    Osteopaths/Chriopractors

    Hi,

My neck and lower back are playing up as I'm sure most people's are , however I'm wondering am I able to see an osteopath during my pregnancy or am I better off seeing a Chiropractor?

    Thanks.

i see a chiro regularly - but he works in conjunction with a myotherapist, and also practices physio, accupuncture etc, so he calls in whatever skills are needed at the time. i think your best suggestion is definitely to see SOMEONE - and when you ring to enquire, ask how often they work with pregnant women.

i've been seeing my chiro for 13 years, and he has adjusted treatment for me depending on where we're at (ivf treatment, pg etc) so i know he's the right one for me, and would recommend him to anyone - and usually do! not a lot of people out here to recommend him to though

It is a bit of a minefield trying to work out what is best for you when you are seeking out new therapists. Personally I am a fan of Osteos, their approach and philosophy suits me a lot more.

The best thing to do is try to find someone who comes recommended by someone else you can trust. Failing that, make a call to a therapist and have a chat to them about them, their approach and their treatments to see if it suits you and you feel comfortable with them. If they don't have the time to chat or to call you back at another time, I think that is pretty telling!

    I have been seeing a osteo since I was 6wks, I am now 23wks.

I personally prefer a osteo and my osteo has also done studies with pregnant women and babies so I am 100% comfortable with her.

If you are not sure, maybe see a osteo then if you are not happy try a chiro or vice versa to work out what works best for you.

    Good Luck!

I`ve been going to my Chiropractor for a year on a regular basis (every 2 weeks) but we got busy from January and I didn`t see him again until Monday when my back was so bad I was nearly in tears with it, I felt relief straight away.

I`ve also seen an osteopath about 18 months ago, he made things 100 times worse and I never went back. My chiropractor works on babies from newborn (his youngest client being 20 minutes old) to adults, we all see him as a family and the baby will be seeing him also.

I also didn`t know until Monday that chiropractors can turn babies through gentle adjustment, my chiro is turning a ladies bub atm, she`s 39 weeks and apparently it`s working.

If your looking for a chiro/osteopath make sure they have worked on pregnant women before.

I am currently seeing a chiro for my dodgy pelvis. She is a lot like what BG has described, skilled in more than one field and she's fantastic. She has promised to support me throughout this pregnancy which is awesome.

I haven't had dealings with osteos but personally, I have had really good treatment from my chiro who fixed my sore neck and back. I think it is important to go to someone you are confident will provide appropriate treatment and is skilled with preganant women.

    Good luck.

I'm seeing a wonderful osteopath who specialises in pregnancy and post natal care - she'll follow me through my pregnancy, post natal and will also follow up my baby too when he/she is born.
I have absolute confidence in her - i'm very strong as I do lots of pilates but there are so many changes to the body during pregnancy that she can help with - and they can also do a lot to help optimise your spine, pelvis, hips for birth.
Good luck. Ring around, find someone with this specialty and be sure you are comfortable with them.

    Chiropractor

I have seen a Chiro for the last 6yrs approx, for neck problems.

I had chiro throughout my first pregnancy and believed it really helped with labour/birth. (opened up pelvis to function correctly etc) and it SURE helped with the pregnancy back pains etc.

This pregnancy (currently 20wks) I have started seeing a chiropractor due to my neck problems flairing up and so far so good.

Although having seen chiro's for so many years and the problem not being rectified I am going to look into an Osteo or Massage to see if they work at fixing the problem any better.

    Hi,

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. Thanks to Dee and her mum I went to a wonderful Chiro this morning. She tells me my pelvis is out of alignment and I have 4 spots on my back that are out of alighnment, so we're starting a treatment plan next week! YAY. She also tells me that the problems I'm having with wind and indigestion are related to one of the misalignments. So hopefully once that's better the wind will go away. Jeremy will be most pleased

    Thanks again girls
