really enjoyed it and DH even said that he learnt alot he didnt know just in the one class and there is a few couples around our age so hopefully we can keep in touch! When we got there i was looking around at all the belly's thinking i must be one of the first due as i thought my belly looked bigger then most but as we went around the circle and introduced our selves and said our due dates im the last due lol so my belly must just be big :) not that i mind i love it :)
-
Possums - Thinking of you xx
Oneday - glad your class went well :)
-
possums: keep hanging on. all is o.k. good luck for the rest of the pregnant time. x x
hi to everyone.
just a quick one for me. I have had a hectic past day !
I started bleeding yesterday arvo, and even though it was only a small amount I had the typical pregnant woman emotional event !!
I had to go to emergency dept about 5 pm as the bleeding just didn't stop ?
had scans and tests, equipment stuck into me and all that yuk stuff. the AAE doctor couldn't tell if my cervix was open or not ( cause she didn't know what she was doin)
anyway i had to come back to the hospital preg assesment centre today and got checked out by the docs there.
all seems to be fine. I got to see baby, jumping aroung , waving, and moving heaps :bellyrubs:
so that was good and all seems to be fine but after a night of panic i feel exhausted.
the doc said it was commen for some small bleeding but if it increases or i start to get a lot of pain then i have to come back immediately.
it was so scary.
noe she wants me to have another app for a scan next friday then see the doc in a week after that. so i get another scan.
I am now back at work as we have someone going away for 5 weeks and i have 100 jobs to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so i am o.k and baby is o.k
:happydance:
-
You must have had such a stressful night - very relieved to hear everything is ok!
-
Kass: yes stressfull indeed !!. it's bad enough all the things us pregnant ladies worry about.
it appears that the blood is turning brown now which indicates old blood and has settled down too.
thank so much for your support. x x ;)
-
You poor thing JBM thats horrible i can only imagine how horribly scared you were!!! so glad it has settled down and i hope it clears up completely very soon xxxxx
-
JBM, so glad you and baby are ok!
afm- scan today showed our boy is still growing, so we could have another week now ...yay! was such a relief....and as the Ob said today's results could have been much worse....amniotic fluid still very low (and getting lower) but the further along we go the bigger and stronger he gets. His estimated weight now is 2kg...we are in the 9th percentile for size (so in the smallest 10%)...every week counts, fingers crossed from here.... we hear such a range of stories about small/growth restricted babies...it seems some do really well from early on and others take longer, so here's hoping our beautiful boy will do well from early :-)
-
Glad the scan went well possums - fx for another week :goodluck:
-
possum; as kass said fingers crossed. not long now. how exciting. x x
afm: looks like almost stopped bleeding now. brown stuff still but no more red. what a scary couple of days.

hi girls!!!
how are you all trundling along???
JBM - tell that child to behave and stop scaring mummy.. and us! i hope the bleeding stops soon lovey. ox
woo hooo kass!! congrats on a little pink one :)
Possums - that's great news about your little one still growing! try not to worry yourself too much about the weight, you can never tell how they'll go and you can't control it. fingers crossed he keeps growing, fluid levels don't go down further and it all goes well.
hi oneday, dr and kaybee and all the girls here!
Kaybee you must be about to pop??? good luck hun.
Well can you believe that Immy is a month old today! four weeks! already! unbelievable. She is still a big girl, so she was 10lb 3oz when born (4.6kg) regained her birth weight within 3 days (usually takes a week or two! lol) and is now well over 5kg! We could only use one of our newborn nappy boxes and had to go straight up to the next size lol... and she's filling out 000 very well,,, i think she'll be in 00 within a month... Ash wasn't in them til about 6 months old! ha! So my girl is a porker... with gorgeous thunder thighs, and several dozen chins... rolls on her ankles and her wrists... just so squishably adorable. Loads of dark curly/wavy hair and blue eyes like daddy :)
oh and the 2nd time around truly is sssoooo much easier and more relaxing than your first! Your first is such a life changing event but your second is just part of the landscape if you know what i mean.
So things are going really well, haven't had any hiccups with the feeding either! which is amazing after a bit of a trial with DS.
Just couldn't be happier with Immy and so content with my lot in life... even with a cheeky toddler in tow!
oh dear, rambled on... lol... grub is back!
anyhoo, just wanted to drop in and wish you all luck!!!
take care of yourselfs and belly rubs all round girls.

