Hi everyone,
I'm currently 23 weeks today.
My question is (i can hear you all laughing already)....
Hub and I went to the fireworks at The Perth Royal Show and where we sat is only metres where they fire from.
I was wondering, could the noise stress or harm the baby ...and could it physically have an effect ie: hurt bubbys ears/eardrums?
I actually sat there with my backpack in front pushing on my tummy to muffle the noise, lol.
Sorry for silly questions but this is my first and I'm wondering bout so many things.
Thanks =)
Just goes to show how our Mummy instincts that are hardwired into us kick into protection mode!
As far as I am aware, no harm can be done at all.
When I was pg with Olivia, we saw two lots of fireworks (first tri and 2nd tri, from memory.) And I also went to a fairly loud muster with fireworks at the end in my 2nd tri. No harm done to Olivia at all!
I am not sure but one thing I really noticed when I was pregnant was the reaction of DS at the movies. In most loud movies he did kick around quite a bit so I guess it woke him up. If I watched a scary movie (where my heart rate rose) then he hardly stopped the whole time. We started modifying what movies we saw around the third trimester just in case.
My dr also told me that movies are generally too loud for bubs (outside of the womb) even if they wear earmuffs because the bass goes straight to the eardrums anyway.
So to answer your question...I dont know. But it is something to think about.
No laughing here at all, I had the exact same worry when I was pregnant with Zander. We have an annual festival that has fireworks & I was nervous about that to start with. The next week we went to see the Queen musical & OMG was it so loud, the seats were vibrating!! I was worrying the whole time so held both my bag & my jacket over my belly JIC. Even though at the end of the show Zander was bopping away to the music I was still worried! At my next antenatal appointment I asked my Dr and he said that there is enough fluid & other sounds going on in there that all bub would hear is muffled sound.
Thanks so much for replies.
Sarah, your reply made me feel sane! Someone else muffling sounds with bags LOL. I'm not a nutter afterall.
Thanks again.
Now what else can I worry about with this pregnancy....j/k
Nell, I've been told that the womb is a really loud place, with all the blood pumping and whatever, apparently it's as loud as a subway station? So...I'd say fireworks would have been okay.
I did find a study the other day saying that loud music has been linked to problems, I will try to dig it up. I normally go to nightclubs as my husband DJ's but have decided not to go anymore because of the noise. I'm sure no harm is done by an evenign at the show with fireworks though!
I went to the Robbie concert when I was about 18 weeks and was worried too - but bub was bopping away (good taste in music like her mummy ) the whole time and she is fine. I would be worried about prolonged exposure to something like that but one off situations I think would be ok! There is alot of protection in there with fluid, skin and muscle - although some studies might show differently I guess. Glad bub is fine today!
