    Unhappy High BP

    Hi again ladies,

I went to my GP yesterday for a general check up. He did all the norm... measured me, took my BP, weighed me etc. I had a quick glance at the PB monitor in passing, he asked me a few questions about work and life (all of that stuff) but I'm such a chatter box I never asked why all the questions. He then wanted to give me a urine test for Protein to test for pre eclampcia (not too sure on spelling). I mensioned to him my mother had suffered from that when she was pg with my brothers (twins) as well as toxima. Once again I never thought anything of it all when he was asking me how old she was at the time and how far she was. I had gone to the toilet just before going to the Dr so couldn't do the test (I was empty). As I was leaving he told me to take it easy and to come straight back with any problems. (From past experience he know when it comes to baby I do stress out that I maybe be doing the wrong thing or something is wrong. I think most to-be mums are the same)
It wasn't until I came home, rang mum and told her how everything went (as I do every time), told her my PB was 153/70. She said 153 was a bit on the high side and to take it a bit easy as Dr said. After looking at past PB's of mine being around 115/60 - 118/60 I really started to freak out.
Although I know it's not overly high I am still REALLY worried about ending up in hospital for a prolonged period of time or even worse, baby getting distressed or premature birth.

Has anyone else had this??? I am going overboard (as I usually am)???

I know it is a long story to make a simple point but you had to know all the facts. I do appologise!!!

I know how you feel! At my last appt my bp was up - generally around 110/70, it was 130/80. My ob wasn't too concerned when I asked about it but I'm really anxious about my next appt and hoping it's come down again.

My mum also had pre-eclampsia/toxemia and my sister was born 7 weeks premmie as mum had to be induced. So it's kinda always in the back of my mind.

If I'm not stressing about my bp these days I'm stressing about my gestational diabetes test!

I had the same problem.. the fist visit to my OB it was so hi she didn't tell me! she just said don't worry about it, and that she never takes the PB from first visit seriously cause she know that we stress! and yes i was so worried and stressed i could only imagine what it was!!
Yesterday i had another OB appointment and before i went i could feel myself getting nervous again... thinking "i hope everything is ok" etc. and i tried to ncalm myself down cause i KNEW it would be up again! So LOTS of deep breaths later...she took it and by my standards it was still a little high 130/70 i thought GREAT! usually i'm 118-122/64 and she said it was ok and just to relax and try not to worry about things!

If you are worried, if you don't know anyone with a BP machine, go to your local pharmacy and ask them to measure it for you.. just so you know where you are at. And pick a day when you don't feel so anxious!

It is amazing what anxiety can do!

Thats what I have to do nearly every time I get my BP done, after my first visit with my first pg I had to lay down in a dark room for 20mins to calm and relax then they took it before I got up....I think I have white coat syndrome and it could also have something to do with the lenght of time they make you wait before they see you! I had my DS 6 days over and never got any signs of pre eclampsia. Good luck with the next appointment I'm sure you'll be fine. One of my friends ended up with pre eclampsia and had to be induced 2 wks early, but she was working 5 days 12hrs pd in quite a stressfull job, buying a house and moving. My other friend was boarded line for it and just rested and relaxed when ever she could and it never got any worse and went into labour naturally.

Take your dr's advise and rest, relax and try not to stress. I've suffered from high BP throughout my pregnancy, BP is normally around 130/70. I had stressful week when I was 35 weeks and BP spiked up to 160/100, I was admitted and had lots of tests done. In the end, everything was OK, no PE. Last BP check was 150/80. My BP is high, but I have been told that they are not going to induce unless something really unusual happens, I have just been told that I need to go straight to hospital if I get an signs of PE.

So try and rest and relax as much as you can and definitely dont stress!! Cause whatever happens in the end, will happen.

I started to calm down a bit yesterday and I'm feeling pretty good today. DH's nan is staying with us at the moment and has a monitor so she is going to check again for me.

    Thank you for your advise.
