Just wondering what the symptoms for a UTI are in pregnancy.
I just seem to have a belly ache and sore back just below the shoulder blades bott sure if this is related to a UTI. Could also be bowels and bad posture at work.
Think I'll have it checked out tomorrow anyway.
Anyway, what made you think you might have a UTI?
NEver had one before.
At 12 weeks I was getting lower abdomen cramping, and I also had a fever. I would increase your water intake, and make sure your drinking enough. Make sure you go and get tested as you should keep on top of these things, as they can wear you down fast.
Both of the things you've described could be normal PG aches and pains, but might also be signs of a UTI (BTW all the regular UTI symptoms are true as well - pain/burning on urination, frequency of urination, etc). So best thing is to pee in a cup and get it checked at your Drs - you won't know otherwise. Better to be safe than sorry as it can spread to a kidney infection pretty easily in PG.
THanks for the replies! I left a sample at the doctors this morning and there where no bacteria in there, but they did find some proteine. I have to call tomorrow morning to find out what the proteine means.
Boohoo, it turns out to be an uti after all.
Yuck I hate anti biotics.
So everyone be carefull coz I didn;t have much symptoms really, but luckily I found out really early. Now my symptoms are, sharp pains in the blatter, feeling the need to pee more often.
Before that, sore back (only a few times a day) and that was it really!
bbwish, I had mild UTI around 16 weeks. Drink cranberry juice as this will help to clean out your urinary tract. Water is good often to dilute your urine. Make sure you void when you have the urge so the bacteria won't have time to multiply. In the mean time, I hope you will well soon. Take care.
BBwish - UTI at any time not pleasant!!! I hope you are starting to feel a bit better. I agree cranberry juice is fantastic so have some of that - I had a UTI a few yrs back and I drank about a ltr a day of cranberry juice and this totally cleared it up with no other drugs... I have been having some cranberry juice each day in preg to prevent UTI too and so far so good!
UTI's are absolutely horrible. I had one a few years back and knew straight away something was wrong because I needed to pee all the time and it hurt.
But I ended up in emergency a couple of weeks ago with one, that I did not even know that I had. There was no excessive weeing or anything to indicate that was what it was. It started as aches and pains in the evening, then 40 degree temp, then vomitting. Next day felt a bit better, thought it was a just gastric flu. Went to bed that night and felt even worse. In the morning temp was nearly 41 degrees, rang nurse on call and they said go to hospital and it turns out to be a UTI that had infected my blood, poor babies heart rate was up to 190bpm and I was getting full on braxton hicks every ten minutes for eight hours due to my body being so stressed. Had to have iv fluids and antibiotics for six hours, then went home and did a course of antibiotics. NOw I am paranoid and every ache and pain I am off to the doc to do a urine test.
Nasty stuff ladies!! Definately be careful and always get checked out if you don't feel well during pregnancy!
Becmc, I hope you are feeling a lot better now, and that bubs is okay! Wishing you an uneventfull pregnancy, not long anymore!
I am now taking a course of antibiotics and taking 2 cranberry tablets a day (max dose) And I will continue to do so for the rest of my pregnancy.
I really thought the test would turn out negative, and at first it did, I was actually suprised that it came back positive the next morning.
My only worry now is that I sometimes have an ache in my back at the location of my kidneys, so I hope they're okay! Will find out mid-next week, as the gp sent a urine sample to the hospital for more testing, because I am pregnant. So that this is just a minor UTI and the rest of the 9 months will be uneventfull. But yeah I will keep close track on my health as this almost went unnoticed!
Just be careful about getting thrush too, pregnancy makes you more prone especially with the strong antibiotics they use for UTI's. My midwife suggested I take a course of probiotics after my antibiotics, which I did, and I think I had just started getting thrush and the probiotics seemed to get rid of it quickly.
