AFM: my last two shifts are tomorrow and sunday then I am off til last week of march I am so excited!!! I keep getting contractions on and off but apparently it is a symptom of placenta previa which I have grade 2. No bleeding though which is wonderful! 9 and a half weeks to go come on and fingers crossed this stupid placenta will stay out of the way!

AFM: i love acupuncture, had it yesterday and makes me feel renewed and relaxed. my acu lady is the nicest lady ever and she said i was looking good, compact and cute. see why i love her !!!
had the day off. about 20 jobs to do after acu though, but we start school hols now for 2 weeks in tas so only working 2 days per week. yipee for that. i may get used to it though and not want to go back to 3 days. lol.

Hi everyone,
Some good news to hopefully cheer you up a bit.
My baby girl is doing well. My milk is finally coming in so hopoefully breastfeeding will get easier now. Her bruised face is looking heaps better. I'm still struggling with her name though.
Anyway... the birth details:
I had a big show and broke my waters at 11.20pm on the 29th Aug. Called out to my mum who has been staying with me, and she suggested we ring the hospital which we did. At that stage I was having pains but they didn't feel like what I remembered contractions to feel like. The hospital told us to ring back in an hour and also to take note of if I felt the baby moving (which I couldn't).
After an hour I had still had no movements from baby and the pains were getting quite intense but still didn't feel like contractions to me (though my dad noted from my noises that they did seem to be about 6 minutes apart). We rang the hospital and they said to make our way in. We got a park fairly close but by that stage I was really struggling to walk and the pains were feeling more like contractions.
I got into the labour ward around 1am so on the hospital records they have recorded that the total labour was 2 and a half hours (2 hours 10 mins for stage 1, 5 mins for stage 2 and 15 mins for stage 3 - delivering the placenta).
Anyway they hooked me up to a monitor and found the contractions were really strong and just as with my 14yr old daughter, the baby's heart rate went down with each contraction so they were a little concerned.
I was moved to a birthing room and had my student midwife and a male midwife. I tried to stand and walk a bit but it effected the monitors so in the end I was told I would have to lie on the bed (just like with my 14yr old). Anyway the pain was getting really bad and where I had refused to consider drugs when having my 14yr old (I got talked into pethadene at the very end) I was asking for it this time... begging actually. I said to my mum "Why did I want to have another one?". The student midwife did an internal and estimated I was only 4cm dilated. Then the male midwife did one and said I was only 3cm dilated. I couldn't bare the thought of another few hours before I would even be fully dilated. I wanted to try a new drug which is self-administered via drip but they needed a doctor to do it and all the doctors had been called away so I agreed to a pethadene shot instead. Well I think pethadene must just speed up my labour because just like with my 14yr old, bub was born within 10 minutes of me having the injection.
After having the needle I asked if I could go to the toilet. They took the monitor off and let me go since I was only 4cm dilated at the most so it was like I had heaps of time still.
Anyway the student came with me but then she said "I'll leave you in peace, call out if you need anything". I was sitting on the toilet and felt like I needed to push and I remembered her telling me that I couldn't push because I was not dilated enough so I tried not to push and then suddenly I felt something starting to come out between my legs. I stood up and put my hand there and thought I could feel the top of the baby's head. I screamed for the student. She came running in and I said "What is it?" because I thought it felt like the baby but if I was only 4cm dilated then obviously it couldn't be. She had a look and said she'd need to get gloves to have a closer look so she ran out to get gloves as there were none in the bathroom. She also pressed the emergency buzzer as she left, to get more help. As soon as she was out I felt the baby basically fall out between my legs (no pushing - nothing). I somehow managed to catch her as she came out and I just screamed because I was in shock!
The student came back in time to see me literally catch her and then she took hold of her and handed her back to me so I could hold her properly and walk back to the bed. The male midwife and another nurse arrived as we started to make our way back to the bed.
They let her lie on my chest for quite a while before even checking the time or doing anything else. I think we were all in shock how fast the last bit had happened - to go from 4cm dilated to the baby being out in around 10 minutes. It was 3.18 when they checked the time and my mum reckons it was 3.11 when I first emerged from the bathroom but they recorded her birth as being 3.15.
Anyway once she was out the contractions stopped completely so I needed quite a bit of help to get the placenta out.
For my next 2 days in hospital every new nurse who looked after me said they had heard about the spectacular birth in the bathroom. I said to the student midwife it was lucky that the male midwife did an internal on me after her or everyone would have thought she had just got it wrong. She had estimated I was 4cm dilated and he had estimated 3cm (after her) and he is apparently very experienced. They think it might have been the pressure of the baby pushing on the cervix when I walked to the toilet just sped things up. Also sitting on the toilet can apparently open up the cervix more. I think it must be my body’s response to Pethadene and I’ve been told it does work to relax those muscles so maybe thats what helped me go from 4cm dilated to the baby being born in 10 minutes.
Anyway amazingly I didn't tear so didn't need any stitches, however the poor little girl came out face first instead of the back of her head first so she is very bruised.

