    Please help im worried sick

    Hi all,

I had a ultrasound today, which was very stressful for meas the sonographer wouldnt tell me anything and was very rude and it has had me very concrened all afternoon. I have not long opened my results and whilst everything seems to be perfectly normal it has noted that i have a Two Vessel Cord, can anyone please tell me exactly what this means and if it is something i should be worried about ? I have done a very breif google and it says buba can often has other structual defects that cannot be seen on a scan ....now i'm worried even more, what if my baby isn't healthy? What if something goes wrong? What can i do ?

Please anyone who has any information to give me would be greatly appreciate, thanks in advance x

Is there any way that you can ring your Dr/ Ob to see if they will talk to you?

I have no idea what the two vessel cord means, sorry.

Just wanted to offer some support.

there are a few threads on single umbilical artery. it is something that is more common than it seems, and more often than not results in NO problems for the baby. there are usually more scans later in the pregnancy to check fetal development, but please don't panic. i know a number of ladies with SUA bubbas who are all perfectly healthy now.

Westy, Sam was a SUA bub. He arrived early, for no obvious reason, as did a friend's baby who was also a SUA bub. Both arrived at 36 weeks and have no issues resulting out of their prematurity.

While SUA can lead to low birthweight and prematurity - it is by no means a given that it will happen. I've heard of just as many SUA bubs going post-dates.

SUA can also indicate cardiac and kidney defects as well as chromosomal disorders - the majority of which would have already been ruled out in either the 12 week or 20 week scans (when the SUA was detected).

You will likely have a few extra scans to check on growth and to have a closer look at the heart when bubs is bigger. Ours happened at 24 and 32 weeks. When Sam was born we were also sent for a routine kidney scan as a result of the SUA. I'm told that all these things are routine and very rarely pick up problems, but they do them just to be sure.

I hope this helps put your mind at ease a little.
