    Swollen feet already!

    Hi all,

I am 17 weeks today and while shopping at Myer at lunch, a friend of mine noticed my feet were swollen. I'd noticed it a few days ago but thought I was imagining it... now that someone else has pointed it out, I don't feel so silly!

Wondering if anyone else has had swelling this early in the pg? My sister could only wear thongs for the last month or so while pg but I would not have expected this so early on.

Any suggestions on how to relieve it? Should I be worried? Mention to the Obs next appointment?

i had swelling in my hands around the 12th week and it ended with me getting two rings cut off one finger, but its clamed down...i found drinking alot of water helps. it cant hurt you tell your Ob about it eather. as for helping it try laying down with your feet up above your heart, sometimes that helps.

    i hope it gets better

I get bad swelling....ive started to notice it alot now (23 weeks). Try to keep off your feet as much as possible, raised and sometimes cool water helps (soak you feet).

Id mention it to your OB cos swelling is a sign to watch out for, but it could just be fluid as well.

My feet started to swell in the 2nd tri but I can't remember how many weeks I was. It started out just for a couple of days then went away for a while then came back and never really went away. Mine actually started with just the left foot and it took a while til the right one caught up. My OB said it was completely normal - a little unusual to have it in one foot - but still normal. He just told me to put my feet up at night - above my head. This would make the swelling go down overnight but a few hours into the next day up they'd come again.

During the third tri I only had two pairs of shoes I could wear & I couldn't wear socks at all as they cut off my circulation (apart from bed socks but they wouldn't fit in my shoes). For about the last month at work I could only wear the 1 pair of slip on shoes that were a size bigger than normal. It was winter but I never felt the cold on my feet, funnily enough. Even those became almost unwearable the last week of work (so at 36 weeks) so I went bare foot around the office for much of the day. My feet were huge but as everything else was normal my OB wouldn't give me time off work, even when I only had two more days to go. It was really uncomfortable for I'd say the last month or so.

My advice is to get your feet up at night & keep them up.
