    Travelling in 2nd Trimester

    Hi everyone!
Hub and I have booked one week in Fiji.
I will be travelling in my 2nd trimester on the 28th Aug. I am 13 weeks now.
    My question is.....
Is it really ok to fly/travel?
What precautions should I take or what should I be careful of.
I have read up on the net but wanted to hear of actual life experiences if anyone has any.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

My OB says it's fine to travel in 2nd trimester as long as everything is going well and i'm back before 24 weeks! You should check with you Dr about any other specific precautions ie. injections, food etc

    hope this helps

    Hi Nell,
It is safe to travell inthe 2nd trimester. I know this cuz I went to England and Scotland in May of this year. I was 14 weeks pg at the time.
Its only your 3rd trimester you aren't meant to fly just in case you go into labour. But you'll be back way before then!!!

Have a great time in Fiji... I was there for my brother's wedding in Aug last year. We had a ball and had wanted to go back (as a group again) for their first anniversary this year, but I'll be in my 3rd trimester and can't go with them. It is a GORGEOUS place!!!

I flew when 25 wks pg with DS to the UK, returning when I was 30wks.
My Ob suggested I wear those support stockings to avoid DVT & to walk around as much as possible. I was fine.
Also, check with your airline as sometimes they require a medical cert depending how far along you are to confirm you are well.
Have a FAB time in Fiji!!!!

Most airlines will let you fly up to around 36 weeks, as long as you have a letter from your care provider stating you are well, and your due date.
It may be worth getting a letter just in case. Actually I would definately because if they are notice you are pregnant they can probably refuse to let you fly unless you can prove you are well.
I flew to Hawaii, ten hours there twelve back, at 26 weeks. It was fine.
You can buy the pressure stockings from chemists, they are expensive though, that help prevent DVT which can be more common in pregnanct women. And get up and walk around a bit at least once every two hours. And try to move your feet when you remember, do little circles with your ankles and things like that.
So yes it is okay to fly. Have a great time. You leave on my due date!!

Our family went to Vietnam while I was 22-26wks preg. Lots of flying and travelling around and I had no issues.

While you are overseas, just watch things like water (buy bottled water) and some foods, but if you are staying in a resort, I doubt that you would have any issues.

Oh, how I wish for a holiday. Have fun

Oh, and another thing, make sure you are covered for pregnancy issues by your travel insurance!!

Thanks so much! My mum already had some of tose stockings, but they are knee high's. I hope that is suitable as they are very expensive. I will get a letter just in case, would hate to get to the airport and have problems. Last time hub forgot video camera and we were leaving for 6 weeks in europe!
Becmc....I will be thinking of you! Take care x
