Has anyone had progesterone prescribed for the first trimester? any side effects?

    Morning

Just wondering if anyone else has taken progesterone in a pregnancy following a miscarriage ? I am not sure if I have some side effects from the drug or if it is pregnancy related.

Thought I knew everything before.........Its amazing how stupid pregnancy makes you feel.

(please ignore my typo in the heading.........how stupid do I feel now ????)

I had to take progesterone in pessary form for the entire first trimester of my last pregnancy and I'm not sure if I had side effects. I know I was very emotional at the beginning of the pregnancy and had bloating early on but as you say, it could be pregnancy related as well. Congrats on your BFP!!!!!

After I had a misscariage I was talking to a naturopath in a health food shop who reccomended I use a progesterone cream on cub fossa of arm (where it bends) twice a day until 2nd trimester. I did this once I was successfully pregnant again (took 12 months to conceive again) and DS1 is now 3 and a bit!!

I had no side effects but I was scared to stop using the cream so had to wean myself off using it.

I was on the progesterone pessaries for the whole 12wks and aside from the gross discharge there wasn't too many side effects for me.
I did have a horrible headache for most of the 12wks but I have no idea if this was progesterone or something else. I read the side effects and headaches was one of them....
But really aside from that I had no problems with it and Im still pregnant after 1 MC and 2 Chemicals so Im happy.

I have been taking 2 progesterone tablets four times a day since I got my BFP. At 12 weeks I got to start weaning off them and have two days to go of only one tablet a day. I was definitely very bloated to begin with and really struggled with sleep at night, but I have also been having hcg injections so TBH don't know what is causing what. Since starting to wean off them I have had terrible headaches but I'm not sure if that's due to a change in the drug levels or just that its got hot here over the last few days.

Thanks ladies. I hadnt heard anyone else talking about progesterone so I thought I was the only one :-(

LuluHB - I was so bloated from really early on and now I seem to be not bloated at all. My pants were loose yesterday and I could barely fit into them the last few weeks. I have been sleeping so poorly and waking up at stupid o'clock for weeks and not being able to sleep again that night. 3 am is no time to start the day!!

I was a bit worried because i have never had sleep problems like this and am starting to lose my mind. Add to that the constant worry of micarrying again and I am a fruit cake.

I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant but I dont really have any pregnancy symptoms other than my breasts hurt and swelled for about 2 weeks and while they seem to have stayed larger, the pain is no longer there and I thought maybe something had gone wrong but because of the progesterone my body wouldnt react to the loss but would keep things as they are and I wouldnt know I had miscarried.

JackLicky - so happy for you !! i hope everything continues on just great!

But you all had successful pregnancies after taking progesterone so thats a positive!

Thanks again for your replies. Its nice to hear of some positive experiences.

I was on progesterone for my two last pregnancies. The first one doctor prescribed progesterone because my progesterone levels were low. They were low because the pregnancy was ectopic, so the progesterone did not help anything anyway.
This time around my levels were normal, but doctor still put me on supplementary progesterone "just in case", because I had two previous miscarriages. I do not think the progesterone helped, I think it would be OK anyway, but I certainly had side effects - insomnia and dizziness. I was so loopey after taking it in the morning that I could not even drive myself to work.
