20 weeks is better as you can see more and baby is bigger. At my 20 week scan they checked out all the limbs, organs, did a finger & toe count lol and just got to see baby kicking and rolling around! They can also determine gender most times. The place I went to took some great colour 3d still shots and I also got a dvd of the whole scan which took about half an hour or so I think. It was a great experience!

    Congrats and enjoy!

I had mine at 19 weeks as my husband was going to be away for work during my 20th week. There was no problems doing all the relevant baby health checks.

I also had a cool 3D one and it was great! We got to see heaps and found out gender.

If you can, try and get an appointment during week 20 as the further along you are the more developed the baby will be.

closest to 20wks as you can, you will see more & better. I was not patient enough to wait to find out the gender & our ultrasound dude only comes up every 5wks or so. So I went spot on 18wks & had to go back as he couldn't do the checks on the heart that he needed.

I'm going to be a big downer.....

The purpose of the scan is to check the health of bub. If bub has very serious health issues, then you are given the option not to continue with the pregnancy.

The limit for making that decision is often around 20 weeks, so it can be better to have the scan before then.

I hope I haven't upset anyone. I know it is the last thing any of us want to think about. It is just a very sad, but practical aspect to consider for timing your scan.

I'm booked in for my scan on 12 October as I will be away during my 19th week and they said that it's best done then not earlier, ie not during my 18th week. Holly, I'm with you, I'm more concerned about how my bub is developing. Also, my Ob does his own v.quick scan at each visit.

Yeha i have booked , they said they didnt want to do it untill i was 19 weeks exactly

i would have liked to get it done now lol (18 weeks ) as i deperately want to know if bubs is doing ok and growing and developing like normal.

but i can wait i guess

I never get which date to go by as each scan shows a different due date or how many weeks / days i am. A midwife told me i should go by the first scan i got which was at 6 weeks and thats what im doing but it gets pretty confusing

    Just had my scan!!!!!

Hi everyone, just had my 19 week scan today. we were there for 2 and a half hours oh so tired.

So the baby is so so active moving all the time holding its feet rolling so so beautiful.

The ppl doing the scan said everything looked great they checked everything from feet , hands brain nose mouth , kidneys bladder , legs and arms everything.. they checked the spine said it looked fine they couldnt see any problems with it but they couldnt get a good pic of the whole spine so sent me for a walk to try and move the bub we did that for a while back and forth lol wouldnt move so i may need to go back in a few weeks so they can get a good pic of the spine

Found out the sex.. Its a little girl
