I've only posted here a few times and here I am jumping right in with a very graphic Q
I'm 19 1/2 wks pg and as of about a week ago I started to have fairly heavy, frequent throughout the day, vaginal discharge. When I say 'fairly' heavy, it's enough for me to need a panty liner (if I don't want to keep changing my underwear that is!)
What had me worried is that it is new, and it's really watery in consistency, odorless. I've had a persistent UTI over the past few weeks, and am now on my third course of antibiotics. Then just on thurs a vaginal swab came back positive for ureaplasma (which is one of those hideous bugs that can cause rupturing of the membranes.) I'm on erythromycin for that.
I went to my OB who did a test (swab) to see if it was amnio fluid I was leaking. It came back negative - thank God! But still this discharge has me a little nervous. Even though the test was neg I can't help but worry if and until this darned leakage stops.
Hey Beka. Don't worry about it, it is completely normal! A nuisance yes, but it's just another of the joys we have to put up with LOL. It varies from woman to woman as to how bad it is and even at what stage of pg she will get it. I found that with my first pg I didn't get it until nearly the 3rd trimester, but with subsquent pg's I get it a lot earlier. The only way to combat it is to wear panty liners and make sure you wear cotton knickers too - synthetic fibres don't let the area 'breathe' as well as cotton.
If at any stage it does start to become unpleasant in odour or changes colour, go and see your Dr.
Yes I have had it right through my second trimester so far, it's so annoying! Even after I've been to the toiley and wiped and walk away, about 20 mins later I feel wet again....so annoying but just one of those things. Try not to worry, it's a common thing.
I remember when I was about your stage, I also had lots of "vaginal discharge"... it actually is cervical mucus. Althrough our pregnancy, we will get this kind of discharge, some more, some less. I felt wet all the time until I reached my third trimester. As long as the discharge is not foul smelling and clear consistency... you don't have to worry about it. Just invest in panty liners until everything clears up.
Thanks everyone! I can't tell you how much better I feel about this now.
I had no idea it was so common. I don't recall having anything like this with my first baby, and then when I got the positive test result for ureaplasma, I got really worried.
