    Question cravings? etc

    Hey everyone...

am just wondering, when do those food cravings start...??? basically i haven't had any cravings until now... except that i don't want to eat tomato in my salad and i've gone off fish! (poor hubby LOVES fish)

today i felt like a cinnamon donut, cheezels and icream all in the space on 1 hr... do they constitute as cravings??

also, i haven't had any BB soreness...they have grown a bit, but everyone keeps telling me that they are meant to hurt or be real sensitive... should i just be happy that they aren't..? or does it mean that i may have trouble breastfeeding later...?

I started getting cravings around the middle of the 2nd trimester I think! I think it can happen at anytime though!

My bbs were really sore when I first fell pg but they haven't been for ages! So just think yourself lucky... bbs being sore I am quite sure has nothing to do with being able to bfeed well or anything! Everyone experiences everything differently and everyone always has an opinion and I guess noone is right or wrong as long as you and bubs are well that is all that matters!

    Hey Haroula,

I don't think that I ever got any cravings to speak of - if anything I just went off everything that I'd previously liked. For quite a while there I really struggled to find anything that I wanted to eat, or I would find something that was palatable, but after 1 or 2 times, couldn't face it again. It was a very boring time, but fortunately things have gotten better as the weeks have passed & now I'm pretty much back to normal.

As for the sore BB's - I had really sore ones for the first 12 weeks, but since then, nothing, they don't even feel like they've grown since then, even though I'm just a couple of weeks away from my EDD. But I'm just working on the positive thought that the majority of us will be able to BF if we want to, it's just that our bodies do different things & "normal" is a hard thing to define...

I am 9 weeks and have been having cravings for the last couple of weeks. A food just pops into my head and I simply have to have it, nothing else will do. The other day it was milo...went to the shops got some, had a drink and that was it...the tin is still sitting in the cupboard. I have bad m/s and find it difficult to find things to eat so when something pops into my head and I give in and have it as I don't know when I will be interested in eating it again.

Have had very sore bb's from day dot and the are getting worse. Everyone is different and I would love to be feeling normal now. Enjoy it while you have can!!!!

I never really had cravings with this pg or my last pg, just a craving for food in general as I was starving every two to three hours just like a newborn!
As for the sore bbs, mine hardly grew and weren't painful with my 1st pg and with this pg they are already enormous and a little more sensitive but not too bad, I think it depends on how they feel when you are pre-menstrual - mine never usually hurt at that time.

    HI,

i haven't really had cravings either, however I'm starting to realise that I have really been enjoying dairy food. It was pretty normal for me to crave other foods before being pregnant though the dairy food, ice cream, custard, creamed rice, cream, I just want more and more (I made myself sick last week, 'cause I had too much). I put that down to DH, as he loves milk, and I think Jnr will be the same.

Sore BBs, mine have been pretty well behaved, but sorry I'm going to give you a tip. don't let them get cold!!! if my nipples get cold I end up in agony because they get hard and my bra is too constricting. But it will have no impact on feeding if you don't feel pain. Just think yourself lucky.

Not having cravings is kind of lucky too, your less likley to put on extra weight.

No craving for me yet! I'm 15.5 weeks however, in the first few weeks I totally went off red meat (very unusual for a carnivore like myself) and "craved" macca's cheeseburgers (the sauce from the cheeseburgers more than the burgers themselves).

My BB's were quite sore to start with but they havent been hurting for a few weeks now and I'm not worried about it as everything seems to be going along perfectly so far.

I have been craving chocolate milkshakes, and the craving usually hits about 3.30 each day. Its 3.30 now, so yes I'm having a milkshake craving! Only thing about these cravings is remembering to get real ice cream put in instead of soft serve... and i have skim milk ones so I'm trying to be good

ohhh yum! choc milk shakes!!! I know, the real ice-cream thing is such an issue! most places use soft serve unless you can find a cafe that makes them... then you are sure! but they are pretty good for you... you know... all that calcium!!

I agree with the calcium thing - I never used to drink milk or eat cheese or anything and now I drink about 2-3 litres of flavoured milk every couple of days! Just can't get enough though it's hard to say that it is a craving because when I run out I don't go crazy if I can't have it straight away - after about a few hours I will though! ha ha

By the way - HAS to be FARMERS UNION ICE COFFEE - nothing else will cut it!

    hello!
I've not had really strong cravings, but i have gone off tea and coffee. When i was feeling really sick all i wanted was KFC - weird?! For some reason lately i want raw almonds and those sour jelly sweets!!
Oh and sore BBs or not won't make any difference to your ability to BF. I never had sore BBs with last pregnancy and successfully BFd for 22 months without any problems at all. This time BBs are a bit sore but then DS hasn't quite learnt how to let go of them gently yet!!! Even though he is no longer feeding from them, he still loves a good cuddle and play, they are very comforting for him. Love my BBs LOL! They do seem to be growing at quite a rate the past few weeks. 99% of women CAN BF with the right information and supports. I suggest you contact ABA (Aust. Breastfeeding Assoc.) to arm yourself with all the information possible before bubs arrives so you are well prepared, as many many women do have a hard time to start with.

i didnt have any weird cravings but my biggest was dairy - all through my pregnancy. i didnt eat dairy prenatally - was a rice milk and sheep cheese eater.
but i was drinking about 1 litre milk a day, custard, cheese, cream you name it i wanted it. i would just drink glasses of milk a day!!
now that dd is born... nope! lol i will have a little milk on my cereal (for calcium) and thats it!!!!
