Question The heartburn has started again

    Hi
This is my second pregnancy and the heartburn and returned. Just wondering if there is anything that u can take for heartburn when your pregnant? I lived through it last time however I couldnt go out anywhere because I was really sick with it all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, I know exactly what you're talking about.
Some people swear by drinking a glass of milk.
Or try diluting the acid by drinking water.
    Have regular, small meals.
You can take Rennie or Tums tablets which really work for me.
If it still is unbearable, talk to your doctor. There are other things you can take, but I wouldn't do it without a docs recommendation.
    I hope that helps.

Mylanta is supposed to be okay, because it has low sodium content (that's what my pharmacist told me). I've been using the double strength liquid stuff on my really bad days & whilst it hasn't been a miracle improvement, it does seem to help. & Milk, which is good for your calcium as well as the indigestion.

oh, and some people recommend ice cream. It coats your oesophagus just like milk does but has an added cooling (and taste) benefit. And it's got Calcium, don't forget! Hey, any reason to eat ice cream will do!

I used Mylanta tablets for my heartburn and they worked quite well. Milk was also good for it when it wasnt really bad.

I used Tums the other day...and they were good! I think you can only use these from 2nd trimester onwards...

The other thing (which I haven't tried yet...but plan to) is fruit tingles...I'm not sure how they help exactly...but they are supposed to.

I've also heard not to drink whilst eating...to have a glass of milk before you go to bed...to cut out spicy foods...not laying down straight away after you eat...eating smaller (but more frequent meals) so your tummy doesn't fill up too much...

    Good luck!

Zantac was the only thing that helped me but definitely start by taking the other things recommended above first and see how you go!! I started with all that and then got desperate and my OB has assured me that Zantac is completely fine - you'll just need to mention it to your OB. I'm now taking a Zantac every morning and night - the great thing is that one tablet lasts for 12 hours, so it's an all day remedy and then you don't have to worry about it anymore!! Well, unless you're unlucky like me and start getting it even worse towards the end. Even the Zantac don't work on their own now and I have to chew Rennies and Quickeze ASWELL!!! At first, I was nervous about taking the Zantac but in the end, my OB kept telling me to stop being so stupid and just take the tablets, they're completely safe!!

I also keep Fruit Tingles in my bag at all times, they actually do help!!!

Hope it eases for you soon - it's been the worst thing that I've had to deal with this pg!!