AFM: I am officially on maternity leave as of today and am so happy I decided not to work another 3 weeks because yesterday's shift just killed me my feet are still throbbing! 9 weeks to go yay! I still have bought hardly anything! my first son destroyed his pram, still sleeps in his cot so I still need to purchase those and a car seat plus bottles again and an electric breast pump and bla bla bla so I am on ebay!

AFM- Bit dissapointed today, i had my 34 week midwifes appointment today and my girl is still breached and the midwife thinks she may not move as she is in the same position as 4 weeks ago at my 4d ultrasound with her back against my belly and legs and arms inwards. so im having another scan in 2 weeks and if she hasn't moved then the dr will try externally move her and if that dosnt work then i will be booked in for a ceaser :( and to top it off i had a breast examination and she said i may have problems breast feeding as my breasts havn't changed at all, or she will want to feed all the time because she wont get much milk out at one time but my collostrum has come in so that's a good thing. I think we wait for this for so long and i know the most important thing is that i get my healthy girl but i just want to know what labour feels like and experience it but with her being breached that will be taken away as they will book me in early to avoid me going int labour.

oneday - don't give up hope! it is still possible to vaginally birth a breech baby as long as she is bum first which sounds like she may be. My DF was born breech. They never mentioned 'c-section" at tall to his mother and this is 24 years ago aswell! research your options. I would hate for you to be pushed into something you may regret. best of luck with your next appointment!

I'm still very much on tender-hooks and trying not to get too excited just yet but at the same time trying to enjoy being PREGNANT. This is the furthest DH and I have ever gotten and its all NATURAL. So we are pretty stoked about that - no more IVF and forking out thousands - we know we can do it on our own :)

Just wanted to let you know that my breasts didn't seem to change much during the pregnancy and my collustrum didn't come in until after my baby was born so you are a step ahead of where I was... hopefully it will be nothing to worry about.
My milk has come in now (I'm actually leaking a bit). But when I was in hospital and my first appointment a couple of days later at home the nurses asked if my breasts were getting hard (a sign the milk is coming in) and I was starting to get a bit stressed because they were still so soft... but now they definately get hard if she hasn't drunk for a little while.
As far as your baby being breach maybe it's better if you do have a C-section. I know two women who gave birth vaginally with a breach baby. One had a big baby and he got stuck and although he ended up coming out alright (after a 20 hour labour) his bum was rubbed raw from grinding on the pelvis so he couldn't wear a nappy for several weeks after he was born.
The other woman had no problems at all but her bub was only 5 pounds 10 (so quite small). They knew he was breech and gave her the option of a C-section or vaginal but as she'd already had 6 previous easy labours and generally has small babies she decided to go for vaginal and he came out fine.

AFM: well i had a BC app today, all is well, baby has strong heartbeat and all is looking good. the midwife said i was quite compact and looking good for my stage and baby number 4. yipee for that. i am measuring still about a week ahead. so i am 22 and half weeks but they say more like 23 and half.
who knows i have always been early anyway.

hey ladies thanks for your stories but unfortunetly the hospital im delivering at won't do breached births naturally!! i would have to go to a hospital at newcastle which is an hr away and to be honest i wouldn't risk delivering naturally if she is breached. So thats why if the external turn dosn't work a c-section is my only option. I got a call from the midwife today who had just spoken to the obstertrician and he said he dosnt need me to have an ultrasound so i have an appointment with him in 2 weeks and i guess that will be to feel what position bub is in and if she is breached he will try turn her and if it dosnt work then he will book me in for the c-section :( the only positive i can see from the situation is that i will get my girl earlier then the 16th as they wont let me go to my due date but at the moment im praying so hard she turns because its really important to me to atleast be able to know the feeling of labour.
Dreamwise thats an amazing story, sounds like a good labour to me!!! congrats again :)
Oneday - I hope she turns herself around for you. I don't know if there's anything you can do to encourage her to move, but I hope you get your natural birth. I don't know about the breast feeding issue, I've been having similar worries as my boobs are on the (very) small side and haven't changed at all so far. They didn't think it would be an issue when I asked about it though, and I haven't been able to find any info to support my worry, so who knows? Hopefully it won't be an issue for you (or me!)
JBM - glad your appointment went well. You know with your bub measuring ahead, and mine a few days behind I think you'll definitely be beating me to the birth!