Hi - I just popped back in after I posted a little while ago and now it's not there. Damn it! Can't remember what I said
Possums - it must be a pretty emotional time for you, but it looks like things are still going well. Every day/ week in there must be helping and he's still there, so that's great.
Kass - yay for a pink one! How exciting!
JBM - what a horrible scare. So glad that things seem to have settled down for you. Hope you are relaxing and taking it nice and easy.
Grub - thanks for popping back in - I was only just thinking about you. Sounds like you are truly on cloud nine. You deserve it! Congratulations! So stoked that things are going so well for you. Immy sounds adorable.
Hi oneday, DR, trishy and everyone else
AFM - I have a cold and am desperately trying to get rid of it before the baby comes. Labour with a cold wouldn't be much fun - neither would newborn life! It has also been throwing my sugar levels all over the place which I am sooo over. I have been trying to stay in a state of readiness - not that I feel like anything will happen within the next week, but it is very relieving to know that the house is clean, the cupboards are full and the washing basket is (nearly) empty. Although I am sure that chaos will have taken over again by the time he/she arrives. At the same time I am trying to relax and let my energy focus on getting rid of this cold and getting my bits ready for the 'grand opening'. AND yesterday I got a bikini wax and a pedicure - all set!
Take care ladies xoxo

Aggghhhhh
I just typed a long message and then it disappeared on me... don't you hate that!!!! I think I'll try to rewrite it in small sections and post each seperately now!
Anyway I hadn't recieved any updates that anyone had posted for a week so I did think it was odd that the forum had gone so quiet. Thought I better just check and I seem to have missed out on alot.
Possums, Glad to hear your baby is still able to hang in there and hopefully when he is born he will be one of the ones who develops quickly. When I was pregnant with my daughter I was told she was "growth retarded" and I had to have a scan in 4 weeks time to check her development. Luckily she was okay but all I heard at the time was the word "retarded". This is apparently what they now call "growth restricted" which I think sounds so much less negative. Fingers crossed he can hang in there a bit longer and develop a bit stronger before he is born.

Hi again,
JBM, So sorry to hear about your bleeding and scare. What a relief that everything is okay. At least is sounds like the medical staff were okay, not like when I had my 2 massive bleeds at 7 and a half weeks and was told the baby was dead and basically treated like it was no big deal, happens all the time, "that's why we encourage people not to tell anyone they are pregnant until they are into the 2nd trimester". I was so angry when the dr said that because I thought that might be fine for a normal pregnancy but when you have been going through IVF and most of your friends know you can't not share the good news of a BFP when you finally get it after sharing all the grief of the negatives along the way. Besides I'd rather my friends know so I can share the grief if I had lost the baby rather than try to go through all that alone.
Sorry I can't remember the other news

Hi everyone,
Now for my news....
Someone mentioned going to their first birthing class this week (sorry I can't remember who it was). I also had my first class and thought I was doing it really late (as I was 4 and a half weeks left to go when I had my first class and the classes run for 3 weeks), however all the women are due within a couple of weeks of me (alot around the 6th Sept and through to the 15th). I am the 2nd earliest with one woman due 2 days before me. The one due just before me actually lives in the nearest town to me (only 8km away) so we exchanged numbers and I'm hoping we might manage to catch up outside of class. It would be nice to know someone close by with a baby so close in age, though we are in very different situations... she lives in town (not on acerage), she is married, alot younger than me (I'd guess she's atleast 10 years younger), first bub and she has lived in the area alot longer than me so sounds like she alreedy has a good support base here.
Anyway at the end of class we had a tour of the birthing facilities and I was shocked to realise how lucky my ex had been and how poor some of the facilities are. When my ex had her son we got to use the birthing centre (which only had 2 rooms). If you are lucky enough to get into one of these you can then stay in it for up to 24 hours before moving to a ward. She got to stay for 20 hours and I got to spend that first night in there with her and the baby. Then she had to move to a 4 bed ward with 2 other mums and bubs... but atleast she had a peaceful first night. If those rooms are in use you have to use a birthing room where you only get to stay a maximum of 2 hours after the birth before being moved to a ward... so there is literally no time to bond with your baby or recover before you are having to share with complete strangers and their babies and put up with other babies crying and disturbing your bub when you just got it to sleep. I was shocked that they move you into a ward so quickly after birth and it made me feel more determined to get out as quickly as possible. A friend had recommended staying in hospital as long as possible so you have the support around you but I don't sleep well when I have another person in the room (perhaps the reason I didn't cope when my ex lived with me - my first and only live in relationship barely made 2 years and really it was over within 6 months but I didn't want to admit it) so I know I'll struggle in a room with potentially 3 other strangers and 3 other babies.
When I gave birth to my daughter I had my own room for the first night and until around lunchtime the next day and then I was moved to a ward with 2 other mothers. I just can't imagine not having that first night with just you and your bub.
Anyway other news... I have my new window in my bedroom and in my daughter's current bedroom (which will become the playroom when her new room is finished). It makes such a difference having light coming in as they are aluminum sliding windows instead of the old double hung wood windows. It also means I can open the windows to get fresh air in! yay!!!! My daughter's old window was the worst because not only did it not open but the wood was completely rotten and there were a few small holes in the glass letting the cold air in. I'm suprised she wasn't sick more often. I knew it was bad but hadn't realised how bad until we started taking it out and parts of it just crumbled. The other windows have arrived (for the baby's room - replacing another one which doesn't open at all, and for my daughter's new room). I have organised for a neighbour to help next week when we replace 2 windows in my daughter's new room as we will need as much muscle as possible as in this particular spot the windows are what is holding the roof up (there is no support beam) so we'll have to work really fast to get a temp one in and remove the window and then put a permanent support in before putting in the new windows. The guy offered months ago that if I ever needed a hand just to give a yell and I appreciated the offer but told friends I would never make use of his genoristy like that... however now I really do need that extra adult (hopefully only for an hour or less) as my father and I wont' manage this part on our own.
It is nice to know that we have neighbours who are willing to help out like this though.
He is currently not working so I guess if I was desperate I could always ask him to drive me to the hospital when I go into labour but then what happens when we get there as I definately don't want him in the room with me!

