    Low placenta at 14 weeks

I had my ob appointment this morning and when she did a quick scan of Peanut she mentioned that I should start to feel movements very soon as I have a low placenta. At the time I was excited by this, but when I was driving home, other thoughts came into my head about the dangers of low placentas?

Do they normally move as you grow? I'm guessing if there were any concerns she would have said something, but I was just curious

In most cases they do move, my placenta is low & so far it's meant I've had to have a few more scans than most to see if it's shifted yet. Depending on position & if it doesn't move it may mean a c-sec....but your OB will check & discuss this with you if an issue. I have another scan in 2weeks & I've got my fingers crossed my has shifted nicely.

Kellie, I'm sure she would have said something if it was a problem. I'm also pretty sure that they move as you grow too..... How exciting that you'll get to feel the movements soon!!! WOW that 14 weeks has gone very quickly!!! xoxo You feeling better now?

At this stage of pregnancy its hard for them to say if there is going to be a problem. Its only really a problem after 32 weeks, where if your placenta is too low it could cause birthing complications.
A lot of women will have low placentas, or placenta praevia early on in pregnancy, which usually requires a follow up ultrasound at 32 weeks to check if its moved. In most cases it moves with the growth of your uterus.
They will probably check it again officially at the 19 week ultrasound, and tell you more about it then and direct you as to what happens next.

But right now its not an issue at all.

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

My placenta was low lying with DD at the 12wk scan but by the time I had the 20wk scan it had shifted nicely. Most of the time they do move, so dont worry too much at this stage.

My placenta was low at the 12 week scan as well, so they made sure they checked it at the 20 week scan and it hadn't moved up much, still low (1.5cm from os). It meant that I had to have a couple more scans in the third trimester. Had one at 32 weeks and it hadn't moved much at all. Therefore I had to have a c/s (although I did go into labour spontaneously so my c/s was then classed as emergency).

I just found out at my 20 week scan I have this, it's 3cm from my cervix 'on the border' as the Ultrasound lady called it. And yes like what everyone has said it 'should' move up as the uterus grows so another scan at 32 weeks to check. I'm not to fussed if it moves or not I don't mind either way of birthing. Just gonna go with it

i too had low lying placenta at the 12 week scan. at the 20 week it had moved just enough to not be a problem, but they did a follow up scan towards the end and it was all good. they told me that it is common and normally they do shift into position.
