    Sleeping positions - 20 weeks

Hello I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby and due to stilll having a relatively small bump can still sleep on my front very comfortably. Does anyone know if it is safe for the baby for me to still be sleeping on my front or whether I should be starting to force myself to sleep on my side??

    Thanks
    Georgina

    Hi Georgina,
I selpt on belly up until about 19 weeks. It was still quite comfy, but knew it wouldn't last and baby would kick a lot so figured it was getting somewhat squashed! At least if you were to start forcing yourself to lay on your side you'll get use to it before your woken up in the middle of the night all uncomfortable. I'm not too sure how safe it is at all, didn't hurt my bub, but I did make sure I didn't let it go on for too long.
    Hope this helps.

i am pretty sure it is fine while you are still comfy.
if you do want to try to sleep on your side i found a full length body pillow helped or a pillow b/n your legs. and later on try to make it your left hand side as this helps with baby positioning!
i reckon if you are getting a good night's sleep - it is good for both of you!

yeah I'm still getting really good night sleeps on my front, so as long as its not damaging to the baby, think I might stick it out as long as I can. I'm sure it won't be long before I'm having to change positions!

I got a body pillow on Thursday and can I just say, it's very comfy, but when you want to change sides, it's a pain in the tukkus. I ended up getting tangled in the covers and uncovering DH....it was rather amusing.

I'm a tummy sleeper too, and I feel Ramlet putting up a protest when I get on my tummy now.

I've always slept on my tummy to and am finding it hard to stick to my side. I asked my Ob about it and he said it was fine as long as i'm comfortable - he assured me bubs would let me know when i had to start sleeping on my side, i'm trying to start now though so i can get used to it.

MrsR - LOL at your post i've been using the body pillow too and have had the same problem when rolling over, DH hates it! I've found if i have the pillow tucked between my legs and have it roll with me it's much easier!

I'm a tummy sleeper up until about 18 weeks... that's because my bub's waking me up. Since then, I bought a pillow to help with sleeping on the side. Until now, I can still sleep on my back without any problems. I have asked my Ob regarding safety issues about sleeping positions... She basically replied saying that as long as I am not experiencing pain from my baby's kicks, that means the baby is doing ok. Hope this helps!
