I have a cold....is it ok to take...

Nature's Own Triple Strength Garlic + C Horseradish Fenugreek and Marshmallow tablets? I swear by them but have had no need to take them while pregnant. They are herbal....ugggh. I feel like poo. Am about to have a couple of Panadol.

I just found this little snippet about Fenugreek during pregnancy:

Warning: Because of its hormone like action, fenugreek may stimulate the uterus, so it should not be taken early in the pregnancy.
It says "early in the pregnancy" but I'd still give it a miss.

    Hope it passes quickly!

Have some lemsip, I asked if it was ok to take and the midwives told me yes. It helped so much when i had a cold in my 2nd trimester and even when I had the flu quite bad just a few weeks ago.

    Feel better soon!

Horseradish is also contraindicated in pregnancy. Unfortunately with a cold you just need to ride it out. Good old fashioned honey and lemon juice warms the soul and soothes some.
I hope you get better soon...

Lucy - Polarmine is fine to take, it's an anti inflammitory. Cailin told me about it and i checked with my Dr and Pharmasist, they said it was fine to take and was class A. Helped me out heaps let me tell you Hope you feel better soon.

O and if your gonna take the lemsip tea's, your only allowed the original not the max.

I take polaramine sometimes for my sinuses and it makes you drowsy, but although its safe to take during pregnancy apparently it's not safe during the 3rd trimester - something about the baby having withdrawals from it! But otherwise lemsip is my new best friend... love it

Why does everyone love lemsip? It does nothing for me... and all it's got in it is paracetamol! Guess i like the harder stuff...

LOL - I'm the same Catherine! It's not even a nice flavour! Much rather make my own honey & lemon drink and pop some panadol

MrsR - I do recall a naturopath at a health store saying you really should steer clear of herbal remedies when pg. This wasn't a proper consultation with her, but just a snippet of info that I remember hearing her say! heh. So I don't take garlic/horseradish etc in tablet form. You could always whip up a really garlicky meal - or even like a friend of mine does.. swallow some garlic like tablets! (she stinks when she does it tho LOL)

You'll all be pleased to know that they haven't passed my lips. I've been downing bottles of water with lots of lemon juice in them, using nasal spray and am now having some nice hot Thai food and that's made me feel a whole lot better!

Catherine, I can relate....give me the hard stuff any day!!!

Lucy - So glad to hear you have some relief... even if it is only temporary!

Liz - i'd rather make my own lemon and honey drink too and just pop a few panadol... Lempsip makes me gag *pokes finger down throat*
