    Maternity Clothes

So far I haven't had to get any new clothes, I'm still wearing all my "normal" work clothes, and my bump is only just starting to make itself known! Have noticed some of my pants are getting a bit tight, and the skirts I do wear I can only get the zip up halfway now, so I'm thinking it's about time I need to get some clothes I'm going to fit into!

Have a bit of a dilemma though...I bought a top on Ebay, it arrived today, tagged a size 10 and it is quite large...don't think it is ever going to fit me, normally I'm a size 8/small size 10 in tops, and size 10 in pants. Not sure how much bigger I'm going to get, as I said my bump is still only little now and I'm 5 and a half months along! Should I just splash out and buy some size 10 maternity clothes, will only need a few pairs of pants/skirts to get me through and maybe a couple more tops, but not too keen on buying them from ebay now in case they don't fit... Or do you think I'd be ok just going up a size and buying some size 12 pants/skirts...is that essentially the same thing, or would it just not work? Don't have that much money to spare on buying clothes for me either, although it's office clothes I'm more concerned about than "house" clothes.
I hate clothes shopping too which doesn't help! LOL

For pants & skirts either get maternity stuff or things with drawstring or elastic waist - sounds daggy I know but you will need them. Stretchy fabric skirts are good too. I wore many of my skirts right through as they were stretchy ones & I just wore them under my bump.

At the stage you are at it's common for you to fit in your normal clothes but you are only just entering the stage where the real growth starts so tailored clothes wont fit for long.

You can get some great cheap maternity clothes from both Big W & Kmart - at least you could when I was pregnant last year.

I wouldn't buy maternity stuff off ebay or anywhere online as I found that the sizing in maternity stuff varied greatly. Much better to try stuff on. Most of the tops I bought during the pregnancy weren't maternity ones but they were just ones that draped well over the belly or were super stretchy.

Maternity tops are good because they are usually longer at the front to cover your bump as it gets larger. Buying a larger size in regular clothes works for some people but if you get a big bump it wont. You need the extra room in the front that the maternity tops have.

I got a pants extender (from target) which gives more room in "normal" pants that have a front fly / button and just wore a belly band over the top of my entire belly & pants - and then just stretchy tshirts.

i got belly bands off ebay for about $7 each, they have been a lifesaver as my tops get shorter...my belly only started really popping out at about 27-28 weeks. the ebay store is called '4 mums tums' i think...
and kmart has a range called bub2b which has nice maternity clothes, plain black skirts/pants etc, get some of these and a white or black belly band (think bub2b makes the bands too) and a cotton/stretchy top... GL

I'm the same, its really only office clothes I needed to get some alternatives for. I bought a few pairs of pants (3/4 and full length) that roll down at the waist from target in basic colours. They're fantastic. My problem was buying up a size in pants with a fly etc meant that they were huge on me everywhere else as I haven't put weight on through bum/thighs/ hips etc. They will get me through the whole pregnancy. I had a lot of longer style tops with room in them anyway so most things will fit all the way through.
You don't need to spend a fortune to get a few basics that will get you through. LIke some of the other girls have said, the chain stores have very reasonably priced maternity stuff which is still good quality.
    Good luck

Had a look in Big W & Kmart yesterday...nothing...got a couple of tops from Big W, but they are just 'normal' tops which will stretch to accomodate a bump! Pants are really what I need and both stores just had jeans or trackpants, Big W had pants that could be used as office wear, but they started from size 14! Going to Target today, so hopefully they have something, otherwise I'll just take my chances on Ebay! Lol. SUrely it can't be that hard to find a skirt and a couple of pairs of pants in a "city" as big as Wagga!

I have picked up some great maternity buys so far.. I got myself a pair of cargos (I live in them), and demin shorts, and a few bonds maternity t-shirts... pretty much most things I have brought have been on sale.

I live in dresses for work, as I find anything with a waist band far to uncomfy sitting all day. Most of the dresses I have a normal dresses just up a size, but I did manage to pick up a black 'Ripe' maternity dress at Myer for $25.00, reduced from $99.00!

Oh I did get a great skirt from K-mart, just from regular ladies section, which has a fold down waist band, it a really strechy fabric.. its been fantasic too.

All of my maternity pants are from kmart. But someone i brought them 2 yrs agao when i was preg the first time. A girl at work said she couldn't find much there the other day either.

I only have three maternity bottoms. Black and taupe pants and a black skirt. I also have one stretchy skirt from normal clothes and i do have a maternity dress but i am not big enough for that yet. I really popped this week so some of my normal pants are starting to get too tight and some i ditched all ready casue they cut across the bladder.

I found that i bought things too big too thinking i would get huge. I only have 3 tent tops for the final few weeks of preg but again i haven't pulled those out yet. (I am 23wks now)

If you buy up a size in normal clothes now you will also be able to wear them after baby before all the weight comes off. I had to buy some new work stuff when i returned cause i hadn't lost all my tummy when i returned 6mths later. A few weeks of working and not grazing all day saw those clothes swim on me so i'll start wearing those soon as i grow out of my normal clothes.

Don't buy up a size in maternity, i find my maternity clothes in my size are bigger than the next normal size up. A mistake i made when ordering tops of the net as my breastfeeding tops are all too big for me, in particluar since they are designed with an in built bra.
