What constitutes a shortened/shortening cervix at 19 weeks?

    Just wanting some reassurance/advice (lol).

At 12w3d my cervix was 3.55cm. Had my 19w1d scan toay and my cervix length measurement averaged 2.97cm. Bub was across, changed position a little bit so not a lot of unusual pressure on the cervix that would contribute. I had my eye on this measurement as I've had a lot of BHs for two weeks, they have been quite persistent, but the hospital don't take you on for management until 20 weeks, they just tell you to rest and hope for the best. I've started mild cramping at times with the BHs, nothing major, just enough to notice that some cramps happen at the same time as the BHs sometimes. So I was looking out for the measurement to see how much it had changed. Sonographer was poker face, told me to discuss the report with my dr, which I shall do when I see him/her (GP tomorrow to collect results and take to hospital Ob appointment on Thursday).

Is .42cm in 7 weeks a considerable change? I know the prefer a cervix length of >3cm up to around 32/34 weeks. From the wealth of BB experience, would 2.97cm still be 'ok' at 19w? Does it change a lot going from 'short' to 'long' to 'short' over time? Does it depend on how much physical exertion you've had in the last few days?

I think it's a 'be alert, not alarmed' thing. Depending on what you read (and I did a quick google) some will freak out and say that it is too short and you should be on bed rest and others seem to think that it's fine. What do you think about it all? It could just be the difference between a first and second pregnancy too kwim?

Mine is shorter then yours and im ok.

Remember it is a small measurement and it could easily be a bit bigger then the ultrasound said pending they got the exact same spot as last time

It is still ok, the cervix can change, and yes it depends where they measure from.. Did the radiographer say anything that indicated concern? Are you getting under the care of an OB or Middy? Maybe ask them what they think..

Not sure what I think, I was interested to see the change but the sonographer couldn't say if the change is normal or not. I'm mostly interested to know if they would look at the measurements being 'on the border' of what they consider to be the higher end of low, or if they take into account the first measurements as my 'normal' and look at it comparitively. I know I'll find out in time, I'm just an excessive worrier and professional Google-er.

blessed - I'm a public patient but being 'high risk' after having a c/s first time round I'm seeing my hospital Ob Thursday and I think all going well they alternate between me seeing the midwives or the Ob, depending on the situation.

Ob was happy with the length at my appointment today, said that it is lower end of normal but still normal/average length, so nothing has come out of it Said unless there is anything of concern comes up all is fine.
