Anterior Placenta - when could others feel baby?

Hello! I've just seen my ultrasound report, and all is well and my placenta is anterior. This is a bit of a relief, since I was wondering why I didn't feel much movement. But now I am curious - my kids would LOVE to feel the baby move, and I can't see that happening any time soon. Does anyone know about when they (and DH!) should be able to feel movement? Thanks!

This is my first experience of having an anterior placenta and I have to say that I was relieved also.

For myself, I only beganto feel movements at about 20 weeks and even now at 22 weeks it's still hard to tell. Occassionally I can see movements but my children are having problems feeling them.

I'll keep you posted as to when it becomes obvious to everybody!!

I had anterior placenta and was able to feel baby move myself from about 19 weeks. I think i was able to feel movement from the outside from about 20 or 21 weeks.

This is my third bub and I have an anterior placenta also. I was starting to get so worried that I couldnt feel the bub like I did with my other two, so I was really stressed going to my scan yesterday morning. Im 19 weeks and only feeling a few pokes and prods right down low.

I am just 19 weeks and movements have just really started coming through. Although the baby doesnt like DH trying to feel them because it stops straight away hehe!!

I felt my first movement at around 19wks and felt from the outside as well, but not very strong. After a few weeks they got stronger and stronger and more frequent.

Zane had an anterior placenta.. i felt kicks and movement from 18wks... constantly from about 20wks. He was my first bub too. It did muffle the movements though, as this one has a posterior placenta and OMG its painful and very interesting to see limbs!

Fletch - did you not see any limbs with the anterior placenta?? I am hoping to see some limbs soon!! I think the placenta is more over the right of the uterus so maybe I still will.

I've just found out I have an anterior placenta too and was also very relieved! I have actually felt the odd movement from about 12 weeks but they've been very few and far between, not at all like my DD. I'm hoping to feel some strong movement in the next few weeks but will be watching this thread with interest!

I also have an AP, and I have had slight flutterings for a couple of weeks, only the last few days been feeling stronger movements, though they are still not v distinct!! DH cannot feel them fromthe outside yet... My OB said it mayhappen much later...
I hope I do get to see and feel limbs, everyone tells me how amazing that is!

Hi ladies,

Just after a bit of advice from those with an AP.

I started feeling movements the other day at 19 weeks. Should i be worried if i dont feel them for a day or so?

When i have felt them they have always been at the side (i presume on the side of the placenta)

Do you think i should be worried?

So glad for this thread. I also have an AP this time and was really worried until my scan on Monday. I have not really felt much at all yet and I am 19 weeks. I thought I would feel it earlier this time

I too have an AP. Started to feel what i thought were bubbles around the 17-18wk mark and about a week or so later, started feeling movements on the outside.

Prue, I'm exactly the same as you. I felt quite a few movements over the weekend and then nothing again until late last night. When I do feel it, it's always on the sides, closer to my hips, whereas with DD I always felt it closer to the centre of my pelvis.

I think I've felt some this morning but they're sooooo soft I always end up second guessing it.

LizzysMum - it's so hard have an AP the second time around isn't it?? It's so different to the first time you can't help but worry...

We had our 19w scan on Saturday. I was told I have an AP which surprised me as I've been feeling Bunny since 13w and her kicks have only been getting stronger by the day!

The sonographer said the placenta was placed lovely and high, so perhaps that accounts for me being able to feel her so much, as her kicks are often down low in my belly. My DH felt his daughter kick for the first time when she was about 18w

It's great to hear from so many of you ladies in the same boat! Thanks! I've been feeling this baby since about 13ish weeks, but only very soft movements, and not every day. I actually didn't think too much of it, (since I'm busy with the girls, etc.) until I talked to a friend of mine who is due a few weeks before me, and she was mentioning how her kids can feel her baby move. Then I started to wonder what was up with my baby, and getting a little worried. I can feel him/her well if my knees are up (so maybe try that if you really want to feel your baby and can't!) and it's always low down, or on the sides, so my placenta must be higher and in the centre.
It sounds like DH and the girls should be able to feel this little one in a month or so, anyways, which will be nice. I really hope that I don't end up with too many rib kicks and crowding - I'm short of breath already!

I didn't feel anything at all before 22 weeks

Hi, I felt some movements as early as 14 weeks, but only down low near my cervix. It was more like pin pr**ks in my cervix area, not actual movements as such. But then they disappeared and it took until about 20 weeks for me to feel anything again. This time I felt actual movemetns like rumblings that feel similar to having gas. But I only felt them occasionally and they'd disappear again for 3 or 4 days, then come back, then disappear. I think it might have been around about 23 weeks when I realised that I could feel movements easier by placing my hand on my belly. This is when DH started being able to feel something, too, if we got the timing right. But DH seems to be extremely calming on bub as it usually stops moving once he puts his hand on my belly.
Then for a while bub used to really kick but at around 29 weeks it slowed down again. Now the movements are a lot more gentle, more slow stretching and rolling than kicking. I guess, bub is running out of space.
My placenta is anterior and kinda low lying. I still don't feel much movement in the lower half of my belly, only above the belly button.

Our bub is like yours with DH. I can feel it moving and then as soon as DH puts his hand on my belly he stops. DH has started to think i am just teasing him, which i am not.

Cant wait for him to start feeling it move.

This baby has been getting hiccups lately, and so last night, when the hiccups started, I called DH over, and HE FELT THE BABY!!! Hurray! At my 19 week ultrasound, they said the placenta is slightly to the left, and right up to the fundus, so the movement I feel is lower down. But baby is definitely moving more and more strongly these days, so hopefully soon it will be easier for DH and the kids to feel him/her often!
