    Bulk billed 3D/4D scan?

    Hey!
This is my first pregnancy in Australia after having 4 others in UK.
3D scans were only just becoming available near the end of my pregnancy with number 4.
I am wondering if it is possible to get the 20 weeks scan done in 3D or at least in part and bulk billed? I live in Palm Beach S.E Queensland
    Thanks!

As far as I know, you can get the standard (2D) scan done for free but 3D and 4D are seen as more of a 'luxury' and not deemed necessary for a standard morphology scan, so are not bulk billed. Having said that though, when I got my scan done at the hospital at the end the lady got a pic of bub's face in 3D and printed it out for me to take home - which was nice. But the rest of the scan (all the important bits) were done in 2D.

Best to check with your doctor or the place where you are getting your scan done though, just to make sure.

not sure but think you only get bulk billed if you have a concession carrd...having said that i think if they have the capability of 3d scan on the machine they would prob do a pic for you if they are in a suitable position....

I had a 4D at 28 weeks. They said it was the best time to do it. The baby would be well developed but not too big to get some great pics. I had my scan done at Exact Radiology for $100 which wasn't bulk billed. For that I got some coloured prints and a dvd of all the still shots. And it all depends on the day if your baby is wanting their photos taken. I was very lucky and got some very clear pictures.

    Hope this helps.

I think it will depend on where you go. We got 3/4D photos with all our scans - it was standard. I'm a private patient though so we had to pay for our scans then claim some back through Medicare. Our last scan at 32 weeks was $185 and I think we ended up being about $50 out of pocket.

I didn't need a referral to get my 4D scan done. I just rang and made an appointment.