Hey ladies i read up on the external turn and DH and I have decided if bub dosn't turn on her own then we are just going for the c-section, i thought the turn was a simple procedure but its actually pretty intense, they give you an injection to relax the uterus and it has to be performed at a hospital with c-section facilities in case of an emergency!!! its ultrasound guided and then you have to stay in hospital for 4 hrs in case bub becomes distressed! After everything we have been through we arn't prepared to risk anything so we will just do what's best for bub, and i believe if she is ment to be born naturally then she will turn on her own but i am doing some excercises to encourage her to turn so fingers crossed that works.
Kass im trying not to let what the midwife said about breastfeeding get to me because iv heard lots of women get their boobs once the milk comes in so fingers crossed we will both be fine :)

oneday, i hope bubs turns around for you soon but if not you have a good plan ahead and am sure all will go well. at the end of the day all that matters is that baby arrives into this world safe & healthy. Have you tried accupuncture at all during pregnancy? I believe that sometimes that can help them turn?

I had an app with an Ob this morning and everything went well, thank GOD! Bub measuring good for dates and heartrate up to around 170bpm so she said all was on track. she said i do have a heartshape uterus but yes it is only a mild case that there should still be plenty of room for bub to grow and not to worry about it. Dh & I had tears running down our faces after hearing the heartbeat, can only imagine the floods we will create as the pregnancy progesses!! (touchwood!) I'm just over 9 weeks now and this is the first time things have looked 'normal' and on-track. I know i have a long long way to go but i am staying positive with this one, i am slowly starting to let myself believe that maybe, just maybe, this one is a stayer! :crossfingers: I'm having another scan in 2 weeks....another nervous 2WW, it just never ends!
Anyway, hope everyone is well & happy and wish you all a fantastic weekend :loveshower:

AFM: well DH and i are off to QLD to see his kids for a week with no little kids ( all our boys) we have our friends babysitting during the school hols and i am so excited for us to have some time alone.
although the sight of me in preg bathers on the gold coast beach may be a little too much for some. LOL
all is going well. lots and lots of kicking all the time and DH finally has been feeling baby kicking, he fell asleep with his hand on my tummy last night and baby kicking away. so cute.
DH's daughter is preg, 1 month behind me. this is the thing with marrying someone 11 years older .LOL. so i am so excited to be seeing her as we get along really well.

hi ladies! Yogi im trying moxa sticks starting this sunday which is done by a natropath, they put these special sticks on your little toes on a pressure point and burn them and apparently it gets bub moving which encourages them to turn into the correct position, my midwife actually told me about it and said ppl swear by it working, i rang the natropath yeaterday and she said we need to start this weekend otherwise bub will be too big to turn so i have everthing crossed it works but if not its not ment to be i guess.
And thats fantastic news yogi, i remember the first time we heard our little girls heart beat too our hearts melted such an amazing thing to hear after everything we go through! And you will enjoy every part of pregnancy, i still lay on the lounge in awe of my little girl rolling around in my tummy i just love watching her! xx
JBM its so nice when the partners start feeling the kicks becasue i think for so long they dont feel apart of it but when my DH felt it for the first time he was so excited! And enjoy your trip to queensland, i hope its nice and warm for you! xx
Oneday - best of luck in the next few weeks, as for the milk thing I never got bigger breasts though my last pregnancy and the same with this one, was always in the same bra, my milk also didnt come in until day 7!!!! but bub was fine, having a c section it often can delay the milk anyway so just ignore the midwife!
JBM - have fun at the coast! it is my home town and the weather has been great the last few days!
AFM - not much new, I still vomit and get nausea most of the day, I did with my first too, it is just my luck!

I need some advice.... I'm still struggling with a name and now have 2 I'm seriously considering. So I want to know what people think of the following (and which you think is better).
Breemika (pronounced Bree-me-ka)

Danicia (pronounced Da-ne-sha - as in the end of Alicia)
I'm still tearing my hair out over this whole naming thing!!! Bub is doing better... we still have a pretty bad time in the afternoons/evenings - she drinks, sleeps on the boob or screams continually from around 4pm to 11pm! My breasts are so sick of being used as dummies but the minute she falls asleep on the boob and I try to take her off to put her down to sleep she immediately wakes up screaming! I really hope she grows out of this phase soon. At least she is pretty good the rest of the time.

Well my baby finally has a name...
Her name is Danicia Kohana Kelly
I'm lodging her birth certificate today. I consulted with lots of people and overall Danicia had the most support and I was mostly swayed by the fact that my daughter gave it an 8 out of 10 and my other shortlisted name was "less than 1 out of 10". She still hasn't shown much interest in her baby sister so I'm hoping that atleast if the baby has a name she likes it might help. She also helped choose her middle name which is Japanese and my daughter is learning Japanese. In fact she is currently finding out about doing a student exchange to Japan for one term next year. I feel really nervous about that as she will only be 15.
