opinions about babys sex on ultrasound

Hi,This is our first baby so we arent really fussy and its healthy which is the main thing but now weve been told we would like to know, we went for our 18 week scan yesterday and we wanted to know the sex anyway, what im confused about is,the lady told us it was a girl so i was interested to see why so i asked and all she said was,she showed me on the screen beneath the legs underneath and said see here, theres nothing there so i would say a girl.(obviously meaning she couldnt see a penis)I just wandered what the chances are of our baby actually being a girl because my sister in law was told definetly because they could see the labida or some 3 lines? But my ultrasound lady never said that and also another friend of mine told me they told her they could see the ovaries. So im just wandering how reliable is it just that she couldnt see a penis?Would it be there by 18 weeks and could she have missed it?has anyone else had this?I would love any opinions thanks heaps!!

    Got any pics?

Basically most do say no penis means its a girl. But it shouldn't be the only thing they are looking for. Yes you can see the 3 lines that show the vagina. There is mre to it then simply no penis = girl.

But ther eis alsoa good chance she could see those 3 lines just didn't think it was important to go in depth about it. KWIM?

Don't start buying pink yet..... my eldest son was a "girl" up until our 35 wk scan! They were sure he was a girl at 3 different ultrasounds. Unfortunatly I did buy pink stuff including a pram! Wait a bit longer before you are convinced!

I would defiantly wait too, I have a friend who was told it was a girl, ( which she desprately wanted after 3 boys) only to find out when she delivered the baby that is was another boy!. Mayb wait and see when you have another scan ( im not sure when that would be or mayb you could ask for another one). If you do get one and they still think it is a girl to ask for more evedince kwim?
    hope the pregnancy goes well

Thanks for the opinions,im trying to put a picture on here, one picture it looks like a girl but the other there looks to me theres something there but then i keep thinking,if she didnt honestly think it was a girl why didnt she just say i cant tell??So for her to say it makes me think shes right im just confused only because one picture really looks like a penis, then again i suppose she took the picture and she didnt say it was?????

From what I was told by professionals when I was pregnant last year was that it also depends on where you go and what machine is being used
