This morning after i vomited (as per the routine for the past 2 months) i went to the loo (wee) and when i wiped there was a streak of bright red blood. I was really scared so we called my Ob's clinic and spoke to a midwife. She said to rest and take it easy, not to go anywhere if possible and avoid lifting. Also to call her back if there was any further bleeding. I had nothing for the rest of the morning but i just went to the loo to use my bowels and after i wiped there was again a few small spots of bright red blood. i'm so terrified its the start of something terrible.
I didn't have a single spot of bleeding last pregnancy.
Anyone know what this could be????? I'm 14 weeks.
This has happened to me as well, more in the first trimester than now but each time it is a terrifying feeling.
For me it is just something that happens when I bend down too much or lift anything heavy. My scans come back normal each time, bubs is growing and moving lots so I have been told to not stress about it (hard to do!) and not do anything that triggers it.
You have done the right thing by speaking to your midwife, just follow their advice and go and see your ob if it gets worse.
It's possible that because the blood vessels in the uterus and cervix are bigger, the walls are thinner and when you vomitted and strained a little to do number 2's that one of them bled a little. I'd call the Ob again and insist on getting checked, but it's entirely possible it's a vessel outside the uterus and therefore will not affect bubs in any way. But try not to do anything strenuous and maybe start having more fiber and water so you don't have to push much to do number 2's. I have my fingers crossed for you honey. Get checked if only to put your mind at rest! Stress is NOT good during pgcy! *hugs*
HI LG, not sure if this will help or not but ill tell you what happened to me last week when I was 12 weeks... I woke up, and when I went to the toilet noticed the smallest amount of brown blood. Went for my first trimester screen the next day and it was all ok. Turned out I had a bleed in/on the placenta which is pretty common. The ultrasound lady (not sure what they are called) described it is 'abnormally normal' and it didn't worry her. Not sure if that will help you, but thats my experience!
I am sure you will be fine, call the ob's clinic if your stressed though. XXX
Take it easy!
I have had that too, two separate occasions, but after a couple of wipes it stopped. It was after DTD though, i think because you have so much extra blood in your body and everything's much more sensitive than normal its more likely to happen.
It still scared the c@%p out of me....
I hope all is well now and you're still taking it easy...
LG hun I can only imagine what that must feel like. I have everything crossed for you and your little love, I would think that by still being ill it's a good sign that everything is continuing nicely (even though you're feeling yuck every morning).
Hi there,
I had a slight bleed, much like you described at 16 weeks.
I freaked, went straight to the GP, who didnt think it was a problem, but to calm me down, sent me straight for a scan.
All was good. Turns out that my placenta was just low lying, and this is what the blood was from.
Bleeding in pregnancy is VERY common, but still VERY scary!
If it continues, def get in to see someone.
Another thing, was it from the front, or the back when u wiped? As someone else mentioed, it quite posibly could have been from straining when tryin to pass a bowel movement.
Take it easy, rest, keep up your fluids, and keep an eye on it.
I had another slight bleed at 20 weeks, the same as the 16 week one.I was slightly worried, but I didnt stress too much as I had a good idea as to why it had happened.
M placenta has now moved up in my uterus and since the 20w bleed, I have been 'bleed free'.
Thanks everyone!
Well nothing else has happened since yesterday so i think thats a good sign, and i actually am pretty sure i felt bubs move last night (like telling me he/she was ok!). My OB was great yesterday, she even rang me in the afternoon to see how i was! So that kind of service and care is what we're paying for!! If i had've had any further bleeding i would've asked for a scan but i've been ok today. Still sick this morning (vomitting) and no bleeding like yesterday, and had a bowel movement and still ok - BTW squishee, thanks for the idea, but it was def bleeding from the 'front'.
I'm still under instructions to take it easy and to page my OB over the weekend if i do get any more bleeding. But im feeling more confident about it today.
Thanks again everyone xxxxxxx
Hi LG, Glad you are feeling better! It's scary isn't it? I had some spotting at 11 weeks, and a little yesterday - but the Dr is confident everything is ok & the scan I had at 11 weeks showed Bean was fine.
Hope you have a restful weekend!! BTW, this is a great reason for DH to hang out the washing, do the vacuuming & carry anything heavy (because you are not supposed to 'strain' for a week or so after a bleed).
I'm new here and this thread caught my eye. Last night I saw some light spotting on my knickers and freaked out! I'm 10 weeks pregnant and havn't had any spotting whatsoever so far. Actually my doctor is completely uninterested in being of any real help and has told me that i need to wait until 20 weeks to have a scan of any kind. How can i wait this long? Is it normal to wait this long to hear a heartbeat?
I checked again this morning and the spotting hasn't continued. Can anyone explain this mystery?
DarlingBudsOfMay, it's not uncommon for women to spot. I remember I spotted when I was about 8 weeks along. When I had an ultrasound, it showed that it was the bub's sac pressing on a small blood vessel thus caused the spotting. It isn't true that you have to wait until 20 weeks to have a scan. Depending on your Ob, when I spotted, my Ob wrote a requisition for me to have an ultrasound right away to make sure that I haven't lost my baby. I am 18 weeks tomorrow and already had 3 ultrasounds. Usually, many women get an ultrasound at week 12 (to see if they bub is close to the estimated gestational age), one around week 20 (to check for placenta and bub), and one in the last trimester. To me, it sounds like your Ob isn't too caring about his/her parents. Maybe you should consider finding yourself a new Ob or someone you could rely especially when you are experiencing some difficulties. Also, the bub's heartbeat could be heard by Doppler around week 10-12 at your doctor's office. Hope everything goes well for you & welcome to BB!
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better LG. I spotted several times in my pregnancy (about 4-5 times I think). I freaked out each and every time and my little bubba is now here with me. Spotting doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong. For peace of mind I used to get myself checked out by my GP with a doppler. The heart beat was also very reassuring. Best wishes to you.
Cath - i am sure everything is fine - it is very common to spot.
As for having a scan at 20w - make sure you go at 12 just to confirm dates and do measurements etc. Don't rely on that doc that told you otherwise - what a jerk
