My 12 week scan revealed and amniotic band extending from left to right in the posterior mid aspect of the uterus. Bub is moving freely with no limb involvement.
The Dr who did the scan results said the band often disappears by the 18 week scan. The scary part is that I put amnitoic band into google and the results were very scary - deformities etc. Just wondering if anyone has had these bands that disappeared as the pregnancy progressed? I see my ob on Wednesday so hopefully she will be able to shed some more light.
I have seen a few disappear and have seen a few thats haven't but bub has being born with no problems caused by the amniotic bands. I have heard that they can get parts of their body in the bands that restrict limbs, fingers etc but as a midwife I am yet to see any effects from these like loss of limbs or deformities of limbs.
I had an amniotic band with DD, it ran right through the middle of the uterus and was there to the end, I have a 3D image and video of it at 29 weeks - my OB was very impressed when she saw it in 3D
But the video also shows the shape of my septate uterus (heart shaped) further on it so may be a bit confusing. I have jsut uploaded it so it may be processing for a little while
DD was born with no problems, albeit early, there is a possibility that an amniotic band can cause preterm labour but it is not a given, I had three complications all of which were possible causes of preterm labour so it may not have been the band at all.
DD had absolutely no signs of being affected by the amniotic band, it basically sat under her legs between her bum and knees. It is great that bubs is moving around it freely
If they thought that there would be a problem they would have flagged it, but it sounds as though it is like mine and pretty harmless
Try not to stress and please stop Googling!!!
Take care
