    Bad gastro etc (sorry TMI)

I know this may gross us all out, but was wondering if you lovely ladies have suffered bad gastro and diahorrehea during the second trimester?

I am 14 1/2 weeks, and have had terrible gastro pains (like wind moving around in m bowels for most of the last 4 weeks. Most days i get agonising gas pains, and today am suffering diahorrea. im literally running to the toilet every ten minutes.

Is it all normal, or could it just be a bug??

Little worried as these gas pains are that bad sometimes, i literally have to hold my breath and breath through them to stop myself crying in pain.

I asked doc for rennie, and she said its not prescribed to pregnant women as it is bad and can cause defects in the baby.

She told me the only thing i could have for my intergestion (which i also get really bad) is mylanta or tums...and they just dont do anything

It's been going on for awhile, I think they should test further in case its giardia or something.

When i was preg with DD i got a sample bag of goodies from the midwives and in there was a sample pack of rennie .. ?
Surely they couldn't put it in the sample bag if we're not suppose to have it??

Not sure, but it was there, i never took it though, didn't need it, thank god!

I had terrible wind, wind pains and horrible bowel movements in the first trimester. I suffer from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) so I wasn't surprised at all especially as wind and bowel changes are very common in pregnancy.

I find a high fibre diet, plenty of water and a daily dose of Metemucil works wonders.

If you're still getting the runs frequently, I'd get it looked at just to rule out any tummy bugs.

    Hope you feel better soon

PS: Degas tablets from the supermarket (in the medicine area) are safe during pregnancy, are natural (peppermint oil) and really help reduce the wind pain. A word of warning, dogs like them - or so I found out!

I don't know if this is related or not, but I'm going thru something similar at the moment. Am taking my second day off work today and have had it bad since Friday. I'm the same as you - 15 weeks. I have mainly pain, but then have extreme nausea and gagging (no diahorrea thankfully). I went to the DR yesterday and got tested for a bladder infection, but the results could be as far away as FRIDAY. How rediculous. Will try to go back to work tomorrow as I hate taking time away, but feel I need to rest and look after myself right now. The pain I have is mainly central and lower down (under growing belly), and sometimes to the right. Could possibly be gas pains, not sure. I do feel like if I could just release wind I'd feel better, but can't (sorry if TMI). I've been having heartburn and DR said the nausea could be from that (I didn't have any M/S during first trimester at all!). I'm taking Gaviscon as recommended by OB and Chemist (liquid - can't handle the chalky tablets).

Hope you're feeling better soon. I'll let you know if I find out what my DR says and maybe it can help you too. I'd definitely take a trip to the DR tho' if it's been that long. If it was a regular tummy bug you'd think the worst of it would have passed by now. Look after yourself.
