    Unhappy HELP...small BPD????

I had my 20 week ultrasound the other week and they said that the diameter of my babies head was out by almost 2 weeks. When I told my OB he didnt seem too concerned and explained that the babies head was probably squashed and that was causing it to measure smaller. The overall circumference was fine and was the right measurement for his dates.

I had another voluntary scan today for my local Institute of Ultrasound and they said the BPD was still out by almost 2 weeks.

I just want to know if anyone has had or heard of this before and what it means??? I am so worried that something is wrong with my baby. I cant remember the exact name for it but it started with a D....doliocephalic head shape? something like that.

    Hi Mummabear,
Sounds like everything is fine. As long as the circumference is ok. The BPD and all other measurements are an average, but we are all born slightly different, some of us with more oval skulls than round. If your OB is not at all concerned, then you prob. shouldn't worry too much either!
My girlfriend was told her baby had a more oval shaped head and a little chin, and that perhaps he would need surgery after birth to correct his jaw, what they didn't see was that her DH has exactly the same shaped face, slightly elongated with a small overbite! As it turns out bub was perfect, had a head and face shaped just like his father!
Try not to worry too much or think about it all the time. Easier said than done though, but it really sounds like everything will be fine. :hugs: Hope you're feeling better.

I was the oposite. I was told my two had HUGE heads for their dates, they were slightly oblong also, but I was told not to worry, ALL babies and humans are different. recently when my youngest was in hosp for epilepsy (nothing to do with head circ but they measure anyway) Dr came back three times to re-check her head circ. He thought he'd measured wrong, then he looked at my DH and measured HIS head and said "Ah hah!" and walked off with a smile. The circ was ok so bub should be fine honey! The brain still has enough room to grow and develop normally as long as the circ is ok. *hugs* I know it's stressful if you find something not quite right, but there is such a wide range of variances in all pgcy's and humans that what they call "Normal" only covers a small percentage. I'm sure bub will be fine....
