    Angry UTI warning

I just thought I would share this with anyone thinking they may have a UTI. A couple of weeks ago I went to the medical centre and told the Dr I had a bit of a funny feeling in my bladder. I've had UTI's before and i sort of felt like the beginning of one but without the weeing needles feeling and no blood in the urine. I told the Dr that it felt a little bit like someone was pinching my urinary tract (rather than my bladder and needing to go to the toilet with nothing coming out every 5 seconds).

The Dr said that the baby was sat on my urinary tract and that it was stopping me from fully emptying my bladder. She did urine tests and put me on to antibiotics (that are supposedly pregnancy safe).

I took my urine results to by Obs the other day and he was really annoyed. He said the urine results were better than okay and there was no reason that I should have been on antibiotics. I know some Dr's are quick to give out antibiotics but I thought that they would be a bit more cautious when considering pregnancy.

So just be careful and speak to your obs before taking anything.

I am sticking by the rule, after reading various things online (submitted by mothers) that unless you really really really need to take antibiotics or have injections (for whatever) -Don't. If you need to, get multiple opinions.

I even refuse to take a panadol even if I have a thumping head.

My doctor did the same thing... however in my case I was lucky he did as the antibiotics did nothing and I ended up in hospital for two days with a kidney infection triggered by the UTI which could have led to pre-term labour I am glad my Dr didnt wait for results... But i do understand why you are upset.... I guess there are two sides to every situation and I was on the other (I also didnt have burning or pain when urinating, no blood in urine etc etc)

Didn't your Dr check your urine??? How strange!
I would also be annoyed but they do take UTI's very seriously in preg as they can bring on early labour. I had a mild attack of one a few weeks ago and the hospital wanted to admit me for a week on IV AB's ( i insisted on going home as my DD had just had surgery and needed her mummy with her). They eventually agreed and allowed me to take oral AB's and within a week it was all gone.

I guess your Dr was playing it safe - but still should have had your urine tested!

    hey

some pg uti's have no symptoms and can go unnoticed until birth or tpl. I had a tpl with DD#1 and have been more aware of what my body is doing this time.