dreamrise: thanks. i was lucky with the staff, they don't wanna be on the news like some of those hopitals where women were just left waiting while they were bleeding. thanks again. yeah for classes. i don't know if i will do any ??. prob not. yipee for some new windows. not long to go for you now. i realise how lucky i was with all my boys. all birth centre babies. i stayed only one night in bc with ds1 but i wanted to go home next day. i stayed 2 nights with ds 2, my choice again to go home, but with ds3 i staye for 5 days as no one else needed the room. lucky me and DH got to stay 1st ight with all babies. good luck to you.
kaybee: wow you're SO SO CLOSE NOW, i am so excited for you. not for the bikini wax though. ouch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. hope your cold goes soon.
grub: thanks for popping in to see us preg ladies, wow one month already, i love how you describe your little buddah, lol. sound so so cute !. :-) yes second is much easier as we 've done it beofre and i think are less stressed about everything. my 2nd was a gat baby and i seemed to have less trouble with everything !!. good luck to you and your cute chubby little baby. x x
afm: still spotting !, so annoying but i am feeling kicks so that is good, i have another scan on friday to check baby but at least i am not so scared now.
all is good and i did my measurements and i have gained 4 cm around my tummy and none anywhere else. we don't count boobs as they're enormous. LOL

thanks so much for your support everyone and sorry I haven't been doing personals lately...although I have been reading all your updates....
We were back at the hospital today for more monitoring and also to see the on call Ob.... he had a chat with us and said he thinks the time has come where our little boy will be better out than in...he is worried if we wait too long he will become weak and an emergency c-section would then be the only option. He said better to act now, while he is already getting skinnier/using his own reserves, but is nevertheless not showing signs of huge distress. So I am heading in tomorrow night to be induced...gel to ready the cervix, then overnight in hospital and they want me and the baby monitored every few hours as well (they are very cautious about the baby being distressed at all)...and all going well, labour to start on monday morning. He warned us again about our higher than normal chance of having a c-section too and of our baby being pretty small and skinny, but that hopefully he will pick up strength and fat quickly.
So this is it!! We are excited and also nervous...just processing everything, since these last few weeks have been a bit stressful. But wow, in two days we will have our baby!!! It's amazing to think of that.
sending you all the very best, especially those who are also so close now, and I have asked a fellow BB lady to post a birth announcement for me
-
Possums: oh how exciting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good luck to you for no C section. as doc says if it is better for baby to be out and then get some of that good brest milk will fatten him up in no time. lots and lots of best wishes to you. x x x
-
Hi Possums,
Best wishes for tomorrow night and Monday. Fingers crossed that regardless of whether it is an induced vaginal birth or a C-section that everything goes well and your little boy is safely beside you soon. I didn't realise that he had actually been losing condition recently so sounds like it's definately the best thing for him to be out and hopefully able to start putting weight on.

More later - gotta go!
